  1. Message recieved,...it will be done, over and out...
  2. Big shout out to fellow Hunting Life member, Flipper Al Long story short,....a few weeks ago,..my PC was hit with the infamous, Locky Ransomeware Virus.... Locky sounds to be a cheerful wee thing, but in reality,..it is the C*nt of C*nts... The ransomware encrypted an entire new book, plus 3000/4000 photos,...it was emotional... I am no Ernest Hemingway when it comes to the writing game,..but I try... Should I have backed everything up,...yes in hindsight,..of course I should,..but in reality, I didn't.. So,.I was left pretty well cleaned out,...everything gone,...n
  3. Well done fellah For me,..in my line of work,...Temperament is King.... I can sort out most every other thing,...but a canine pal that has problems,...can make the job impossable... It is a sad fact, but in today's society,..life is often loud, and noisy. The days rush by in a whirlwind of activity, and a modern lurcher needs to be capabul of fitting in... Wait for a bold, brash pup,...one who looks the world,.. straight in the eye.....
  4. Fully agree,...I've bred Deerhound lurchers myself,..and although the Whippet route did produce some mini-Deerhounds,..the best way is to continualy breed,..lurcher to lurcher ,.working on the smaller, more compact, well balanced examples until the size levels out at around about the 24"/25" mark..
  5. Come on you keen Hunting Life rabbiteers,..lets get all these young bloods into good homes...
  6. All different as chalk and cheese,...but no complaints...
  7. Bound to be a bit of variation in size,...but for roustabout ferreting/rabbiting dogs,..this litter should be just right..
  8. The Whippet will make its mark,.they always do.
  9. When Sooty Sam is in the bloodline ...an occasional wee 'un is often on the cards..
  10. The Countryman from http://www.bjsherriff.co.uk/ does me just fine,.....
  11. I've travelled all over the World,....often in places that I should not have been in.... But, one of my most treasured memories was when me and Rosy spent time in the West Coast of Scotland.... We made the journey up one side of the country, to wild and remote Caithness,..then returned slowly back home, via the West Coast... I can honestly say,..it was a beautiful experience,...full of events,..in fact,..it is worthy of a chapter in a book....
  12. Jumping is an essential attribute for any working dog,...be he a Herder, a lurcher or a Retriever,....but,..ya got to be sensible... In my opinion,....(having taken a fair bit of saleable game),...there ain't a critter on God's earth,. worth gutting your valuable Jukel for,..and that's the truth. So, if my hedgerow hunters can manage to squeeze through or scrabble under an obstacle,.then that suits me fine,..but if they have to jump a fence or gate, they need to know their limitations and have the required experience and physicality, to safely achieve the leap... When you work dogs
  13. Yeah,..they learn nothing sat in the kennel/garden,...I like to let them run free,...and what will be, will be...
  14. Hi Dan,...I think the type of Jukel you are thinking of, would be a Kannichorer,..(Kannies being Pheasants or domestic fowl)...
  15. This is an easy first cross to produce...however,..in my opinion,....the end result generally results in a critter that is little more than a mongelised whippet. If the hybrid, favors the Collie,..then you loose out on the Whippets speed,...and if the end result leans towards the Whippet,..then you often say goodbye, to the sagacity and canny ways of the herder.... This can sometimes be overcome by using the large heavyweight , non-ped 'Scratch Racers ' specialist bred speedsters, that have Greyhound blood, flowing through their veins,...but,.having tried and bred, several litters of straigh
  16. Sean,..that sure is some fabulous hunting ground you have there... I love to let the dog work through reeds and rushes, after the rabbits, hares and pheasants..
  17. Do you do a lot of pesty work Phil also? Moles, rats and other species? It's something I've often thought about doing. I know a couple of lads who do it full time and seem to do ok. Maybe one day eh Atb Hi,.yes, I used to treat ALL the common nuicence pests,..Cockroaches, Bed Bugs, Rats, Mice,..etc, etc... I did thirty years , servicing Restaurants , Pubs,Leisure Centres,..Nudist Camps,..you fecking name it... Then,..I sold off all my Pest Control contracts and went full time,. on the rabbits... I did this for many years, until my situation and health changed,.then I went mole tr
  18. Moles running riot,..loads of work coming in,....but,..experience has taught me that, sooner or later, I have to say no... The Wasp season will soon be upon us and it is uneconomical to be working traps when the phone is ringing non-stop.... There has to be a cut off point and unless a real plump and juicy Manor House lawn job or a chance of some Winter rabbit work is on the cards,..I am afraid the moles will have to take a back seat,. and the DR5 must take precedence over the Putange.. Bees,..constant panic calls from folk,..being troubled by swarms of Wasps...and as DIDO so rightly says,
  19. Good luck to all the wee hunters,..Inshalah they all find, good perminant homes and live long and happy lives...
  20. If any man wants a genuine roustabout lurcher,...I would advise them to put their hand in their pocket,... and purchase one of these pups....
  21. Not this time,...I've lived the life,..chanced my arm,...and pushed my luck,.so many times,...but sooner or later, Lady Luck deserts ya,... NO going back on this one.....Locky Ransomeware got me, fair and square.
  22. I genuinely feel for you Skycat My own predicament is on similar lines,...unfortunately,...in my case,...same as the Hare,.."I am fecked, and I do mean,..proper fecked" An entire book,..(ready for the typesetter), plus 5000 images,...all my memories,...half my life....gone,..forever.... At this moment in time,...I think that is me, done and dusted,....time to move on,....time to say goodbye.... I wish you well, and hope and pray that you retrieve your valuable memories... All the best, Phil.
  23. You are spot on there Bobba,...absolute politics,..nothing more than that.... I sympathise with your predicament on the Moor,....we have a similar situation darn sarf on some wild bird shoots... As you know,.when you've Grouse and Grey Partridge to protect....Stoats can be a big old problem... Not quite sure how all this Fenn business is going to pan out,....
  24. Collie lurchers, are amongst the most varied of all the various lurcher hybrids... When they are good,...they are very, very good,.but when they are bad,..by feck,... they are bad.. Personaly,..I like to keep mine for the bushing/hedgerow/ferreting game,..they seem to take to this job well
