I assumed he was talking about the one at the newark showground this weekend? the British shooting show? They have a website with more details on.

Good point, and the old saying is that a "good workman doesnt blame his tools"..... But, I find a lot of sports have that huge psychological element to them and sometimes by using a more expensive "tool", or buying some sort of extra accessory makes the person think they are going to shoot better. Then if they think this, sometimes they do shoot better.

Im going on Sunday. Trying to justify what I can buy before I get there atm....

Thats a great bag for a new gun! Well done. One thing ive learnt is that money spent on a gun is not equal to the pleasure you get from it. Ive get more pleasure from a £60 shotgun than I do from a £1200 one. Sure, I can appreciate the workmanship and quality of some of my more expensive guns, and I do enjoy shooting them, but for out & out pleasure & fun it the cheaper gun for me!

Mossberg Pump Action Shotgun
jackinbox99 replied to zak-s410's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Ive always thought that the rules regarding Sec1 shotguns are a bit mad. For example, ive got both the .410 version of the mossberg hushpower above, and a semi auto 12bore beretta 391. Now, i am perfectly allowed to use both on any land ive got permission to shoot on. But, if i wanted to expand either gun to fire more than the 2+1 allowed, then I have to apply for a FAC, get a slot for that gun, the gun is then classed as a Sec1 gun rather than a normal shotgun which affects its resale value, i then have to get the land approved by the FEO for use for that gun etc... etc... All because I -
How to humanely dispatch pigeons with a air rifle
jackinbox99 replied to zini's topic in Airgun Hunting
I was only kidding mate, I thought it added character to the footage! Still love that long shot on the pigeon where you had 2 mill dots over, then added a bit of side for the wind. What a cracking shot. I ended up watching some of your other youtube clips like the lamping. Really made me want to grab my gun and go straight out myself. Top stuff! -
not happy with new pellets
jackinbox99 replied to ulverston moocher's topic in Rifle Reviews, Technical Help and Tips
Yeah, you have to be very carefull with the aa diablo pellets as they are very soft and can get damaged easily. I tend to get maybe 10 or 20 in a tin which are mis-shaped, but i just give them to my dad for his old springer instead! Another prob I have is if i put loose pellets in my jacket pocket then they can get bent a bit, so you have to be carefull. I dont see a problem with the shop swapping them. What a lot of shops do if you take things back is simply put it back on the shelf, as not everyone is "brave" enough to take things back, so they end up just off-loading on the next poor gu -
Try one of these mate...... http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/TASCO-R-G-illuminated-6-24x50-AOE-rifle-gun-scope-new_W0QQitemZ250466472786QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_SportingGoods_OtherSports?hash=item3a50f71352 Maybe look cheap nasty but they certainly do the business for myself, Zini and Festa  Darryl I actually use the same scope, bought it last year. Excellent value for money and I really get on well with it. Only thing id say against it is that its quite a heavy scope. I use the parallex adjustment to help me range find when out in the field.

How to humanely dispatch pigeons with a air rifle

Really enjoyed watching that video clip. Some good shooting there, especially the long range shots. Wish I had a quid for everytime you said "clinical shot" though! Wish I had that many woodies around my way! Impressive stuff. -
I tend to wait for long enough for the bunny to get his confidence up, hop away from his hole a bit and start eating before I shoot him. Its a fine line sometimes as i want him to be away from the hole, but if you leave it too long sometimes they scarper before you get a shot.

Excellent footage and shots! Bet your freezer is well stocked now!!!

Too right. My brother used to use a £100 o/u baikal with 26" barrels and used to "beat" guys who had top of range beretta o/u`s. To be honest, i think you enjoy it more when you know you havent spent a fortune on your gun, it certainly gave me a lot of satisfaction and im certainly going to take my cheapie sbs next time i go. Too many people throw money into their guns and equipment thinking it will give them better results when it doesnt always.

Nothing too hot tho, else the thermal imaging on the police helicopter might make them think you are growing things you shouldnt in your loft.... I dont see any problem with the cabinet in the loft. I know someone who has done just this without any problems.

WTF is up with people these days?
jackinbox99 replied to RaiderBoy's topic in General Airgun Discussion
lol, last time i did that i bumped into an woman walking her greyhound. I was expecting her to have a go at me, but instead she said "hello" and made a joke about hoping the greyhound didnt see the rabbits. Just goes to show really, depends on the type of person they are. If they have been bought up in a rural area like where im from, then you see people shooting every day and its a way of life. But, these days, you still get some "townie" folk moving out here and they just dont understand the rural way of life. -
As others have said, you need to make sure your mum knows you are responsible and serious about it. Joining a local clay club is a great way for her to see you are serious and are enjoying a great hobby. Once she sees that its not just a passing phase and that you are not turning into a "looney", then she shouldnt object to a SGC. I never had a problem getting an SGC as i was bought up in a farming area where virtually everyone has guns, incl most of my family. I did however have much more trouble trying to convience my mum to let me have a motorbike! So, i know what its like.

Well, I hadnt been clay shooting for months and months, so when the missus gave me a "allowed out" pass on Sunday I shot down the local clay range like a rocket. Normally I take either my Beretta 391 or my Lanber o/u sporter. I get good results with both, although have to say the 391 is my favourite. But this time I thought id also take a £60 spanish 12bore sbs I bought earlier in the year - just to put a few cartridges through it to make sure it worked okay. The clay place I go is normally nice & quiet, so theres no pressure and you can go around at your own pace, which is what I

Dont you love it when you have a good night out like that! Im always amazed how bunnys dont scarper after the mate they have just been chatting to keels over dead in front of them. They tend to look around puzzled, and if your quick enough you can get a shot off at them. I think the rain / wind actually helps with the element of supprise. Damn good going! Makes up for all those nights when you dont get anything.

If your in England then you dont need one for a sub 12ft/lb one. If in doubt, speak to a local gunshop, or your local Firearms officer.
-
Its so anoying when you spend so long in the field and nothing to show for it. I often see foxes on one of my permissions, but the rabbits dont seem to be too scared of them. Usually before he fox gets to the other end of the field the bunnys are back out.
-
Wow, some serious permission there. You guys are going to have great fun scoping the land out, working out were the bunnys / pigeons etc.. are, where the best places to hide etc... Good luck!
-
Id agree with that. I looked into the same to be honest. In the end i got a brand new 7 or 8 gun cabinet for 120quid. Couldnt beat that sort of price trying to get one made. If you need a smaller cabinet, a 3 gun one can typically be picked up 2nd hand for about 70quid.
-
Excellent write up there. Took me no end of visits to my first permission before i finally managed to bag a bunny. So you getting one first time out was excellent. Sounds like you have a good permission there from your description, loads of fun to come yet!!!

I would start by searching this forum and doing as much research as you can. See what others have previously recommended. Narrow it down to a few guns which are in your price range. Dont forget to factor in any other bits you may need like scope, silencer and make sure you include them in your budget. Some guns come with them, others you have to buy seperately. Once you have a list of guns, nip down a few local gun shops and try them out to see which you like. Dont buy the first you see if your not sure. There are plenty out there, so shop around.
-
In my opinion, the best gun is whatever you shoot best with. In my brothers case, it was my £100 cheapie baikal o/u 12g. He absolutely cleaned up anyone at my local clay range with it, incl blokes who had 5000quid guns.

My garden is 140ft long and about 50ft wide. Id love to use the 12 bore if i could, but it just isnt big enough. Id even not risk using my 410. The only thing i use in my garden is my air rifle. Even then I have to be very carefull as to what is behind the target as i wouldnt want to end up shooting my neighbours windows out. I tend to wait until the pigeons or magpies are on the lawn, so im shooting downwards at them. Unfortunately they seem to know this and happily sit on the neighbours TV ariel, knowing im not going to risk shooting them.
