exploded diagram AA400
jackinbox99 replied to kk7966burton's topic in Rifle Reviews, Technical Help and Tips
For the low cost involved, id recomend stripping it down and replacing all the seals anyway. I did mine last year and found it was a very easy job to do. Just need some allen keys.... unless yours is anti-tamper, in which case id leave it to the gunsmith. -
A rabbits a rabbit really, and as others have said, its your job to get them, and if thats what the green keeper wants, he gets! Excellent going tho, and 6 bunnys on the first outting isnt bad at all. Just hope they havent got you sussed out already and hide next time your there! Also, the small-medium rabbits are easier to skin!

Nice one! Nothing like getting that first bunny eh!

I had exactly the same gun as my first gun. At least, im pretty sure it was a 27E. It came with 2 sets of fixed choke barrels though, 26inch (ish) for Skeet, and a set of 28inch for sporting. I paid £100 for it 2nd hand. The gun was basically indestructable, and even though it was an old gun, like a lot of Baikels, still had a nice solid stiff break to it. I had it for a couple of years, and put through no end of cartridges at the clay ground before selling it to a local gunshop for £150. About the only time ive ever made any money on a gun! The gun was basic, nothing flashy, but did

Air Arms s400/s410 silencers
jackinbox99 replied to farmerkev09's topic in Rifle Reviews, Technical Help and Tips
Snap, same here. Although, for the significant extra cost I spent on the HW silencer & the adapter, I have to say i didnt notice much difference over the AA silencer which came on my s410 when I bought it. So, whether or not my AA silencer is standard inside I dont know. -
Im amazed at your perseverance. Sitting out there in the cold and rain for that long! Id have long since given it up and come back another day! Hope you also gave your gun a good whiping down, it looks well wet in your picture! Good work!

Best time of day to go for rabbits.
jackinbox99 replied to wanderinstar's topic in General Airgun Discussion
Thats similar to the fields i pass on the way home from work. They are in close proximity to a road, so you probably arnt allowed to shoot so close to a public highway. The bunnys must know this, hense its their party area! -
Yes with a Rowan Engineering mag http://www.rowanengineering.com/products1.htm These work very well, although only difference between the s400 with a rowan mag, and the s410, is that the s410 automatically loads next shot when you pull the bolt back. The rowan mag needs to be manually rotated by hand. I did consider the s400 + rowan mag myself, but when I factored in the extra cost of the rowan conversion, it was actually the same price as buying an s410 second hand. Which is what I did in the end.

Best time of day to go for rabbits.
jackinbox99 replied to wanderinstar's topic in General Airgun Discussion
Had to add another comment on here. Ive just driven home from work, and I past some fields just outside of the town where I work at about 6.30 and there were easily about 40 rabbits in them!!!!! -
Hmmm.. not sure id recommend a 12g for shooting rabbits, unless you want a bag of giblets to take home with you. Id go for a .410 or maybe a 20g for rabbits. You can also use it for pigeons. Then again, why stick to one gun. Some guns are so cheap now, you could get a .410 for bolting rabbits, and a 12g in either o/u or semi automatic for the pigeons / fox. That would be my recommendation. Another alternative would be to get a 12g, then use one of those reducing tubes to use the smaller cartridges for rabbits.

Snap. You really have to hear one to believe it. See if you can find a local friendly gunshop. Some if they are in a rural area will give you a demo so you can see for yourself. Ive not found any prob with range on my .410, using 3inch subsonics. Only things i`ll say against the mossberg.... 1) its a full choke on it, so you have to be accurate. 2) the mossberg, cos its a pump, with the silencer is a hell of a long gun, 3) it does take some getting used to where to aim with the silencer. I found initially i was shooting too high, so had to aim lower. 4) the "click click" of the pump

Depends on what your gun is proofed for! Ive the mossberg pump hushpower 410 and as the picture someone else posted shows, its proofed for 3inch. I use ELEY 3inch normal & subsonic loads in it.

As others have said its def not the hw100 silencer, and def not an AA one. Ive also got a theoben silencer and that too looks nothing like this one. So, still no further forward on identifying it, but we know 3 it definately isnt!
-
You`ll find it an excellent buy! I too was someone who has shot for years without bothering with one, but used to find it hard to judge some distances 40yards + accurately. I went for the Hawke 600, and now use it all the time. I was amazed at how quick / easy they are to use.

Starting a clay pigeon shoot on my farm
jackinbox99 replied to skredmeister's topic in Clay Shooting
Not wanting to hijack a thread, but on the same note. If i wanted to just shoot some clays on my own bit of land just by myself - not inviting public on it. Do I have to get "permission" from anyone? Police / council / anyone? -
tasco scopes
jackinbox99 replied to aaronpigeonplucker's topic in Rifle Reviews, Technical Help and Tips
To be honest, ive never actually used the illuminated recticle on mine, even tho it has red or green with about 5 different brightness settings on each. I found it a bit too distracting and bright, even on the dimmest setting. But, its nice to know that its a feature which is there should I need it. -
Well done! 30 acres is quite a bit really! And like you say, its a start and may lead to others..

Im amazed really at the polices response here. Its effectively saying that if you have a FAC or SGC then they dont trust you?! And therefore send out the Armoured Response Unit, or advise the officers that (shudder at the thought) he has a shotgun license...... Surely if you have an FAC or SGC then the only thing that tells the police pulling you over in your car, is that you are a RESPONSIBLE GUN OWNER? And even if you do have a firearm in the car then as a responsbile owner, you will be ensuring that the weapon is safe. Id have thought the police would be at more risk pulling over a car

Glad to see a good outcome on this, i like probably loads of others was watching this thread with baited breath!

If your in the market for a cabinet, theres a bloke on one of these forums who gets them new at an exceptionally good price. I got an 8 gun bretton sound gun safe off him a few years back for miles less than anywhere else selling it. Drop me a PM and i`ll send you his details if your interested.

Depends how many are missing from the tin as to whether I would complain or not. Have to say ive never bothered counting a tin of 500 before, I just havnt got the time. I wouldnt be at all supprised if a lot of people found their tin of pellets a few short. Ive been in a gunshop before talking to the owner about pellets and whether a particular brand is any good. Too my supprise the owner just took a tin off the shelf, took about 10 out and gave me to try when I got home. Then put the tin back on the shelf! I wouldnt mind if it had been his own tin, or a "sample pack" or something. But, I

tasco scopes
jackinbox99 replied to aaronpigeonplucker's topic in Rifle Reviews, Technical Help and Tips
I didnt realise these scopes were so popular! I have one too, and get on with it very well. Only fault I have is that due to the size of it, it is quite a heavy scope, but appart from that, I cant fault it. I must have shot 800 pellets through my gun with this scope and its been out on more hunting trips than I can remember - all without loosing its zero. -
Awesome looking bit of kit there tho, really does the job camo wise. I tend to use some cheap `s dpm camo gear I got off ebay for 4quid brand new. (trousers & jacket with hood) They fit nicely over top of tracksuit bottoms & fleece and are wind / tear resistant. Obviously dont blend in as well as the gillie suit, but for the money I paid i dont mind getting them covered in mud or laying in dykes etc. I think it depends on what your stalking though as to how effective what your wearing is. Rabbits tend to spot sudden movements and smell you from miles away. Ive had just as good resu

Depends what it actually finishes for. Most stuff on ebay fetches the market price and as an ex big time ebayer, its seldom you get many mega-bargains on there these days. Worth also noting that from the description, the cabinet isnt police approved. Still, if it only fetches 25quid at the end of the auction, then it will be a bargain for someone!

Effective range is all dependant upon how good / accurate you are with the gun! Id set up some 1inch targets over 25->45 yards and see how you get on. Personally I dont use my PCP for more than 45yard max, with most shots being around the 30->40yard distance. I know I could probably kill upto 55yards+, but at that distance you have to be super accurate and other factors such as wind have a greater impact.
