  1. "as a wee post script, my 1st collie x came from a tenement flat in castlemilk in glasgow (i think at the time the biggest housing estate in europe), the bitch and pups were shut in a cupboard, a deerhound x was chained under the sink to stop it killing the pups, the place was like bosnia, i wasn't much more than a silly schoolboy and didn't know better but that was way long ago before hancock had started" That is a gruesome tale of woe there Birdog
  2. Goodonya for standing by your wee mate... All the best to you, and much respect....regards, Phil.
  3. Not interested in what other breeders do,...that is their affair,..not mine... However,..having spent a fair bit of time around the subject of this thread,..I would reiterate my original statement ,..that many of the customers I saw, purchasing young lurchers from that source,.would have been a good choice as future custodians of my own pups.... Many of them had travelled from afar, and were keen as mustard, and willing to listen as to how best, to treat their new purchases.. As an aside,...I do not give pups to anyone who I believe, would not do their best for them,...and that is
  4. It is great to read how proud and pleased that you are, with your new pal,...and I'm sure we all wish you well, for the future. However,...it is a fact,. that lurchermen,...as a type,.. ....really are,..different.... We all walk our own paths,.and do what we fecking want,...that is what differentiates us from other field sports enthusiasts... Fitness is essential for any working dog,..but we all go about the task,.. in different ways,... All the best, Phil..
  5. Everyone is entitled to an opinion,...and that is the truth,....and same as most,..I have mine..... However,..what I would say, is that the majority of lads and lassies who purchase these animals,..often seem to have a real loyalty, towards their chosen hybrid, and to the person, who sold it to them... I am only a casual breeder of cur types,..choosing to produce a few pups for my own use,.as and when needed,.but I have always felt that the folk who travel all over the UK, to secure a new member of the pack,..and ocassionaly..accept whatever shortcomings or problems that they may enco
  6. Good to see you in good fettle Country Joe,.but as you know,.this is a debate that could run forever
  7. Good post Walshie...and a good idea... I remember several years back,.an impromptu meeting up, of dozens of members from the, once great, Moochers UK Hunting forum. Nothing had been officialy planed or arranged,..it just seemed to happen... What I can say with some certainty,..having met a lot of hunting men over the last 50 years is,.."Nothing beats a face to face,.to clear the air, and put things into perspective".... Folk always fear what they don't understand and it is great to put things right, address various problems and misunderstandings ,..and then,..hopefully,.move on.
  8. Please send Country Joe my very best wishes,...
  9. A different colour for you David..
  10. Some beautiful Merle coloured lurchers there fellas I've always liked these unusually marked types,...may have a fair few, spotted 'un's,.. in a few weeks time...
  11. Fair play...I meant no offence,...but,..the laws that apply to a Middle Eastern society,.. are not suitable for a UK populace,...because,.. as a race,..we are totally different..... However, my apologies,..I am no politician,..and my interest is solely,.. in the hunting field... All the best,..PL.
  12. Hi,..firstly,.many thanks for your most courteous request.... The answer to your query is realy quick and simple,... Back in the 80s and 90s,..I was rabbit catching on a full time basis,..mostly employed to clear woodland tracts and other places. Some weeks, by dint of ferrets, nets, dogs and traps,..I would be taking several hundred rabbits.. The ferreting job was often carried out, amidst debris and brash, factory wastelands, building development plots,..etc, etc..and I needed lurchers that had the physical and mental attributes to cope with some fairly ridiculous scenarios To
  13. Dogs are like men,...some definitely need correction,..and some don't....
  14. Some lovely, workmanlike dogs there lads.. I used to keep a much heavier, chunkier type of rabbiting lurcher, (bred from Cattle Dogs), and they served me well. Nowadays, I tend to use a racier, Greyhound/Collie/Whippet mix.. They are a bit more accident prone in woodland,..but we get by.... All the best, PL. Greyhound x Cattle Dog
  15. Those who have not fully understood the rabbit catching business,..(and it is a business)...would not appreciate the luxury of turning up on a job with a team of dogs and ferrets , (and human compatriots), that really do know the game,...and the facts are,.such a requisite is priceless.... Good luck to the red ferret,..and lets hope this operation does not halt her career... All the best, PL.
  16. For me,...if a lurcher doesn't hunt up his quarry (when asked)....then I feel cheated,....
  17. Hi,.I caught most things with Moucher,..but,I've not kept many male lurchers,.. and our personalities clashed... He was also a wee bit excitable in woodland,..and hyper people and hyper dawgs,.. make for a heady mix... I gave him away to a close pal,. and he had a great life,...I'm pleased,...he deserved it....
  18. Love the Beddies,...they are superb hunting dogs,.great nose,..almost like a hound
  19. God almighty,... This country gets more frightening every fecking day....
