  1. Lots of confusion about the Antipodean herding breeds...? Folk (even today) still get confused twixt Black and Tan, Huntaways and Kelpies....different dogs, specifically bred for different tasks... Its a shame that when the Collie lurcher boom was at its height, in the 1990's ,. that the wordsmiths of that time did not seek to offer some education and information regarding all the various pastoral breeds...I suppose on reflection,..it did not suit their needs,...and they did not possess the required practical knowledge, to pass such valuable data on....? Luckily, there are now p

Poaching illicit game back then could have got you chucked out of your house, so owning pugs and cur dogs was a risky business. His were kept in a quiet place behind the stables...I'll never forget the beautiful snow-white coats on his tiny Bitch ferrets.. He called them Does and the large dog ferret, a Buck....never forgot that either...?
  5. Nice old-style running dog Alex?.... I've had several Deerhound based lurchers over the years,...great fun, loved them all..?
  6. ? As a youth, I never understood the term poacher,..I thought that anything we could catch from the fields and woods, belonged to the man that took it... Obviously, as time went by, I learned different...? Dogs are great for certain tasks, but for ground game, the wires were always favorite...Rabbits, Hares, Pheasants and Deer all succumbed to the hangman's noose. Plus factor was, "Ye ain't got to feed a snare"....?
  7. Hi, just managed to get onto the site....it has been,..emotional ?
  8. I believe the original Kelpie may well have had, Dingo blood in its makeup ?
  9. The Lurcher, Jack of all trades, Master of none...?
