  1. That first one is a lovely picture Millet......
  2. I'm always a hairs breath away, from keeping a pure Herding breed,..it is a desire I have had for many years Herding is simply hunting,..and the Collie types usually take to rabbiting real easily. I will get old Shep some day,...it is only a matter of time...
  3. cant remember writing that That cider must of been good, sorry for any offence it caused @Deerman,...Alcohol and Internet Forums don't mix well,....been there myself, many times....
  4. I once read a book similar to yours, bout a Welsh bloke who lamped a whole load of foxes as they came to feed on a farm midden pile. Nailed 3 or 4 most night's, so the book said. In the snow too. The action must have been fast and furious as he was rarely photographed wearing a coat. Though it must have been cold, them foxes looked stiff as boards. All done with a 'ol mottled marked cur cross. If I could just remember that books title.... Don't you know,.that kind of loose talk is akin to high treason,..how very, very dareth you...
  5. Paulus,..some of us are born loners,..we like it that way
  6. I think all right minded hunting men, abhor the fools who film themselves, participating in unlawful, cruel acts and of course , what has occurred to Dymented's jukel, via the RSPCA is truly horrific....and for that reason I feel confident that my own deeds and words (over the last 50 years) have always strived to set an example to my fellow hunters, to be fair and humane and to show some respect for our dogs, our quarry, and obviously, ourselves...That being said,..I'm sure there are far better men, out there to speak up for our passion than I.....and if folk really do feel there is a need for
  7. You cannot legislate, against a bunch of feckwits or try and appease folk who have no idea, what the game is about... Non hunters will always struggle to understand, the difference twixt us and the divi chavies... I've spent a long time doing my own thing, as have many others.. I already have my code of conduct,...it is up to us all,.. to walk our own path...
  8. Genuine hunting men already have a code of conduct,.it is written deep down, within their heart and soul...Sane and sensible hunters,.. don't require any code or set of rules to adhere to,...we have it sussed..
  9. Sounds about right,...confident but not overly assertive....
  10. Fully agree.. Whilst it pains some folk to think of lazy, no good for nothing feckers, having an easy time,..cashing in off the State and generaly seeming to live, a life of ease,...and the easy solution would appear to be ,"Get em into the Army, knock some fecking sence into em".,.kinda thing.. In reality (in peace time)...it would be a complete and utter waste of fecking time.. I well remember in my youth,...loads of us going along to the Army recruitment centre, and looking at all the jobs that were on offer. For some of my mates it was a chance of a carreer,..and a way out o
  11. Most herding dogs will guard...some more intensely than others.. They are primitive critters and generally fairly protective, of their own space.. Incidentally,..I have walked out with the Kelpie Dam of your lurcher....
  12. Most dogs will readily help you to locate a beast.. lost in woodland. I just ask em,...Where is it ?....and off we all go,...ASAP...
  13. Poor dogs.... However, with the increased percentage of Merle hybrids we have in the lurcher gene pool,..ya gotta be real careful
  14. You are putting a lot of effort in for this most righteous cause,...well done fellah...
  15. Gnasher is right, Battle Dogs fight, because they want to fight,.same as some people... However,..they should have no desire to bite a human,.unless commanded (and conditioned) to do so.... If a canine takes a liking to ragging a man, a woman or a child,..it needs putting in the ground,..ASAP...
  16. Good sensible advice from Vanman there.. Facts are,..the very best working ferrets,..the ones that we all remember and talk about,..even after they have long gone,.. generally have a welcoming tameness,.. with a kitten -like, inquisitive nature and possessed of a friendly demeanour..
  17. Sorry to hear that fellah,..I know the feeling..... Them dogs were always great fun to have around. Good pals,...proper old mouchers curs....
  18. That is a pretty fair enough appraisal of the guy....
  19. Personaly,...I sometimes feel that folk pay too much heed to mathematical equations, percentages, etc,..making the creation of a roustabout hunting dog,..just that wee bit too complicated...
  20. Rather than try and put a pure whippet to a Deerhound,..we found it easier to use a big whippet (generally a Heavyweight, Scratch Dog) over a nice, well balanced Deerhound /Greyhound. At first there was a fair percentage of smooth coats and fairly rapid critters in the litters,.no probs with that, but, back in the day,...we fancied the rough coat look.. By breeding close,..we eventually started to get a high percentage of rough to broken coated types in every litter. They were beautiful things,..definite show stoppers and were much in demand by the showing fraternity... The mix of Whippet
