  1. This may have been read by some somewhere else.... A difficult question but looking back I suppose a day where I was let down by a bloke I was doing a bit with and my dogs saving the day. We were supposed to be out with the terriers but a better offer for him seen me waiting for most of the morning at home. Aggrieved by the let down, I put my two half crosses, Tess & Buck in the back of the car and headed to a wood where we had taken a few foxes with the terriers earlier in the season. Part of it was a look to see what was there and part of it was because that’s where we were due to end
  2. The dog lacks confidence in its own ability. Though it can jump, i'll bet it has not been schooled to jump and therefor, when under pressure, takes what it thinks is the easy option. Back to the drawing board, start very small and increase week by week. Use wire, chicken is best, as it stretches easy and increase it bit by bit over the next few weeks. Have it jump all sorts of obstacles BUT don't over match it... Confidence is key! Always use a word when training (I use 'hup') so the dog knows when its jump time. Make sure the dog see's it as fun, so don't over match it and put pressu
  3. Are they good eatin? Location Please...
  4. My best memory of hunting was anything pre-ban!
  5. Meindl... Choose your type carefully.. Most popular is not always best....
  6. Cleanspade, your dead right.... But if the KC didn't exist then there would be no-one for breeders to register dogs to and form would always follow function..! Oh, that perfect world...
  7. Whippets on bunnys by day... Crackin!
  8. Take it off the thred and to pm if you want to carry on. Saclalin has asked the question, if you have dogs to offer him leave it at that. Its his choice and I do not want to lock the thred.
  9. Nice, strong workman-like type there Ginny, tell us more....?
  10. Very nice Riohog, love the handle material. Keep us posted with good pics.
  11. Totally agree HM, those dogs I had were very soft mouthed in their retrieve but could be hard as nails with their strike. I've never had a dog soft mouthed on hares, by the time and effort taken to catch 'em, a quick crunch would make the retrieve much easier for them. Had dogs that have brought some back live, well and loud but it was always dependent on effort. Mind you, in warm specks, that quick crunch could be a godsend on a noisy hare and gets the retrieve done a damn sight faster too!!
  12. I've never brought up a hard mouthed dog (on rabbits anyway!), I adopt the same tactics as Mushroom and even my half crosses carried bunnys back like they were made of glass.
  13. Stig, me and my mate bought two new chainsaws for roughly the same money, mines petrol, his electric.... His is shit..!!!
  14. At first I never though about a relation, I suppose I was lucky enough to say plenty to my 'ol man and him to me. So, who else.... Maybe Bert Gripton, James Arichigo or Frederick Rolf.
  15. Good post Tomo. Personally, I always try to advise folk to buy in, pups are a fecking nightmare and we all know there are far too many being bred..! Time spent sourcing the right pup can be just as rewarding as creating one, with a lot of the pressure off. That said, where would we be if no one bred out of good dogs, dogs worthy of forwarding their blood. Rew, take time to work out if a litter out of your bitch is what you really want and take time to select the right dog for her, dependent on what you want your 'new' dog to do. There are plenty of good dogs out there to use. It's your ca
  16. I'd have one of them from Navarone, or Scaramangers.
  17. Colin I've took the liberty of doing a bit of editing on your posts, I think they may have been done on a smart phone, I hope they now read right? Keep posting, its interesting stuff.
  18. Make sure the dog is injury free first, take it to a bone man, then try again, you'll make an informed decision after that.
  19. Bloody good post Neil and your right about lines being lost and KC registration 30 years ago. I think Plummer even mentioned it. So, some lines will go to the wall but then again, those ones have already gone and many, like yours, are still sound with people who will always put work first and foremost... Glass half full I recon...
  20. Good actor, damn shame.... The drugs 'really don't work'....!
  21. I dunno if its the one you were after mate but pd3 put kennel plans and pics up on here and they were the best i've seen.
  22. Yep, Dogs & Natives hit the nail on the head, bring 'em up on it. Simply choose which type of lurcher would suit your needs and get 'em out as puppys over the ground you want to hunt. I've always hunted woodland and dunes but with dogs that have known that terrain from puppys.
