  1. That sounds a great way of life fellah? I'me a retired old guy, but I still do four months on the Wasps during the Summer,.. then I trap the moles in the Springtime. I still like to travel around the country in the late Autumn /Winter time, meeting interesting folk and playing around just hunting up a few rabbits..I never take many, just enough for some sport for the dogs. Locally, here in the South, we do not have the shushis in large numbers anymore, so unless I get asked to clear a particular place (for cash)..I pretty much leave them alone. I've killed more than enough...?
  2. I've had several Bedlington lurchers over the years,..good honest animals,..no complaints. One or two examples seemed to take to the rougher end of our game, and acted accordingly,..but for myself, I've only ever used them to help out with ferrets, or work under the spotlight. My favourite hybrids came via the Rillington Bedlington Terrier influence. I found that George's dogs, due to their crossbreeding with Border and Lakeland terriers, often sported a thicker, crisper jacket,..not all of course, but some of them. I preferd this type of coat on the Bedlington lurcher, although one of
  3. Superb, erudite post, penned with a passion born of genuine experience in the field....just as it should be...?
  4. I'm of the same mind fellah? When I was catching up the Roe, we didn't have to run very many at night to bag up,..consequently, other than bad luck on the flint, we seemed to get away without knocked up toes when running the Deerhound types.. However, when I started doing the rabbit control job, I was out with nets and ferrets most days and lamping often nights as well... Some 'sensitive' jobs had to be undertaken after dark , so the rabbiting dogs often took a real hammering due to the constant chases. I just kept fecking their feet up....it was a disaster? It was then that
  5. ? So, if anyone puts up a picture of a young dog, from back in the day,..do they have to include an image of the quarry that was legal to pursue, at the time... Can't we just post an image ....?
  6. I bred some real useful Bedlington Lurchers in the 1990s,..nice and easy to live with...?
  7. Lovely images,..stay safe Brother...?
  8. Cymag and Phostoxin are cruel and wicked potions....I've used both on rabbits (and other miscellaneous exotics) back in the day.?.. Thank God , I repented of my sins,...and went 100% 'natural'...?
  9. Gillian has a real nice eye for working type dogs. She has done pictures for quite a few lurcher and gundog owners locally.?

  14. Alan, you sound like an old style freelancer to me? I like pheasants,..we just rip the breast off and use them in all manner of interesting dishes.. Mind you,..I do prefer a good curry over most scran..?
  15. Hi Chris, given the county that you are intending to work in,..I would think seriously about some kind of whippet based hybrid.? I catch a few rabbits in East and West Sussex, and as you know, it is extremely heavily wooded... Such a terrain can sometimes harbour good amounts of conies,..and the facts are, when you are rabbiting in ditch bottoms, deep old hedgerows. brash, etc, there is no need for a very large jukel...As for keeping your rabbit dog as a family pet,..well, I've always liked my dogs around me , and as long as your chavies are fully aware that it is a dog, and not a t
