Real interesting replies,.. Tell ya what,..even in late June,..all this rabbiting chat, has made me long for the Autumn/Winter,...it is fecking criminal realy,.wishing my life away,..but,..I'm sure all the ferreters/mouchers, out there,. get my drift...

Personaly,..I think we often take this 'from working parents' ,..a wee bit too far.... Obviously ,.when you have got a good line going,..it is sensible to keep on,.keepin on,... But ,..if you decide to start your own type,.from scratch,.be it a Pure Deerhound or a Sheepdog,..Bull Blood,.whatever,..you often have to accept a bit of compromise... Working blood has got to be favourite,..OBVIOUSLY,...however,..somebody, somewhere has to take the plunge, be the first, and when they have done so,..and produced a sane and sensible, capable critter, it is then up to the keenest of the keen, to test

Personaly,...I like to get on with the job,..and I have found that waiting around, after netting up, to be counter productive,.even more so,.. on deep warrens.... I don't like to give rabbits, too much time to think,...

Love it,..real nice post Ideation.. I've spent YEARS,...just monging, mouchin and generally being a wanderer,.....simply having a relaxed walk out, armed with a few keen jukels,....and in my opinion,.there is no sport to compare with it .. This kind of activity suits the very young,..and is still ideal for the very old... No rules or regulations,..no pressure,....just having the craic.... Got a lifetime of tales to tell,....but I need time to do so,.and these days,,.time is running out fast.. . Great to hear about such things though,.please continue lads..

The Whippets that I have seen ,..bred down from MB's types,..have been similar to the big strong, powerhouse rabbiting dogs, that we had back in the 1970s/1980s...Such animals were the firm favourite of most local mouchers.....I like em...

Is Stamina An Issue In Your Lurcher?
Phil Lloyd replied to Simoman's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Well, I am all out of puff,...FFS... The bottom line is,...'talk is dirt cheap',...and all the theorising in the world won't make up for a long hard night,.. of practical.... I remember hearing the same script decades ago,...and I've lost count of the men who have said, 'My dog has got amazing stamina, resilience, fantastic strike',.etc,.etc,..and I would love to see how he goes on a place that is teeming with rabbits'.. My answer today, would be the same as it was back then,...'Well,..put your troubled mind to rest, once and for fecking all and go out and try it,..and then you wi -
Is Stamina An Issue In Your Lurcher?
Phil Lloyd replied to Simoman's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Sometimes a trip to the Dales, the Fells or some other well stocked area, can leave an indelible mark upon a man,.and his dog I'm not a lamping man these days,.but I once was .... We used to find that visitors with dogs,..invariably experienced difficulty in getting into the swing of things, and it would have been grossly self indulgent, to imagine that our own lurchers, well used to the workload put in front of them on a regular basis,.were in some way superior or special.. The truth is, they were not,..for both dog and master, knew the land intimately and were not phased by the inf- 96 replies

Well I don't make nets,.tried it several times,..but always felt that there are so many keen and gifted lads, that can do the job so much better than I ever could,...it just seemed stupid to waste good twine, on a useless fecker like me However,..what I do know,.. is that the repair of a hand made, antique Persian carpet is often far harder, than its original construction,...so I should imagine patching up an old long net, could be a job for an extremely patient artisan Beyond me,.that's for sure...

Ray,..for fecks sake,.chill out man.. .. My mate keeps quality race dogs,..and I do mean,.top class stuff,...and we was out walking them, when two girt great 'Bull Bloods' came rushing at us....They fecking meant business,.and were out for blood. Obviously my mate was trying to get the whippets up off the floor ,.in an effort to protect them,..and I can tell ya, it got a wee bit emotional.. As dog men,..we all know when trouble is coming and take appropriate steps to protect our valuable lurchers,.but the general public do not understand hunting dogs,..and get worried.... It is gonna

Hi fellah,..yeah, shit invariably happens,..if ya foolish enough to let it,... Not giving up the rabbiting game,.cos, for me, it ain't really a game,.. Truth is, I do depend upon a few months ferreting/trapping work here and there, if only to keep me in Red Wine and Jalfrezi.... However,..I'll not bother keeping any ferrets in my own yard,..I feel they are best kept, safe and sound, up the road,..in a more secure location... Thieving ain't nothing new,..it will always be with us,..as will jealousy, back biting bitchiness, etc...

There are some serious looking jukels on show here,...roll on the season,..and good luck to everyone,.whatever your chosen quarry...

What Lurcher X Wouldn't You Keep ?
Phil Lloyd replied to **Lurcherman**'s topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Don't think there is any type of lurcher that I wouldn't keep,...I quite like em' all Obviously, it pays to keep something, that you have a use for,.but,.. I find most crossbreeds interesting... What I do regret, is not having such a fabulous choice, of top quality blood available, when I was a young man... -
It does seem strange that lads wishing to use a genuine Collie/Greyhound stud, or who fancy owning a Collie lurcher have not beaten a path to your door,.or indeed to the doors of other men, who regularly work and use such jukels... I suppose this only goes to show, the amazing power and influence,.. of advertising,...
