  1. AS you know,....same as several other mole trappers,...I was concerned about the width of the jaw spacing and accordingly,..fancied trying a wider trigger system,...but, after extensive field testing,.I now find the trap to be perfectly adequate..My daily catch rate is satisfactory,...and I have not experienced many rejection problems, or fired and sprung traps...Sometimes I think we can get a wee bit too complicated over things....
  2. History tells us... "Where there is game to pursue,..there will be hunting dogs (and hunting men)..to pursue it"
  3. @ Papi Joe.... now he really is,...a funny guy...
  4. This is an interesting, if somewhat theoretical topic...
  5. No Geth,...that particular ship sailed,..several decades ago... Nowadays,..I only keep a wee bush buster,...I don't need sheer speed.....
  6. Hi Cocker,...yes, Rch Country Music played a part in the breeding of many modern lines of Hard Blood racing whippets...I was the first to use him at Stud... Nice dog, nice owner,...great days...
  7. It's a strange thing,...but I have found,...when you use your dogs as part of your living,..as a Sheepdog, Gundog,..or even as a Pest Controllers ,.marking/catch dog, etc.....you start to look at the situation in a different manner....Facts are,...you need the dog to help you do the job,...and like most employees, it don't pay to feck them up, bully 'em,..or engage in a battle of wills with them.... To do so is time wasting... . Personaly,.if a critter doesn't want to work for me,...with me,...I terminate his employment. Men who go through their lives, blaming this or that breed,
  8. Hmm,..you would think that was the case....and as much as I respect my dear friend Vin and his rabbiting partner Tomo,....and the beauty and splendour of the Dales, never fails to move me,...but,....I always long for the ancient woodlands, ferreting under the mighty Oak's mysterious roar,...and standing behind those deep chalk warrens, high on the South Downs ,..a hundred burrows dug by generations of long dead rabbits,...and the miles of hedgerow, riddled with holes, that are part and parcel, of the Hampshire commercial Partridge shoots..... Yes, I know its illogical,...and most keen ferr
  9. Valid point there fellah.... When I used to keep a better class of running dog,...I always tried to 'keep it in the family',.so to speak... In fact, I am still walking a similar path today, albeit just using my own pet/worker , cur bred jukels... I have always felt, that once you have near enough what you need in a breed,...why rock the boat,...stick to what you know and try to maintain those particular working/hunting qualities, that serve you well,... Facts are, some guys are optimistic triers,.they try this, they try that.... The end result often results in them going rou
  10. C'mon now,...all I said was, "I don't fancy men in Flecktarn".....
  11. This is a versatile mix of lurcher that I favour... They suit my ground, and are ideal, for the woodland brash and miles of hedgerow buries, that require ferreting. I only hunt rats'n rabbits these days,..so not too concerned, about other quarry
  12. I've handled that Pit Bull Pug,...never,.. felt such a solidly built,.... powerful predator.. He truly epitimises my own,.much quoted statement,..."Bolt or Die"....
  13. Yeah,...I wondered why he never did that Flecktarn jacket up,...I thought the zip must be broken....
  14. I had traveled North last weekend, with my pal Paul... We have been ferreting together for the last two seasons and to be honest, he has been a good friend to me. So,...I thought it might be nice to repay his friendship, with a walk out amidst some high country, with two genuine Goodfellas, Tomo, and Vin... Paul brought along Swifty, one of my home bred cur crosses, which I had gifted to him, a couple of seasons ago. Locally,..we have to hunt over scores of long hedgerows that divide the commercial pheasant and partridge shoots,...sometimes we get to work up on the Southern Downland ch
  15. Hmm,..I think ya got to treat silly fecker type clients ,.who abuse you,...same as you would anyone else in life...Never be used.... Tell them, to go feck themselves,..then move on,..its a big old world,..plenty of good people out there.....
  16. I work alongside the missus,...she helps me get the traps down on the first day,...then for the rest of the week,.. I walk alone... I just have my wee cur bitch following at heel,...we have some good old chats... Never been much of a team player....
  17. Now THAT,.is what I call a photo.....
  18. Tilimangro,....the biggest incentive to succeed in this ole trapping game, is when you can get a fair remuneration for your services... In my opinion,....if you intend to work in the Guildford area ....with its close location to Suburbia and lovely trapping ground,...well,.you are indeed one lucky fellah....If you publicise yourself well and become proficient at the game,..you should do extremely well £££
  19. Well,.as can be seen,...the dog in question shows definite Bedlington Terrier characteristics,...both in his looks and general demeanour...He was also, very antagonistic towards vulpines,...don't know why,.but he was...He was keen on them when they showed in the beam, and he shook, rattled and rolled,.. more than a few Moucher was also extremely willing to get into cover,...and he would break through a thick hedgerow at the slightest sign of something hiding within. All in all,.I liked him,...he had great character... But,...I am far keener on the herding composites,...I find that I g
  20. I can only sympathise, with any man who wishes to change his lifestyle,..and become a successful Mole Trapper Personaly,..I would perhaps recruit a helper to do the hard sell for me,....maybe join a tried and tested website,..such as www.mole-catcher.co.uk/....
  21. Hi Boyo,...no that's not him... Moucher was a Greyhound /Beddy x Greyhound/Collie....
  22. In my opinion,...it takes a while to get sorted in the trapping game,....and unfortunately,...one often has to experience the bad times,..before the good times kick in.... In reality it is often down to,...survival of the canniest...
