  1. I didn't watch it, I can't these days as I find it all a bit sickening. I hate the breed information given, this dog will do this or that, my Mrs said the commentator said the Yorkie was still capable of dealing with rats... Or mice..!! It's that bollox that kills me when you see an over preened rat on the end of a lead..! Those big slab sided show greyhounds... I wonder how one of those poor feckers would do round a track or in the field? I betcha when the EBT's came up the fools still referred to 'em as 'The Gladiator of the Canine Race', they always do, in my ancient Observers books it say
  2. That pic reminds me of the first Spaniel/Terriers I knew of. A mate of mine, one of this cities finest hunting men, bred 'em, back in the 80's. We all thought he must be mad to put a Spaniel across his quality, hard-bitten, digging bitches but then we seen the outcome work and it was a revelation....
  3. Tomo's post is on the money for me, those early dogs, Laddie the accident etc... I do know that one of these famous coursing dogs was a bloody good fox killer (though others may have been?), anyway, thats the one i'd own.
  4. Think that all me and Cocker are trying to say is, that it is industrial super strength stuff and should be used as such, so if I was gonna use it i'd dilute the feck out of it. I've been to many a kennel where, thinking its what you 'should' do, lads disinfect the feck out of 'em with all sorts of strong products, when in reality, if the floors good and any mess is cleaned and hosed as soon as possible then the strong stuff is not needed, maybe for a big clean down every few months but thats it. Bleach is another product that I've seen much over used, lads pouring it neat all over the kenne
  5. Farrell, you and your brother stand clear. I got no interest in you today. Stand clear, you won't get hurt. Cock-a-doodle-doo!
  6. Do you mean, 'experienced this breed' as in Ridgeback, or the multitude of dogs in the mix in your title? If you mean cross bred lurcher with ten ton of bull blood then yes, I have seen a few out and was, at one time, after a pup out of one. That Ridgeback bitch from across the pond, was it the USA, if so I'd like to know more about her. I see Ridgebacks as houndy baying dogs, which were used to hold Lions at bay but thats at bay and not tackling them.
  7. There was a litter (maybe two) bred about 15 years back with Ridgeback in 'em. All the ones i knew made very good dogs, particularly on bigger gear BUT they had a fair % of bull in 'em too, so I could never be sure that the Ridgeback did add anything for the dog... Lets be dead honest here, if we all read an Observers book of dogs (showing my age!) from 20 years ago, apart from the 'Toy' breeds, every dog could be used as a worker BUT the reality is that they can't and, as Bird said, are simply show dogs with 99% of the work bred out of 'em. Yep, maybe in their native SA and in Oz there are so
  8. Whilst good kennel cleanliness in essential, I'd be using a product with a name like Odour Kill very sparingly.... I honestly believe that strong cleaning and disinfectant products are sometimes very overused in kennels and it can't be good for the dogs to be in constant contact.
  9. As I said on the first page, any of you noticed how much time you now have...?

  13. oh its wed night and the tellys shite stig. Yer, England are on...!!
  14. Think I last went about 5 years ago and didn't think much of it, looked then like it was going in the way of the later reports I've read, like a big car boot sale with a dog show in it... 20 years or so ago it had the International Terrier Matches (i've some pics somewhere!) the night before and the fair felt like a Mecca for working dogs, we always camped and loved it. I don't think I'll be going this year....
  15. This was on the One Show a few months back, pretty amazing sights around inner city housing estates. London, Glasgow, Manchester etc... Funny how Liverpool has almost nothing in the way of large wild mammals in the city but that is starting to change...
  16. Moll, IMO your best action shots to date, with those last shots you really get a 'feel' for the place.. Thanks for sharing...
  17. It does to me ,as I have never classed a Lurcher with guns ,but hey that's just me Me too...
  18. In the main threds like this are usually answered by people age 25+ and most think that the dearer a puppy the better its gonna get looked after... Complete tosh.... Thousands of kids out there with money to burn, easy come, easy go money. Money most folks on here wouldn't believe, they can pay whatever the asking price is and then get shut most weeks, when the next better and more expensive thing comes along. Usually sold to his rag arse mate, who ain't got as much dough as the first but wants to be all gangster like his mate and then he'll do the same thing again and so on and so forth.
  19. Great read and write up RAW, with good pics too... Keep it up mate.
  20. An old dear I once knew had a cracker draped over the back seat of her car. I could never work out what it was, so I asked... 'Curly Coated Retriever' was her answer...!
  21. Since I've moved out of the city, i've noticed more folk afraid of dogs and its made me keener than ever to walk the opposite way from folk out for a walk without a dog of their own and I've come to realise that by my own mistakes...!
  22. Dogs... Was bad when I was a kid, had to have weekly injections to ease it, as we had two dogs. It's still with me but now only if I touch my face after touching a dog and if I rub my eyes.. Oh lordy, all hell breaks loose..!!
  23. London is the greatest capital city in Europe and up there with any in the world... Me, I love the place, from its history to its madness and everything in between, good and bad. That's just the thing though, its our capital city, fecking huge and sometimes very overbearing... I would love to spend a summer there, full time, soaking that hustle and bustle right up and see everything... Then home again for Autumn and back to my countryside.
