  2. Don't know the 'In's and outs ' of canine physicality,...but,..with mouching type curs,..I always hark back to what might occur in the wild.. Wherebye,..you get it sorted,. or go fecking hungry Your wee jukel (if given plenty of opportunity) will no doubt adapt its running style to any problems. Practice, practice, practice....
  3. We was working on a big shooting estate a while back,.just clearing the rabbits out of some long hedgerows,..and I suppose we must have seen 90/100 hares running around the fields. It was good to see so many,..but they were a bit of a pain, where our dogs were concerned... No matter how hard I tried to keep the dogs back on the warren,.they kept hunting them up... and the black tips were constantly ending up in the stop nets ... I explained this to the keeper,.and he said to me, "Listen, I don't mind you spinning over a dozen or so,.but these hares planed off and fecked up, all the cov
  4. Well,.. I felt sorry for them poor old porkers,...especially that wee willy winkie guy,...he was a pitiful, runty kinda critter....

  6. In my experience,...the first cross Collie / Greyhound hybrid can either be your ideal hunting partner,..or correspondingly, your worst Personaly,..I prefer to keep a noticeable Sheepdog influence in my rabbiting aids,...but maybe, water it down, ..just a tad.
  7. ....the Gin was created to hold,..and trust me, hold... it fecking did.... Many folk,.continued to use the Gin trap long after it was banned... I went with my Father, on many occasions to check the traps,.. and hauled on the chains,... The Conibear is a 'Kill Trap' ....and if the target species enters the trap, as the trapper intends,..then it will kill...
  8. We had the same performance from the 'testing boards' and commitees,.-when the Bodygrippers were brought in... The Conibear ,.as a type,..has been well tested for years in Canada and the States,...so,..why all the time wasting posturing from our governing bodies...To be honest,..all the waiting and wondering,.whilst these guys were playing silly buggers with traps that were already proven to be effective,..was an expensive and worrying time... My partner and myself had devoted a fair amount of time, money and energy into the project,.and just when the traps were going to be accepted,...t
  9. Such a heartwarming response from all you lurcher guys,. Big respect to J.Dog and The Stig
  10. Disregarding the emotive issues and arguments, for and against, the various humane spring traps that are currently available,....the facts are,...there is not enough money involved, in traps to warrant any canny entrepreneur investing his hard earned vonga, in such a project. I no longer control public health pests, rats,.mice, feral pigeons,.etc....and today,.my target species are rabbits and moles...and unfortunately,... where rabbits exist in massive quantities,.Dales, Fells, moorland, etc,...the owners are not willing to endlessly pay out large amounts of cash to get them killed...In

  12. Moss was owned by Barry Sharp,..and also owned Beth,..and they produced Rufus .... I favoured this line of Collie,..and regarded the progeny derived from it, to be a much needed improvement....
  13. Considering how well documented the subject is, there is still an amazing amount of 'confused.com' quotes, and hearsay,. doing the rounds, ad infinitum.....

  15. It is, a dog eat dog world out there,...and I learned my lessons the hard way a long time ago,... So, unless in the company, of close and trusted friends,...I follow the maxim for survival, in an already overcrowded profession ...... IE..... "Don't tell nobody anything,..just keep your head down, do your own thing,..and keep fecking stoom"
  16. Ive not seen a whole lot of Saluki types,..but,.those that I have watched working/coursing,..have been amazingly varied.
  17. "If I was wanting to breed a lamp dog , I would get the best dog in my area doing well on similar ground which i plan to run on & put it to my bitch".. Some valid points there Giro...
  18. Please give us poor elderly folk, an honest account of the contents,..if it is educational,.I shall start saving for a copy. Many thanks,.Chalkwarren.. My copy arrived today. I read it while I munched my lunch in a layby. Yes, it is that brief. I think it's clearly aimed at the complete novice, and gives clear and concise instruction in the use of Talpex style traps and the Duffus. Lots of B&W photos, and some bollocks, but then I suppose that's par for the course these days. I'm a sucker for any mole related media, but I'm afraid it's not a book I would recom
