  1. Border if you can afford one off the greedy b*****ds that breed them if not then get a nice russel off steady parents. Ferreting for me has never been the same since my old border died.
  2. Every now and again one proves to be fertile but the majority are infertile.
  3. I've got a 97k with an old custom thumbhole stock on and its really well balanced.
  4. A few lads on here recommended canisten when my dog had something similar, my vets were useless at diagnosis too.
  5. Some ferrets just don't like other ferrets, their solitary in the wild so its either instinct or their just cranky feckers who don't like company.
  6. Gnash any finch x canary is a mule and a finch x finch are hybrids. People breed them because (hopefully) the resulting mules will have hybrid vigour (hardier than both parents) and will sing more freely than the finch will but is capable of singing the finch song, a pure canary can't hit the notes of say a goldy for example. There probably are more reasons but that's the basic jist of it.

  8. What makes you say its too big for up and down dunes? My old whippet ( which was crap) caught a few on the dunes but was hopeless on the big flat fields I normally do.
  9. Exactly, stunning birds, watching the flock in the thousands must be one of natures most beautiful sights.......... Stunning to watch the flocks, but the b*****ds are eating £22,000 worth of feed a week down the massive free range poultry farm down the road from me! Absolutely no shortage or decline in numbers of them in this part of the world, as I've been saying for years when the 'how can you hate them, they're lovely and rare' comments come up when I let my feelings be known about them on here! They've got a licence to cull 10% of the numbers there now, 3 lads walking round with roc
  10. I'm on my phone so the pics really small but is it not a hen gold dimorphic on the right at the back?
  11. Looking good millet, the safety porch on mine is removable so I can just fold it up and stick it out the way. Just an idea for you.
  12. I had a Jill off tomo that used to eat there eyes and then bolt them, even the terrier could catch the ones that snuck out
  13. I've got a Brittany x whippet greyhound Catches rabbits ok but is nuttier than squirrel shit.
  14. A flat packed one in your bag or attached to the bottom of your ferret box would be a good idea? They soon cable tie together.
  15. I'm on my phone so the pic isn't that clear but is it not lime logs?

  19. I've got a 5yr old and something like this happening doesn't bear thinking about, its not looking good news either is it.
  20. Is that 5+11m12 stone tomo? Sounds like you all had a good day, I'm itching to get out myself but the covers far too high to enjoy it.
  21. I know I'm not alone in feeding frozen stuff to the ferrets as I've read of others doing it on here, frozen meat in warm weather doesn't stay frozen very long. Frozen stuff is ok for the dog too I just drop it in a bucket of water for a bit to take the ice off it and then give it them, obviously I'm talking chicken carcasses here not blocks of mince.
  22. The hob you've described Rob sounds exactly like a Jill kit I was given this year who was out of a stray ferret which was already in kit when found. The kits were all dark and their behaviour is different to normal ferrets. The way she acts I was pretty sure she was gonna be a skulker but she had her first outing this weekend and came out ok, she went straight to ground and she also bolted a couple so looking promising. Her mother also turned out a good worker too.
  23. I've had it before but I didn't witness the actual killing so can't say if it was killed intentionally or died naturally but the kit was fine in the morning and half eaten when I got home.
