Actually just read an interesting article on one of the websites showing the statistics for gun crimes and it quoted: "Police figures show that there were 39 firearms-related deaths in 2008-09 and that seven of these involved a shotgun. That total was the lowest recorded by the police in 20 years. Guns play a role in just 0.3% of all recorded crimes - one in every 330 incidents." Which if you take these figures as being accurate seems to show that what gun laws we have currently are in fact working. It doesnt say how many of those incidences involved licensed gun owners, but i would im

Well its as we expected the media now cause mass panic and say that gun laws are not working and demand a change in them, then all the anti`s jump on the band wagen too. I had to turn the news off last night as I was so angry at the reporter trying to spoonfeed words into an MP`s mouth regarding "maybe we should ban shotguns". And another reporting wrongly stating "you heed a license for airguns" and "shotguns were not affected by any of the previous changes in the gun law". In my view the gun laws are not working. They banned semi autos after hungerford, but dunblaine still happened. They

This is all we need. I wonder what knee jerk reactions the goverment will impliment following this? Maybe ban all shotguns?

My first car was a 1972 850cc Mini. Cost me £20 to buy and £500 to insure 3rd party only. Sigh.....

For me, gun fitting is about getting the gun so when you mount it "naturally" the gun is automatically pointing in the right place. Each gun I have fits me slightly differently out of the box. Due to this I find sometimes I get on better with some guns better than others. I remember reading a guide to "gun fit" once and the author said, close your eyes, then mount your gun, open your eyes and see where the rib is in relation to your eyes. If its lined up then its a good fit for you. The reality is, everyone mounts their guns differently, so one make of gun may fit you better and feel more

Mate think you should get a job as a pathologist or something with your disections! All very interesting though, and an excellent shot on that pigeon! Rather than chop em up, i just pluck them, and cut the breasts / legs off, saves messing about with the rest of the bird!

Shooting rabbits in the summer.

best silencer for airgun
jackinbox99 replied to bratton's topic in Rifle Reviews, Technical Help and Tips
Id agree with Adam on this one. Ive got both a logun and a weihrach HW100 silencers which ive used on my s410k, and in all fairness didnt notice much difference between them. Both are whisper quiet. If the gun seems loud it may well be something like the hammer spring. -
Excellent shooting. It always is very rewarding when you dont come away empty handed!

Stating the obvious, but have you tried diffrent times of the evening / night to go? Ive noticed on my way home from work, sometimes I pass a certain field at about 6.30pm and there are litterally hundreds of bunnys running around. Then yet another day, i pass at the same time and there is not a single rabbit to be seen. Im not sure what kind of logic rabbits use to go out or not, as it doesnt seem to matter what the weather is doing, or how cold / warm it is. Sometimes I see loads, other days I dont. Unless they were out and got spooked by something so ran back in their warrens?

I was going to suggest using a wheel barrow! On a serious note tho, I actually use my dad most of the time. He lives over the road from my permission, so once ive got 2 or 3 rabbits, i leave them near gate to the field and txt him. He pops over, picks them up and takes them home. The advantage with doing this, is that by the time ive finished for the night and pop over to see him, he has all the rabbits skinned & gutted ready for me! Saves me the time & effort! Only disadvantage with this is that my parents have had so much rabbit stew over the last year that they are sick to death

I have a semi, a pump, a sbs and a o/u, and so can compare all 4 for you. I love the semi, mines a beretta al391. Ive put thousands and thousands of cartridges though it, mainly on the clays. You can easily put 200 through it in a session and have no problems with recoil or a sore shoulder. Mine fires anything from low power 21g clay loads, upwards. Ive only ever had it not feed the next cartridge twice in the 6 or 7 years ive had the gun and the thousands ive put through it. I personally tend to clean it maybe 2 or 3 times a year and thats it. For me it was a great choice, its easy to use

What a shot!!!!!!! Nice one!

My dad still has an ancient Diana model 27 (i think) .22 air rifle. He keeps it near his shed door and very often when he`s pottering about his his shed, he`ll take a shot at a pigeon. He`s had several pigeons, jackdaws and magpies with it. Personally I wouldnt touch it with a barge pole. We tried zero`ing the iron sights in on it a few months back and the gun was firing so in-consistant it was hard to get a decent zero, and it was obviously pushing out not much power. But, my dad seems to have good results with it and enjoys it.

Dunno about shooting ducks, but i went for a walk around some local lakes the other day and there were millions of ducks asleep. You could litterally walk up and pick one up with your hands if you so wished!

lol! well he does hang out in grave yards most of the time!!!!

Nice one, i havent been on my most fruitfull permission in weeks, so im gagging to get back on there! Im hoping they will have got more confident and started venturing out, especially since its spring time!

Personally i think they are all as bad as each other - at least the main parties are. They will 9 times out of 10 once they are in power, try and go for the easy options to win public support - like knee jerk reactions to gun shootings etc... Then once a new party comes in they are not likely to revoke previous stuff as it will cause bad publicity to them. So there is no way the legislation which has been put in place will be revoked no matter now stupid it is.

Phantom has it spot on, dont try and shoot them near sets. Ive had a couple of "runners" in the past. Nice accurate shot, and they have somersaulted like they were in the circus, but then after laying "dead" for a few seconds the nerves have kicked in and they have run for a couple of metres before keeling over. If your near the set, their flee reaction will be to go towards it. Best of waiting for them to get a bit further away. Thats the problem with an air rifle, sometimes the wind will drift the pellet off just a little bit and it wont be an instant kill through the brain.

Id agree with the other comments. Id stick with a normal NON FAC air rifle for what you want. Ideal for rats, rabbits, pigeons, magpies and anything else along those lines. Personally i dont think its worth the hassle and expense of going FAC just for an FAC air rifle. If your going FAC you should go for a 17hmr or 22lr if you can get permission for them. With regards to Geese and Duck.. your better off with a shotgun!

New Permission..... Part 2 (warning graphic)
jackinbox99 replied to Alexisrouzee's topic in Airgun Hunting
What a cracking write up. Dont you love it when that happens. I presume the permission hasnt been shot on before? I had a similar experience at one of my permissions when I first got it. I could litterally walk up to within 20 yards of the rabbits and shoot them. Got 5 within about an hour. Then the first 2 visits after that I got 3 within 30mins. 3 shots, 3 rabbits each time. Unfortunately they soon learn and now im lucky if i get any, or if I do, they are so nervous you cant get within shooting range easily. -
I wish the pigeons were as easy atm. There have been 2 massive ones loitering about my garden recently, but never land where I can get a safe shot off. Yesterday evening they sat on the neighbours garage staring at me. Then as if to take the mickey out of me they started sh*gging!!! Well... it lasted about 3 seconds, then they both sat there exhausted and didnt move for 15minutes! Talk about an easy shot, if only they hadnt been on the neighbours garage. Sigh.....

Every morning at about 6.30am I get woken up by the sound of magpies clacking like mad and the terrified chirping of baby birds in the tree down the bottom of my garden. So, I usually get up, grab the air rifle and go downstairs to see if I can get a safe shot off. But, the magpies seem to know their stuff as they always stay in the branches where they know I wont take the shot because it isnt safe. The other day, there were 4 magpies all jumping around trying to get to this poor birds nest. Anyway. This morning, same thing happened, but I looked and didnt see any magpies around. So, downs

Top notch shooting there mate. Spot on. Perfect shots each time! Makes it worthwhile when you get a result like this dont it! I too well know the pain of hours of laying about waiting for them to appear and go home empty handed. And yet other days I get 3 within 30mins.

I dont see it a problem personally if you were renting a house and wanted to mount a gun cabinet somewhere, as long as when you moved you made good the holes. Its only the same as someone fitting shelves or something inside the house. But, unless you think your landlord would have a serious problem with it, id let him know to be on the safe side.
