  1. If only,... that wee dog had a bit more prey drive,.eh....
  2. Fully understand your predicament Stephen,..I was a Commercial Pester for many, many years.... Obviously,..in Hospital Wards, food preparation areas..and similar high risk locations,...the rodent pest must be eliminated, by fair means or foul,.and it must be achieved ASAP.... I am realistic enough to accept that fact.... It would be incredibly naive of me, and most certainly hypocritical, to think that my own past does not contain a legacy of dark deeds,..because it does..... However,..these sticky boards, laid for mice and rats,..kill real slow,..and nowadays,..for me,..that is
  3. First saw sticky boards in France,...several dying mice were attached to the boards by their faces,..poor wee feckers looking up at me with bulging dark eyes,..a totaly fecking horrendous and perverted way, to slowly kill any creature...and they are legal,...FFS..
  4. It is illegal to deliberately drown a mammal in the UK... A Kania 2000 trap will definitely dispatch a mink,... I have seen a couple enter the tunnel, and they are soon dead, and I do mean, proper dead...! A wee flick of their tail,..and it is lights out, permanent.... I have also seen Mink in the Fenn Mk6,.. and it did not kill them.... Curiously enough,..and considering my own history with the traps, I have never seen a mink hit a Body Gripper. In theory, this style of killing trap should ,.by its very nature and striking action,.kill the target species, pretty damn quickly
  5. What a nice friendly wee thread to switch onto... Good to hear a young man, extolling the virtues of his canine pal,..without going overboard... When all is said and done,...and all the game we take, is either sold or consumed,...our dogs, are just, our dogs and we should make the most of them, for as long as we can...My lurchers are kept like cosseted pets,...I enjoy having them around, and would still have a whole bunch of fireside mutts and pot lickers ,.monging around the back yard,.even if I never caught another rabbit,..and I don't catch many A life with lurchers, eh...
  6. Used fish heads and bits, and placed them in a half buried, plastic pipe... Drilled a load of holes in the tube and let the odors permeate,.and by feck, did it permeate.. Walked in,.. four seperate runs through the high grass,.and wired them accordingly... The ambush worked a treat,..it was amazingly successful....
  7. I don't know why the authorities seem to have such a problem, with these lethal injections ? Auld Harold Shipman would have jabbed that cruel fecker dead,.. in double quick time...no messing... Personaly,..a bullet, in the back of the head, would be a far better and more positive final solution....
  8. Well done,..love to see folk out with the ferrets and nets.. Watching it,.is the next best thing to doing it..
  9. Sensible comments Bosun... Whilst it is plainly stupid, to breed from a lurcher/terrier that has not satisfied your needs,...I personaly believe that if you know your dogs,.and know your game,..it is favourite to take the plunge and breed from an animal that your rate,..ASAP... I've not had any world beaters,..and I only hunt a few rabbits,.but I have often fancied using a certain dog in the past,..and simply by leaving things too late, I have missed out, big time,.and unfortunately with our unique crossbreeds,..it often takes years to find a comparable specimen... As in most thin
  10. Locally,..Deer are everywhere, they are a fecking pest,...
  11. In all honesty,. I prefer The Kania.... However,..I genuinely believe that any killing trap, should have adequate striking force and a facility to render the chosen target species with a quick and merciful demise...
  12. I like the Doc Trap,..it fires with a fair old wallop and I believe it to be, a genuinely humane, 'humane' trap,...It will certainly kill a Mink
  13. I got sent one to try out,. it is an interesting item...
  14. Hmm,.last time I showed my wee grafters,...I lost the fecking lot,....
  15. Raw Green Tripe is pucka grub for jukels,...and it is great to mix with Lamb bones, chicken carcases, Pig's hearts, Sheeps heads,...rabbits and deer,...etc... It is not high in protein,..but has other qualities,...and only a brave man would dare cook it....feck that for a game of soldiers...
  16. @ The Stig.... Sounds about right...
  17. Would agree with you there... Bert was old school,.same as George Newcombe,.etc.... Both tough cookies in their day,.. and passionate about their tykes,....
  18. Depends on the type of customers you want to work for... If anyone tries to haggle or knock me down on price,..I won't wear it,...no future in it.... I'll have deal,.. if the job includes some good rabbiting,.. or the chance of a run on other things,.but as a rule,.the price is the price,.end of story....Can't remember losing much work, over being too dear,..and as Darcy has stated,..there is more to securing a regular bit of work,.a job that will often lead to more work,.than simply being cheapest on the block...... A successful and long -lived Pester,.. is usually a good communicat
  19. I always look,...trouble is,..I can't remember why I'm looking...
  20. Fully understand your predicament Earth -Thrower,... Not much can be done ,..we just got to keep on,.keepin on....
  21. Interesting data,... Only a fool, chooses to ignore scientific facts and well researched information,.but... It would be equally foolish,.. to ignore one's heart....
  22. Wow,..such beautiful,..purpose bred animals,...truly wonderful...
  23. ........... Guys that are into trapping moles/rabbits for profit, as opposed to sport and recreation ,.are in it,.for the vonga... I've made a living from this game, for a long while and quite frankly,..the bottom line is,..it is real easy to be a busy fool,.and by that I mean,..it is not sensible to be working cheap... Admittedly, you will get plenty of work and be loved by all and sundry,.but a pat on the back,.don't pay the rent... My brief, is always to be fair to the customer/client/farmer,...and do what is agreed,.. no more, no less. If the customer does not want to pay my fee,
  24. Yes I would agree... The original thread starter, has asked the question,.but personally, I would not use a Greyhound over a Sheepdog.... I much prefer to utilise a fast type of lurcher, as opposed to a pure race track dog... Mind you,..when line breeding Collie crosses,..there is often a throw back. She waits quietly in the wings,..so ya best be ready Amazingly enough, if you are only a hedgerow hunter and don't require a lurcher to do 'other tasks',..these blasts from the past ,often work out incredibly well, and are they talked about,.. for years to come...
  25. With this traditional cross,..I feel that the Greyhound blood matters, just as much as the Sheepdog contribution.. The Greyhound can offer a whole lot more to the mix, than just , out and out speed... "Ya get Greyhounds,..and ya get Greyhounds", if ya get my drift... I think anyone who has been around race dogs for any length of time, will say that they have all had their favourites. They always have their special ones,.the dogs that, if they were ever to breed, a first cross Pit lurcher or a Collie cross or a Saluki hybrid,... well,.this is the one I would use,... kinda thing....
