As others have said this is like saying how long is a piece of string. Firstly id read up as much as possible on this forum. A lot of rabbit and shooting experts on here. Id suggest the best option for rabbit hunting is an air rifle. I started with a springer, but soon sold it and got a PCP air rifle. I wish id done that for a start. A nice 2nd hand air arms s410 (or similar) like mine can be had for about £450 second hand and is deadly accurate to 40->45 yards. Once you get a gun, the main thing to do is practise on targets until you are 100% confident you can get pellet on pellet

About 30mins to mine, although ive just moved so thats more like 45minutes now.

Christ, looks like a horse! Nice shot and well worth braving the bad weather!

Ive got one. Mixed opinions on it really. Its not as accurate or as quiet as a decent PCP air rifle, which would cost a similar price. Also, you have to think how will you use it with the lamp? I ended taping the lamp to the silencer on the mossberg. Noise wise, apparently the fully moderated single barrel .410`s are quieter than the pump action, but in my experience the noise it gives off depends where you are in the field. If you are in the middle of the field, then the noise is litterally like a sneeze. First time i heard it i was amazed. Its quieter than my old springer air rifle,

Had my SGC interview yesterday
jackinbox99 replied to Dan_Mercian's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Some excellent advice here. Fit is the most important thing, and dont worry about too much about the brand or cost. The 2 guns I use most out of my collection is my beretta semi automatic which cost about £800 if i remember rightly, and my spanish side-by-side which cost about £100. You couldnt get 2 more different guns, but both fit me perfect. In actual fact, I find im reaching more for the side by side now than the beretta. It just fits me perfect, and I seem to get on better with the lighter gun with shorter barrels. Id try a few out, make notes of the makes / models, then shop abou -
Thats a bargain. Ive got one of these and love it. Very powerfull compared to most of the other pistols ive used. Get 60 shots or more from one C02 bulb. Great fun.

Sounds like your mount is wrong or the SBS dont fit you properly. Ive a cheapie SBS i use for clays and it fits like a glove. Certainly doesnt feel any different to my semi. With a SGC you can get lots of shotguns on the certificate. You just send a letter to the firearms section of the local police informing them of the new purchase - who you bought it from, the date, serial number and your sgc number. With regards to a semi, £700 is a good budget, you can get a nice selection for that. Id opt for a "decent" brand, such as my beretta 391. It will hold its value better. With regar

shotgun fore end pistol grip/tommy gun type grip?
jackinbox99 replied to matt_hooks's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
I think the poster is refering to the forend, rather than the stock. These sort of grips are popular in america, for "home defense shotgun", along with the actual pistol grip stock, but I dont think ive ever seen one in wood, they tend to be synthetic. -
Nice looking gun!

Funny thread!

Id certainly shop around and not rush into buying anything - certainly take any gunshops advise with a pinch of salt until you have had chance to check out reviews and other owners opinions of various guns. Id also certainly go for a cheapie gun for the first one. My first was a £100 baikal o/u. Came with 2 sets of barrels with fixed chokes - one set was for skeet, one for sporting. For both myself and my brother it was a cracking gun, and we put litterally thousands of cartridges through it before I finally part ex`d it for a new lanber o/u. The gunshop actually allowed me £150 on the b

Ive got a mossberg pump action .410 hushpower which ive had for a year or so now. My verdict on it, is that its good and bad. Out in the field when your not near any buildings or hedgerows, its about the same volume as a springer air rifle. Once you get near buildings or hedgerows, its louder. Its certainly a lot louder than a pcp rifle, but mega-quiet compared to a normal un silenced shotgun. The click click of the pump soon becomes anoying however and in the field can be louder than the actual firing of the gun! Also, .410 subsonic cartridges are not cheap. About 7quid for 25.
-
Look on ebay or local free ads, you often see no end of cabinets for sale - usually about 60->70quid for a 3 gun cabinet. Reason being is that most people start of with a small 2 or 3 gun cabinet, then find themselves upgrading after a year or so for a much bigger one. I know I did! If you could afford it id recommend going straight for a 5 or 7 gun cabinet, but you say moneys an issue.

Excellent shooting! esp 3 in a row! £10 isnt bad going!

How Many Shotguns on Certificate
jackinbox99 replied to matt_hooks's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
I think it depends on the feo really as to what their opinion is. Ive heard in the past of people`s feo saying "you can fit 5 guns in that cabinet" - then if you go over that number of guns, they raise a query with you. Ive also heard of feo`s suggesting people have a house alarm fitted if they have X number of guns. Of course, I dont think there are any "official" guidelines on this, so its all down to the individual feo. Personally in my experience, ive never once had an FEO even look at my gun cabinet or check ive actually got one, and never had any queries regarding number of guns ive -
As someone else said, servicing its very easy to do youself. I bought a complete seal kit incl new bolts from ebay for next to nothing. In order to strip the gun you just need a few allen keys. Take your time over it and jobs a good un. Obviously, once you have changed the seals and re-filled the gun you should get it chrono`d to make sure its still pushing out the right power, and re-zero the scope. Im assuming your`s is the pre-anti-tamper model, otherwise, you`ll have to take it to a gunshop to get it sorted out as you have to drill out the anti tamper bolts etc. etc.... nightmare!!

And that doesnt only apply to gunslips........

Anyone had this happen?????????
jackinbox99 replied to Daveo's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Actually, joking aside, the gun will probably now be worth a lot more if you can get it de-activated, and saw it off. I have seen sawn off deactivated shotguns advertised for decent money - aimed at film studios / props / antique collectors etc... In fact, they sell for a lot more than a decent working non deactivated shotgun sells for. -

My thoughts exactly. Jesus Christ, I would have filled my boxers up to the brim if that happened to me. -
Same as any air rifle. If you have one you have to make sure its legal. If you dont have it on FAC, then make sure it meets the legal requirement!
-
Hmm.. ive a s410 carbine too, but unless i had problems with it i wouldnt swap it. How about spending the cash on a regulator or some extras for your s410?

Search and you will find out. Long and short is that .177 is easier because flatter tragetory, but .22 is allegedly got more stopping power although a curved tragetory and therefore you have to workout hold over / under. You will find people prefer one or the other based upon personal experience. Searching on here, or on the net in general will tell you all you need to know!

Suggestions for SG for clays & game
jackinbox99 replied to markha's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Its all about personal preference. As you can see from my signature, i have a few guns. I opted for a beretta 391 semi multichoke for my first expensive gun. The fact its a jack of all trades. Ideal for anything.... clays, pigeons, crows, anything! I used to put 500 shells through it easily every weekend. You can pick them up now for £650 upwards. But, to be honest, now i find, im using a sub £100 spanish 12bore sbs fixed choke for everything. It has fixed chokes and is more designed for game shooting, but when ive taken it down the clay range and put 300 shells through it in one morning, -
Do a search. This question comes up time and time again. In summary you have loads of choice for 500quid. Ranging from something like a Hatsan Escort for 250 upto a Beretta al391. Loads of plus`s and minus`s. Personally, id try and aim for a 391. You may be looking at 600quid minimum for one, but they are awesome and hold their value well. Do a search and see what people have said to other people asking the same question.
