  2. A Collie from working stock,. and required just to be a pet,..can be a total fecking nightmare... There are exceptions, of course,..but as a rule, you do need to provide an outlet for such a creature to express himself,...or it will get, emotional.. The herding breeds are not like,..other dogs,...they have been created different,..for a reason... There are far better types to keep as pets...
  3. Hi Dave,..The Test Valley is a real beautiful part of Hampshire.. I've taken a lot of hares and rabbits from that area, over the years.... Welcome to The Hunting Life.. Regards, Phil.

  7. It can be awkward Lee,..but if you persevere with the task,..you will become real slick...and as Tiercel has commented,..don't go too mad at the job,..and bust the meshes of the net,... It can happen if one is over -zealous and I have witnessed a few strong handed men, literally tear a net apart....
  8. Pleased to hear folk being educted as to the correct and most humane ways to dispatch a rabbit,... As hunters, we owe it to our quarry,.whatever it may be,.little or large,...to end its life, as quickly as possible..

  10. Things have changed.. Today. we have MMA , Cage Fighting etc,..but back then,..there was no Martial Arts Council,.no safety requirements and scant allowance made for Health and Safety,...in short, it was crazy as feck... ..but a great time for camaraderie... There are few feelings in life ( and I have experienced many ) that can compare with putting on a nice, crisp clean Gi and stepping out, onto the mat...The 'high' that you get when a hard training session is over,.is on a par with most recreational drugs,..and once you have tasted the buzz of pure exhilaration and that amazing feelin
  11. Folk have been undercutting others and offering to work cheap,...since I first came into Pest Control... Nothing can be done to stop this,...it s simply a fact of life, that we all have to live with...
  12. A good marking dog is essential in a garden situation,..cos without one,.you can be looking in the wrong place,.. for a long time.... As for leaving long nets in situ,.well,.it is a bit of a pipe dream and frequently sounds better than it is...It is easier to get a net into position, and then,.gently walk your jukel through the plants and shrubs and push any hidden conies into your trap.. You have to be extremely careful ,...not to cause more damage than the feckin rabbits ! Gardens are good money,.but they can be awkward jobs to undertake,..a lot can go wrong,.it is not the same as r
  13. Life is far too short, to base your happiness on the performance of a poxy dog...
  14. We have had 'resistance problems' against certain rodenticides, here in Hampshire for several years. It is nothing new...and neither is the annual media exaggeration regarding super rats, seen every year, ad nauseum..
  15. Don't know about introducing snakes to kill the rats.... In my experience,..bringing in one critter, to control another critter,.is often fraught with danger....
  16. True words Matt,..facts are,..nowadays,..it is dangerous, out there...
  17. It must be a wee bit soul destroying..but,..you are a young man, with all your life ahead of ya,.. Don't get too bogged down, in wanting to do something that might not be on the cards,...be adaptable,...and whilst keeping your goal firmly alive, on the back boiler,..maybe , think again,...get yourself into doing something you enjoy,...and remain vigilant for an opportunity. All the best to you,.kind regards, Phil.
