  1. Cracking read! Really enjoyed it. Sounds like you have some serious competition there!!!! And great to see a young un learning the ropes.
  2. I tend to buy 1000 at a time and used to keep them under the bed. Then one day I suddenly realised, if there was a fire or something and I didnt wake up, if they went off, id probably loose my legs!!! Now I keep them in a cupboard out of the way!!!
  3. Ive tried the 3inch eley subs and non sub`s in my mossberg hushpower 410. Both fibre. The subs are definately quieter when you stand a distance away from firing the gun. The non-subs seem to have more kick however. A lot of people swear by normal 2 1/2 .410 cartridges, rather than the 3inch ones, but i havent tried them so cant comment.
  4. And its not a torx screwdriver you need its atually a security torx screwdriver size 10 in fact, because the screw you undo has a dimple in the middle of it. Once you undo that theres a very small allen screw in there which you adjust. As others have said, dont do it until you have access to a chrono. The adjuster will only give you about a very slight bit more power but should get you upto 11 which is more what the s410 normally puts out. If it doesnt, then there are problems elsewhere in the gun. To be honest, for the sake of a few quid id be tempted to give the gun a full service. T
  5. Sounds like your going to be one busy person sorting all that permission out!!! Nice one!
  6. Well, ive got a s410 carbine, and mines putting out 11.5 at the moment. Ive a chrono and find that it doesnt matter if i fill it to 190bar or if its runing only 120bar, it still puts out 11.5ish. So you dont need to get a regulator just yet. tillylamp - there is defiately something not right with your gun. Is it the anti-tamper model? If it isnt, then you can adjust the power up slightly easily. But, id only do this if you have access to a chrono so you can make sure its still legal. If its the anti tamper - or if your in doubt, id take it down to your local gunsmith. They will be able to
  7. A lot of people who do target shooting go for the .177`s. Hense, looking on the net i notice the .177 version of the s410 seems to be about 100quid more 2nd hand in some places!!!! Out in the field there really isnt much difference. The .22 has a move curved tradgectory so you have to factor that in when your shooting things. Personally I prefer .22, and chatting to my local gunshop the other day, he sells twice as many .22`s as .177`s.
  8. And thats just one bloke! They reckon theres about about 70 armed officers searching for him, plus 20 armed vehicles shipped over from NI, plus police snipers! They still havent said what weapons this Moat guy has appart from they suspect its a couple of sawn off shotguns!
  9. I remember reading an article in a newspaper when I was in the states a few months back and it said about the number of guns the homelands department have lost over there and its a lot. They gave examples of cops leaving them in washrooms at gas stations, leaving them on the roof off their car as they drove off and all sorts. I was amazed!!!!
  10. Excellent going. Dont you love new permissions? I always get good results the first time out, but they soon tend to learn and future outtings never seem as productive! Still the owner should be happy there, with that size of a bag!
  11. AA field diablo`s in my s410 carbine, 5.52 size. Gives me pellet on pellet at 45 yards. Cracking gun.
  12. Cool, thanks for the input everyone. Just got to phone around now and try and get a more sensible quote.
  13. Yeah, Dave is next on my list of people to call to be honest. I`ll give him a bell. Sage - cheers for your reply.
  14. I had exactly the same decision to make a few years back. Do I go for the mossberg .410 hushpower or a decent .22 air rifle. I opted for the mossberg. I figured, not only could I use it for the rabbits, I could also use it for pigeons etc.. To be honest, after taking it lamping a few times, I found it wasnt really practical unless you were shooting from a vehicle - i was lamping on foot, and very often hiding up and waiting for rabbits to appear. Also, the range wasnt as good as I liked. So, I ended up going out and buying a decent .22 PCP air rifle. Now, I find i use the air rifle for
  15. Depending up on how big the fields are where you have permission, where you can hide and where the targets are, then it may be worth getting an FAC for an FAC air rifle. As others have said, a legal powered air rifle is enough for 45m. So, if you have places on your permission where you can hide within 20->45m of the targets then you should be fine. If however, you dont have such luck, and your targets are going to be further away then an FAC may be worth going for. As others mentioned, 3ft/lb wont make a huge amount of difference. You`ll need 20ft/lb to 30ft/lb really to make t
  16. Can anyone recommend a good gunsmith in the Cambridgeshire area who can give a cheap spanish 12bore a service. The 2nd barrel has started not firing occasionally, so i assume its either a weak spring, or the previous owner put so much oil on the hammers that it needs a good clean out. Ive just phoned one gunshop in spalding and they wanted £100 to service it which is more than the gun is worth. Any recommendations? Id do it myself but no matter how much I try (even using the proper gunsmith bits) I can not get the bottom plate screw undone.
  17. Luckily ive been quite fortunate really and not had any problems, but then i do live in a very rural area where people are used to seeing guns. I did have one townie person who had moved to the country phone the land owner to inform them that there was a bloke with a gun wandering around on their land once - but once the land owner explained that I had permission, then i never had any more problems.
  18. Thats rediculous, talk about 1 extreme to another. Wheres the police`s common sense here? Or the consistancy in their actions? Seems the firearms enforcement people must go to the same police training as their speeding enforcement teams. For Example over the past few years: a) My brother was overtaking 2 cars safely. As he passes the first car, the driver decides he also wants to overtake and pulls out without looking, ramming my brothers car off the road and down a ditch writing the car off. Driver doesnt stop. Police catch up with the guy and send him on a drivers awareness course.
  19. Maybe worth doing a search on here, as this is quite a common question and there have been a lot of good replies in the past. From the sounds of it, you ideally need a gun which can do everything. So, the popular choices these days wouldbe something like a 12bore o/u. You could go with a semi auto instead, they are great for clays and pigeons, but some driven days & walk ups dont like them. With regards to an o/u, you dont need to spend silly money. Firstly id go to a few local shops and see what they have, see how the guns fit. Some guns seem to fit better than others. Get an idea
  20. As the others have said, id go for the air arms, for that price its a steal. If you could get the s410 for a fraction more then that would be even better. When you factor in the costs, your looking at about 40quid for the silencer, and about 40quid for the scope (as a rough guide) which means you`ll be getting that gun for next to nowt. Pump wise, your looking at about 120quid for a pump new, but they do hold their value well.
  21. Another vote for AA field diablo in 5.52 size (if its a .22) from me. Mine loves them!
  22. Thats good results then! My 2007 model s410 carbine pushes out a healthy 11.4, but my mates anti tamper one only pushes out 9.something.
  23. All good advice here. I think most people when first starting off have the same problem. I certainly found the same thing. In the back yard i could get pellet on pellet at 35 yards. But out in the field I couldnt hit a barn door. It was only when I started pacing out distances in the field I realised what I thought was 35 yards turned out to be more like 50 yards! Its all about practise really and getting to know your land. Good luck!!!
  24. Could be a tough one. I think it will really depend upon how bad your depression was and the type of medication you are on. I think your doctor would need to give a report so the FEO can make a risk based judgement. If its just mild depression then you may be okay, but if its severe depression or you had a breakdown then it may be seen as high risk.
