  1. That’s why I’ve not bred from him. He will Hunt and take most things but he wouldn’t do it all in style. I got him as a rabbit dog to start with and he didn’t really start on anything else until he was 3 or 4. He’s taken to hunting on the hills pretty well considering. Depends what folk want I suppose
  2. I’m not a saluki expert but own a dog who is 1/4 saluki about 1/8 collie the rest is grew. The saluki has definitely brought something Different. Yes he’s sulky but when he’s working the rocks on the hills or lamping he just seems to run clever. He hunts things pretty decent daytime too and will follow scent well. He will retrieve most things from long distances. He’s been unlucky with injuries. Accidents when working rather than bad breeding. Like I say I’m no expert but the right saluki has to offer more than just stamina or good feet.
  3. I’ve been around a few bushing terriers. The JRT above was called Bella. Still is the best bushing terriers I have clapped eyes on and I’m not just saying that because I know Newkid. I used to run my spaniel terrier with her most weeks from when he was about 6 months. She stayed with us a lot and she was great with the kids. Watching her bush and ferret opened my eyes up to having a terrier around rather than just Lurchers. Unfortunately she had to be spayed so there was never a litter taken from her.
  4. Agree there mate. More non lurcher looking the better. Things are changing. Hopefully have a run out with you soon. Be good to see the young bitch hunting. She looks a cracker. Still think you should have lined that older bitch ?
  5. Do the pure ones range out as far as you send your Lurchers out? I just think if your other lurcher is laid up then you are without something that might not be able to catch. 1/2 cross would find and catch?
  6. Go for something similar? Pure GWP would find and flush but so will the lurcher. Difference is the lurcher will catch. Not sure if pure GWP would? I don’t have any experience with the breed.
  7. I didn’t mention spaniel or spaniel terrier as the guy was asking about terriers. The ground up there would suit cocker, spaniel or spaniel terrier. As long as it get in the cover then win win
  8. You just want a general bushing terrier if you want something to hunt fairly close. Get it out with some other bushers from the off if you can. If it’s working with the Lurcher and is being encouraged to chase out of cover it might choose to stay on the outside more that in the cover. Once it knows it’s job you won’t look back. It will keep the Lurcher plenty busy. Had one busher to four Lurchers yesterday and they all had a good run. If you are up on the Plain then I would try get something that doesn’t go to ground.
  9. No mate. Had a couple people ask. Maybe one in the pipeline. If they like the way he works and I like the bitch then I’ll line him. Maybe next year or so. I’ll want a pup from him so something that is similar or works similar will suit me. ?
  10. He’s 4 and a half now mate
  11. I know you have to ha e the right beddy blood but the whippet blood is just as important. I wouldn’t know the difference between ped, non ped etc. I would just want one doing its job well
  12. I don’t know much about whippets or beddy crosses but have been out with a few beddy crosses. 1/2 and 1/4 bred. Ones I go out with are great for ferreting and lamping. I like having them on the hills with us. They will hit any cover and love to hunt. A good whippet was put over the 1/2 cross and all the off spring seem to be doing well. Mate kept the smallest bitch back, she’s 19tts and isn’t scared of anything. I put this down to him using the right whippet.
  13. Hare pasty.....great stuff. Why was the bitch going to be PTS?
  14. Good luck with him. Sure he will do you proud
  15. I see there’s no negative comments on this thread!! Strange that. ATB.
  16. Brilliant. I’d like to have a trip over there and do some canoeing in the summer months ?
  17. Looks like they had a decent day out ?
  18. Mine eat them however. If they have had a cold day I just leave them in warm water a bit and they woof them down. If not you might have to cut up smaller or mince
  19. I’m the same poxon. Nothing goes to waste. Hate seeing food go in the bin. Always drain the baking/roasting trays into the dog bowls. All table scraps go in too.
  20. Don’t worry about amounts at this stage. Feed as much as it will eat in a sitting
  21. Keep it simple. I have the book and there’s some decent info in the nutrition chapter. It’s a handy book for when the dogs get injured etc. All explained simply which is good for us Lurcher folk! Mine are on raw but rarely mince it. For young dogs I would mince some stuff to get them started. Tips of chicken wings etc I find they can eat no bother. Tins of sardines are spot on. You can complicate things. I know I did when I first started. Get to your local butcher and ask for off cuts and any carcass. They might help out. There’s some decent info in the barf section on here. Don’t encourage fu
  22. Good news. Should make great little dogs
