    Had another go at them today , it was lagging down when we started out at 4.30 am but eased before we actually started shooting . If I'm honest I think we were a day or so late getting at them as the maize was up about three inches and they never come in the numbers that were hitting it earlier in the week . Beneath a big dead oak with a few lofters and a couple of ff5's with young crows on it was a slow start , even slower when the first crow came right in and settled on a branch above me , poked the gun up ready to see it fall only for the firing pin to strike nothing ....forgot to load the

    Disgrace it's taken this long for justice to be seen to be done , pity the poor souls that went to there grave with no closure to there grief .. call me an old cynic but I've a feeling ill health and old age will come into the equation....

    Getting a few now Dave , I'm out Wednesday the keeper said two bits of cover crop are black with them , same bits we shot a week or so back . For him to ring and tell me they must be doing some serious damage ..

    Tried explaining to a couple a while back their cockapoo was in fact a mongrel , can't be a mongrel she said we paid £700 for it and as both the sire and dam were registered it must be a pedigree ...at this point wasting more time and breath seemed pointless ..

    I started discovering empty pea shells down there a few days ago so it looks like the wife has been munching her way through them and not sharing her bounty lol I discovered last year my wife doing the same thing but was in cahoots with the lab who was eating the shells , there was me thinking I needed to brush up on my gardening skills but in truth needed to update the security ...

    Gardening doesn't get much better than standing in the allotment eating sugar snap peas straight from the plant ...seems a waste of time cooking them ..

    I couldn't think of a more boring dog to own then a lab but he is very nice fair play in good condition too. The pointers are handy looking aswell. Depends what you need from a dog , I need one to track deer , pick up game pigeon crows etc ..when I did a lot of rough shooting I worked spaniels ..were does boring come into it ? Unless your looking at big fat labs that waddle about doing nothing but then the same can be said for any dog ..

    They don't seem to me to have a pattern, I normally just bunch them up in groups about twenty yards in front of the hide , which needs to fit in with the surroundings ..the worst thing I've found is to be popping up and down , either shoot them from a sitting position or shoot them standing up building your hide to suit ..they pick up on any movement so stay still and wait till they come in ..good luck with it ..

    Another ultra early start on some freshly cultivated areas that are going to be drilled with maize as cover crops . Things started fairly well with birds coming into the ff5's and a few lofters in the dead oak I was set up under , in fact the birds were trying to land in the branches which made for some early and fairly easy casualties . All progressed well until the tractor arrived to drill the maize which forced a breakfast break , hostilities resumed a couple of hours later on my patch but with the other bits being drilled during the morning the crows seemed more interested in following the
