So these are your heros testing their dogs ?
OldPhil replied to SheepChaser's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Poor bemused critter.... Each to there own, but I would be most reluctant to ever leave my dog behind, unless it was dead....? -
Great to see some new books out on the fabulous Lurcher? Its been a hard old year with the Covid, and I think we could all do with a bit of Xmas cheer. Stay safe now lads,.. kind regards, OldPhil?

Honest looking brace there Butty? I've used all sorts for a bit of mouching over the years, and enjoyed the sport immensely. All I have today is a small Whippet /Collie hybrid which I bred for hedgerow rabbiting.. Obviously, she ain't up to much, compared with dogs who are more physically gifted, but we do have some grand old sport..?

Superb,..so inspiring and good to see...?

Back in the day,...? the cheapest option was sheep's heads, and my dogs thrived on them...

Wow,.. that's a corker of a dog...?

You will enjoy the company of Whippet Racers..? Some are incredibly competitive and take things very seriously,...they are generally the ones who get to make up, Racing Champions, etc... But, on the whole, whippet enthusiasts are a grand bunch to be around and a race meeting is frequently a day out, for all the family.. I spent many warm Summers on the track, and experienced loads of piss taking and light hearted banter, as my cobby wee rabbiting dogs,.. all galloped in last? Halcyon Days,..?

Nice post Andy...? Every time this happens to me,...(and it has occurred many times, over my last 60 seasons...) I am always reminded of Kipling's words... He wrote,..."Never give your heart to a dog to tear"...? A canny piece of script,...but we never learn from it, do we.... Onwards and upwards, Brother,....all the best, stay safe, OldPhil.?

Fantastic style of daytime hunting,...and as you say,.. great memories...?

Yes,.. I would have to agree,...it is really good fun...?

? I've never been in a war zone, I've never been, 'under fire' and never had to face the trauma that a member of the Armed Forces, could be put under,..but,..as a civvy (and a pensioner to boot) .. I would have no problem in being protected and defended, by any fighting man in uniform....regardless of his race or colour... He can be Black, White, or fecking Polka Dot for all I care....?

Fox snaring, Glen waters latest book
OldPhil replied to MR TEA POT's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
LONG, long,.. overdue..? Let's all wish him well, and good sales... Glenn, has served his time, learned his craft, suffered many fools, and an army of plagiarists.. Stay safe, Sensei Waters....? -
Unfortunately true...? Facts are,.. whether a man and his running dawg are ultra polite and show the utmost respect,.. the Farming community (and the UK Law itself),.. will not allow the pursuit of Hares with gazehounds, to flourish... So, as a one time rural rebel myself, I can understand hunting men who say, 'feck you' and continue to indulge in their passion. Such characters feel as though they have nothing to lose,.so they behave in the manner that they suppose they are expected to behave in.. In truth, they work darn hard at playing the part...? Personally, I will alw

Yeah, I'm of a similar mind set..? I only do a wee bit of Mouching after the odd rabbit and Roe, so I don't really need much of a performance dog or high class jukel... I just use a roustabout cur, and live in hopes? Certain colours attract me,.. don't know WHY,.. but, I stopped trying to figure it out, many years ago? Spots or Speckles,...I find them all,...interesting.... Stay safe now lads,...kind regards, OldPhil.?

THE GIN TRAP , Was it any good ???//
OldPhil replied to micky's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
This also happens when rabbits and hares, hit a wire,...ya got to get, out and about , or the early bird will take your catch...? -
Lovely to see,.. just my cup of tea...? Inshallah, there is still some time left, for me and a Collie, to walk the fields and woods together..?
-
Years ago, when I was a youth,...(I did say, years ago)....,nobody that I knew, kept a dog if it had no worth... Why would you,..? Life was hard enough,. who the feck wants a passenger in their yard? SO,...why would any sane man keep a dog that might turn into a man biter.... How did things ever come to this...?

I am the same as you fellah...? It ain't much fun waking up most mornings in pain,...kind of fecks your life up a tad. I started getting aches and pains a few years back, and I now suffer badly with Osteoarthritis. My hands are pretty bad, and some days I struggle to even neck a rabbit! It seems as though every time I get a few good days, and get down and dirty and take on a wee job,. I invariably pay the price a day or so later. Its a bummer really, because it is hard to accept invitation for trips out hunting, because you don't quite know how you are going to feel in a we

? Sounds a canny method to assist in the management of performance dogs, and similar high flyers...? I like a wee bit of schooling in a jukel,.. I've always found it to be great fun early on, and pretty darn essential when, out and about in the field.. Lots of tricks, treats and devious schooling methods to choose from,.. but as we all know, different situations call for different ways of training.. That's the real secret....? Enjoy your dogs Brothers,...stay safe, regards, OldPhil.?

Well done, for stepping in, biting the bullet and saving your pal from too much pain...? You will be feeling low, but things will get better,...trust me, I know? RIP Bryn...?

Ideal catch placement,... for a quick kill?

Good on ya for remembering your pal....?
