  1. Would be interesting to see other results with the UB pen. I too was sceptical when I read it on here, but im all for trying anything once (err.. within reason!!!), so who knows, it might work! 3 pigeons tho is an excellent result, esp for air rifle, and a decent family meal!
  2. Christ, some terrible shooting in that video clip, he nearly always goes for the body shots and the bird is flapping about still alive!
  3. Have to say, i love the wood on your air arms. Looks awesome. And 1 bunny is better than none!
  4. To be honest, ive had exactly the same experience before. See bunny @ about 30 yards, aim at the brain, bang, rabbit somersaults and lays there dead. Then it seems to "come alive" again, and legs it like mad for 20 yards before just kealing over. Initially I just assumed it must have been a bad shot, but when I picked the rabbit up, the pellet had gone exactly where I wanted it to. So, my verdict was just that it must have been the rabbits built in "panic mode" and its body said "run run run" even tho it was dead. Very un-nerving when I experienced it tho. I had to check my zero when I got
  5. See, ive heard that rabbits like the due as they suck the grass to get the moisture out of it? From my experience tho, ive found each permission is different. Ive seen bunnys sitting outside in the pouring rain eating grass. Some love sunbathing and just sit there in the sun seemingly asleep. Some only come out dusk / dawn, others spend all day running around. Maybe it depends upon how threatened they feel and what they are used to. In general though, i certainly notice more bunnies are out about at night, around 11pm. The local fields and grass verges near where I live just come alive
  6. Whats the weather conditions like when your out in the field? If its slightly windy it could affect the pellets path. Outside of that, id certainly try a different scope on the gun if you can. Also, make sure the gun is steady each time you shoot. I find laying prone is best for me or on a bipod, to keep it rock solid. My gun is zero`d in my back yard at 35yards and yet when i go out in the field, very often i aim at a target and the pellet goes somewhere else, so i think maybe ive knocked the scope in the car. I get home, check again and im perfectly zero`d.
  7. I finaly got one a few weeks back, a hawke 600. Have so say im very impressed with it. Accurate to 600meters. Easy to use, point and press a button, get measurement back in 1second. Cost me £135 from ebay. Well worth it.
  8. Having stripped and rebuilt my s410 with new seals last year I have to say its a very easy job. Unless your s400 has anti tamper bolts in which case you wont be able to easily take it apart. From memory, through googling i found a guide on youtube which showed how to take it all appart. You basically just need a few allen keys.
  9. I have a semi, a side by side, an o/u and a pump. I tend to use the semi for everything. I love it. I personally dont see why anyone would have a problem if i turned up at a shoot with a semi. If they dont trust me to be safe then they shouldnt be shooting with me in the first place and if someone has doubts about how safe I am then id rather just not shoot with them. The old "3 shots are unfair" thing is a load of rubbish. Just load 2 shots if thats a requirement. "Not sure if a semi is safe or loaded" thing is also rubbish. If the gun is pointing up in the air or down at the floor then it do
  10. I wish i could take my gun to work with me, there are litterally millions of magpies, pigeons and squirrels running around the office buildings where I work. Unfortunately its too close to houses, so even if I could get permission from the landlords to shoot there, i just wouldnt feel safe shooting. I think the birds & squirrels know that, thats why they sit there litterally 10meters from me laughing at me!
  11. Fantastic post and look at the size of some of those bunnys. Massive!!!! You are in for a treat on that new permission from the sounds of it, you can get massive bags if the bunnies just arnt used to anyone shooting them. Sitting ducks! And I note you have a hawk 600 too! Ive just bought one this last week and am very impressed with it. Quick, accurate and takes the guess work out of every shot. Well worth my the investment.
  12. Excellent thread. It really is amazing what knowledge we have on this forum!
  13. I wouldnt see any problem shooting using your middle finger. Ive done exactly that before in the past when ive hurt my trigger finger. Feels a bit strange for the first few shots, but you soon get used to it.
  14. I think the problem in general with airgun & shooting mags is that there is only so much you can say about guns. Unless a new gun comes out which needs a review, they all end up reprinting the same old stuff each time. Which is good if your a newbie, or been away from the scene for a while, but if not then you end up with not much new stuff to read about!
  15. To be honest, you dont even need to spend £75. Im using a £30 tasco scope i bought of a well known auction site on my .22 PCP and ive not had any problems with it at all. Keeps its zero perfectly and is accurate over the 50odd yards I tend to shoot.
  16. My local shooting ground`s clientel are far from this! Although we do get a few blokes who meet the above criteria - but I tend to avoid them. Id checkout a few local shooting clubs and see whats in your area. Its a great place to start, have fun and meet people. They`ll know about all the local competitions, and probably organise some themselves. Airgunning in general is becoming very popular atm and clubs are springing up all over the place, so you shouldnt have any problems finding some. If you do, have a chat to your local gunshop... they usually can recommend local places.
  17. Excellent find indeed! You have a great gun there, and hours of fun ahead of you!!!
  18. Agree with what has already been said. PCP is definately the way forward, and if you have a budget of £450 you can get a really good one 2nd hand. I use an air arms s410carbine in .22 for rabbits / pigeons / magpies etc... and its a cracking gun. Get 80shots out of a full charge, and it only takes me a few minutes to pump the gun up using a stirrup pump. Looking on the for sale sections of the various shooting forums over the past few months, you could get an s410 like mine, with silencer & scope for £400->£450, so certainly well within your budget. Of course, with a PCP you wil
  19. Dont you hate it when they just dont land on your permission? Yesterday I heard some magpies clacking so got the airgun out and sat hidden in my kitchen watching over my garden (large garden i hasten to add). There were 4 magpies flying about and about 4 fat pigeons. But would they land in my garden or in my trees where I could get a safe shot off? Nope. In the end, 2 of these magpies landed on a small tree in my neighbours garden about 2feet away from my boundry and sat there for ages and ages. It was as if they just "knew" I wouldnt shoot them there.
  20. Not sure if it would work personally, as in order to place the bunny decoys, surely you will be disturbing their area, leaving your smell there & making them less reluctant to come out. But, saying that, I have never tried it, so I may be completely wrong!
  21. I read this earlier, not something you hear about every day is it! I guess they are a seriously lucky bunch of chickens!
  22. Sounds a bit expensive to me, personally i would have gone for a more of brand name if your after a semi. For around £600 you could have got a beretta. For rabbits, id stick to something like an air rifle, 12bore vs rabbit means not much left to eat!
  23. To go against what others have said, id go for a semi. My first shotgun was a beretta 391 semi. Basically cos i wanted something which would be good at everything. Clays, pigeons, rough shooting. etc. And, for me, the semi worked out perfect. Its done all i have asked of it perfectly and god knows how many years later, I still have it and its still doing the job. One thing experience has taught me tho, is that some people prefer semis, others prefer o/u`s others prefer side by sides. In my experience, having one of each in my cabinet, is that it all falls down to what you feel comfortable
  24. Good shooting! There are no end of huge pigeons around my work which i see every lunchtime, unfortunately its a business park with houses in close proximity, so no chance of me ever being able to get permission or be able to shoot them. Shame, as they are seriously fat birds!
  25. Christ, thats a large squirrel!!! They dont seem to get that big around my way!!!
