  1. Dogs look like they enjoyed themselves and that's what counts. Atb
  2. Great vid mate, I'm gutted as iv had to retire my boy but hopefully I will get a pup in spring or maybe put him over a good bitch. Really karnt beet a whippet on rabbiting game and they have so much heart, punch well above there wait. Iooks a great time out mate. Atb
  3. About 30 years ago my brother and his mates all went camping at the old quarry, must have been about 20 young lads, lasses any how they all split up in groups to collect wood, water etc. Now one group found a ewe trapped in barbed wire and bleeding quite bad. Two went to farm why three stayed to try and free the sheep, by time farmer got there the sheep was free but was bleeding and he went crazy, blaming youths of all kinds of stuff, police were called and he wanted them arrested for interfering with his sheep, I know one lad ended up in court but got it dropped, with help from solicitors cal
  4. Nice looking bitch mate, my opinion you karnt beet a whippet bred lurcher on coneys, ferreting, lamping. My whippety dog is 3q whippet with a touch of saluki, bedlington. To look at him he looks like a big whippet but with a nice long back and better coat. Retired now but he took fox, muntjac, hare and best ferreting dog iv ever had, hopefully I will get a pup from him this year, looking to put him to a good bedlington bitch in spring. He was put over a couple of good whippets last year and pups are doing well, good luck mate I'm sure yous will do fine, I know you have snakes but what about th
  5. What owls can you hunt with, I know some can take fox, and would you advise to get a owl before a hawk to train.
  6. Good photo mate, catch is a catch no matter what mate, stoates and weasels have a good bite on them so it's good he got hold of head, years ago walking home from school we saw a cat come of worse trying to get a stoat, it was striking at cat and believe that cat couldn't wait to get away, for there size they pack a punch.
  7. I have never hunted with hawks, falcon of any kind but last few years I have watched a pair of sparrow hawks that nest on some of my ferreting permission, sat and watched them for hours, mostly they were taken small birds, one morning I watched one swooping at baby rabbits and to my surprise it took one. Do s hawks couple up for life or find new mate each year. Thinking about getting a camera on them if they nest this year. Atb
  8. Hi folks, I have seen a Harris hawk 3 times in two days while out with my whippets, the first time I thought it was a buzzard but getting closer I could see it was a large Harris, we were in some horse paddocks and he was sitting on a post. My whippet got within a couple of feet before he flew, I could see he had Jesse's on and he flew round me, I did try to whistle call him with my arm out using my wax coat as glove. He looked like he was going to come to hand but he flew past and away out of sight. So on with my walk, hour later we walked back same way, it was raining now and he was sittin
  9. The fella who gave me my eu did try working his and they was quick and would work but when it came to boxing up they would bite, and start sulking at entrance just out of hands reach, and a large polecat can feckin hurt, iv sat and watched the fella with tame mink on this site, I wouldn't like a bite from one. It's all about putting the time in when there young I suppose.
  10. You will find most pet dogs if given the chance to hunt with other dogs will take to it and have a great time as well, more folk should give the smooth teckel a go as no different from wire, other than coat. It looks a great day out mate and what a stunning place to work your dogs,
  11. Nice looking dog mate, I like a terrier to have a good coat.
  12. A fella who lives in a village near me as a part Wolf bitch, he used to live in Russia and his bitch is quater wolf, sled dog. He says she's OK with folk she knows but I wouldn't trust her. He says folk have took young cubs from wild and crossed them to various breeds to make them easyer to train. In my opinion who ever realesead the Wolf deserves to go to jail, this could have ended so much worse, public getting hurt and poor animal shot.
  13. Nice mate, when you was whistling the Fox my whippet woke up and his head was going side to side then back to sleep dreaming of hunting bunnies.
  14. It's a shame you can't get out anufe to keep them, as above mate I'd make sure you get a genuine person that's ferreting already or put it on the young hunters page and let it go to a youngster getting into the game, we all know how hard it can be getting finders nets etc when we first started "no locators when I started" at least that way you will know you leaving ferreting will help a new camer, it's a great offer mate and it's a shame you can't find time to work them anufe to justify keeping them atvb
  15. Eu ferrets have been around years and they are nearly black when born, they are wilder and not easy to work with, I was gifted a Eu kit who was the darkest pug iv ever seen in forty years, three times the size of albino kits at same age, she would hide when ever I fed them, she would wag her tail side to side like a rattle snake, and bite my hand any chance she got. They need much more work put into them to tame them. I gave mine to a fella who keeps them in very large mesh cages, with pools, bushes etc they looked about 20ft long, he's had dna done on his stock and I believe two pairs are pu
  16. A lot of folk slag Hancock and call him a puppy farmer, every one as there own opinion, if I wanted a collie x greyhound I would probably goto David, you know exactly what you're getting collie, g, hound nothing else and you only get out of pup what you put in.
  17. My whippet will eat most things but to much protein like chicken upsets his belly, so I try to give them tripe from pet shop and a dry biscuit mixed together, when ever my dogs are under the weather and not eating they always demolishe sardines, pilchards. What ever your pup as been eating make sure you get some and swap it to what suits your wallet. Good luck with your pup.
  18. Good on yer mate, it's good to see a youngster out hunting and getting shown how to fill the pot by his father, I like using my hob as he don't miss much, slower than Jill's but nothing is getting by him iv seen my big hob"big nose" drag coney out of Warren a few times. If you was closer your boy could have one of my Jill's. Atb
  19. Any pics of parents, nice pup mate hope you do well together.
  20. Need there fingers chopping of mate, hope you get your dogs back, stealing a pet is stealing a family member and these c..ts don't deserve to breathe the same air as us.
  21. A good friend of my father worked a 3q gsd x g, hound and she was one of the best all round dogs he'd ever seen. Back then a dog had to fill the pot and put shillings in pocket for beer money, my father worked a good line of bedyxgreyhounds taken fox for pelts, and all UK game to feed family of 8 kids. He never once said he'd like another kind of lurcher apart from the gsd he'd seen work. Any pics mate. Atb
  22. If I was hunting mainly woodland I'd get myself a bearded c x or a kelpie blooded lurcher. I run a whippet and a bedyxwhippet x Patterdale and we work small blocks of woodland and we have some great fun doing so, flushing muntjac, Fox and roe to the gun. I try and keep dogs within ten yards of me but this can be difficult in some woodland. I never use collars as they can get caught up. Whippets are made for speed but my boy knows he must use his nose when in woods and they do OK. Like iv said though I'd want a dog that can take knocks better if my land was mainly woodland.
  23. Nice looking pup mate. Hope yous do well.
