Big believer in using your head. you can tell when a pup's ready for a bit more or needs holding back a bit. I think you know when it's something you spend everyday with it.
I think it's the most overlooked asset in a good dog. most look at speed, stamina, strike, etc, but a good marking dog really is worth it's place in any kennel.
this type of mutt are getting more popular for good reason. mooch about they will mark holes, Bush, rabbits etc. take the odd ones in cover. pick up the odd pheasant, partridge, duck. tree squirrels for shooting with the catapult, kill a few rats. and they don't look suspicious when do gooders pass you?.
I have had big dogs in the past but only had whippet x for years. I don't need anything bigger. always planned on a three quarter cross next, but find myself getting more interested in a good working whippet.
people will pay the inflated price because majority of pups go to pet homes. working homes are the minority now......jemima and Johnny love a lurcher to acompany there barbour and hunter wellies.
she certainly looks like she knows her job ?. your right about hares, best avoided. my little beddywhippet is at them regularly hard to avoid them here. she can't catch them but stays on them, had a few close ones with roads.
Sunday night used to be good in the pub, lot of lads would discuss the days ferreting, bushing etc, I seldom talk about working dogs, hunting etc, outside of here, sad thing is the world sees people like us as something of a pariah.
trev certainly puts the effort in, and I like how he rates his dog's he tells how it is good or bad. I accepted no decent numbers long ago. it's a mooch and at best 2 or 3 rabbits were dog marks, and single Jill in. it still gets the old heart going when I hear rabbit bumping about to bolt. it never leaves you?
looking like the jill did it's job. I know you are getting amongst plenty all season, but how do you rate her as a marking dog trev compared with some of your other dogs over the years?
just spent a few days in Lincolnshire, absolutely riddled with them. no wonder it's the mecca of the coursing boys. my little beddywhippet didn't do much to worry them?
bang on there mate. my father lived in a council bungalow, everyone around him payed nothing he paid full everything as his pit pension put him just over the threshold. took me ages but I finally got him a rent rebate one Friday and he died following Tuesday...... sods fxxxcking law
