  1. Slightly different for me, but ive got a few friends into clay pigeon shooting by taking them along with me, introducing them to the gun safety and rules of clay shooting etc... then letting them use my gun whilst im with them. They have all loved it and some have gone off and got their own SGC`s now.
  2. Ive used a wire coat hanger before, although very very carefully!
  3. Makes you wonder doesnt it. When you said the guy was jumping about hollering and waving to scare the rabbits, reminded me of another similar tale I read on here once where some guy was shooting pigeons or something and a bloke did exactly the same thing, only the guys waving and hollering actually caused the birds to fly directly over the shooter and the shooter managed to shoot a load of them much to the anti`s anger! Made me laugh tho!
  4. I use either the local dealer or the clay ground itself. My clay ground sells them for the same price as the dealer. If im buying from the dealer, i tend to buy 1000 at a time, so it lasts me a few weeks - tend to get through about 250 cartridges everytime me & brother hit the clay ground. I get a slightly better price for 1000, but cartridges are still expensive now compared to a few years back.
  5. Practical Shotgun is another valid reason to have a FAC semi shotgun.
  6. After all these different suggestions, im dying to know what the right answer was! Let us know how you get on!!!
  7. Well as far as im concerned, how long is a piece of string? Whatever works well for someone is the "best" clay gun as far as they are concerned. Im fortunate to have a variety of guns which I use for clays, and my current favourite gun is a Spanish sbs 12 bore with tight chokes which is worth less than £100. I get as good results with that as my more expensive o/u`s or my beretta semi.
  8. Certainly seems its very unlikely that a fox would want to attach a couple of babys. Most strange. Wonder if they have a pitbull hiding under the stairs?
  9. Nice results there. Also good to give her a chance to drive, my parents let me do similar when i was around 14. Used to drive their cars around on private land etc.. by the time I turned 17 id already had 3 years experience. Made passing my test much easier.
  10. Well according to the reporter I was listening to on the telly the other day in the wake of the recent shootings.. "you need a firearms license for air rifles". So if those who dont really know the laws and dont know you only need FAC for FAC air rifles believed that, the number of FAC applications for "home protection against foxes" may increase... lol.
  11. My dad has one and has a problem with jamming sometimes, regardless of whether he has fired it or not. I assumed that it was just his gun as its absolutely ancient and knackered!
  12. Could be the aged memory playing tricks butI'm sure an elderly lady was bitten a while ago when she was reaching for her milk on the doorstep. I was called to deal with one that was asleep in a cat bed by a backdoor last year . What was surprising was that it was on the first floor of a block of flats! Thats mad! Around here in the fens, foxes tend to be quite wary of humans, but i guess as the other guy said, if people in towns think "ahhhh bless" and feed them, then they soon loose that natural wariness of humans....
  13. Legend has it game keepers used to deliberately release a few domestic black rabbits into fields for them to breed as it helped them spot when the numbers of rabbits were dropping due to poachers. - At least thats what i read in one of my old poaching books! Ive never seen one, but my missus swears blind she has seen one. Although I have my doubts as when we were driving along the other day she said "quick, look its a black rabbit". I piled my brakes on and reversed to have a look and it turned out the "black rabbit" was a crow in the field - so now when she claims to see a black rabbit i
  14. Id agree that the bottom 3 are chinese b2`s. Not really worth much these days although would give some kid hours of pleasure plinking in the back garden.
  15. Dont know if anyone else has found this, but I shot another magpie in my garden last week and it landed in the middle of my garden. Before I had chance to go out there and pick it up, i noticed 3 massive crows all going mental trying to land next to the magpie. Now, ive not seen any crows in my garden for years, so i was supprised to see them come in so quick! Ive had magpies come in to checkout their dead friends before but didnt realise crows were interested in magpies.... Maybe a magpie decoy would work better than a crow one?!
  16. Id keep at it. How about driving about and if you notice no end of rabbits or pigeons in some farmers field approach them then and say what you have seen. If they claim to have someone already "doing it" then that person obviously is rubbish and it might prompt them to give you a try. It is hard though, shooting seems more popular than ever these days, and farmers seem to be naturally distrusting people at the best of times.
  17. What always puzzles me is if real handguns are so easy to get hold of illegally who in their right mind would go to all the hassle and danger of converting something like this blank firing gun and risk blowing their hands off, when they could just get a real one? Being caught with either carry the same penalty, so surely it makes sense to get the real thing if your criminally minded?
  18. Excellent result, esp for a smk!
  19. Excellent write up! Really makes me want to get my air rifle out and go to the fields right now!
  20. Christ. Really makes you wonder how a bunch of thick chavs like that get a gun to play about with unsupervised. Absolutely no idea of the concept of gun safety at all.
  21. How long is a bit of string really. Ive got a lanber 12bore o/u multichoke and I love it. You can pick them up in your price range atm. As a side note though, i personally wouldnt worry about a multichoke. Its a "nice to have" but in my guns ive never changed the chokes since i put them in. For pigeon / clays / rabbits, im currently using a cheapie fixed choke side by side gun. Does the job perfectly well and im less worried about it getting knocked or dirty than my more expensive guns. As a first gun, id do my research on the net and workout which ones are "likely canditates", then ni
  22. I think the number of shots will depend upon the manufactorer, i believe several companies make co2 92f`s. Ive got an Anics Skiff a3000 which ive had a while, and if I remember rightly I can get about 60 full power shots out of 1 c02 cartridge before the power drops off. Certainly good fun for plinking in the garden, although they are supprisingly noisey and make sure you have understanding neighbours - in case they see you running around the garden with a "handgun".
  23. Tell me about it, ive got the same problem, 4.30 / 5am every morning they are clacking like mad trying to attack the little birds nests in my garden. Ive shot 2 now, the last one caused a right row as within 5 mins of shooting it, and it laying dead on my lawn, along came another 2 magpies and 3 crows all making a right racket. Unfortunately none of them landed in positions where I could get a safe shot off, so I had to get rid of the dead magpie before the neighbours wondered what all the noise was about!
  24. I was quite supprised and pleased to hear Cameron saying that. With regards to the suggestions about a yearly mental health / psychiatrist checkup for gun owners, im in 2 minds about that. Ive had a lot of psychometric tests and interviews with psychiatrists when I have applied for jobs over the years and no 2 have come back with the same results. The "profile" the psychiatrist comes up with is based purely on the answers you want to give and how the doctor interpretates those answers. Also, if for example I had a relation die and the psychiatrist asked me how i felt and i said i felt
