  1. that's a hell of a dog. nothing compares to the specialist bred coursing dogs, unbelievable stamina. for me I like to see a little speedster catch it or miss it in the 1st 200 yards. but I am a mooch about old fart not a coursing lad.
  2. I ended up settling on 23/18. .65 precise and sumeike. plenty powerful for pigeons, squirrel, etc. and no hand tremble, and I have wrists like a fxxxcking poofter, so must be good.
  3. I have always believed some dogs do, and some don't, it's that simple.
  4. started saving up for a whippet pup for when I retire...... I am only 22
  5. it's a bit like boxing. trying to compare fighters of years ago to today. traditional dogs to today's dogs, different land different farming, different laws, it's not possible.
  6. Wouldn’t have thought of that. can see what you mean about experimenting.
  7. Good shooting Mr Wilkes ?. isn't .9 a bit overkill for 9.5mm steel?
  8. John piggin owned him, he was from around this area.
  9. a lot used piggins liver dog Floyd ?
  10. I think they would believe anything they were told. he looked to small to me.
  11. ye of little faith. it's a new style of hunting, waiting till all in one corner before steaming in?
  12. I always thought the same. apparently Alfred was a beddy greyhound.
  13. been holidaying in Wales for years, hardly seen a rabbit.. till now. was there 3 weeks ago and a spot there had numbers like I haven't seen since the 80s. it was driving little dog mad she jumped out of car window at one stage. Great to see the numbers?
  14. you need that bit of height for running. my little beddywhippet is 18 1 /2tts.she thrives in hedgerows, brambles, ditches, etc. but straight running she certainly lacks gears. often in rough ground gets unsighted. that's why I am having a pup to work alongside her. choice is a whippet or breed my own three quarter cross.
  15. I don't care how many moles you have caught, it's the making a lesbian happy that does it, respect man???,
  16. we weren't that accurate mate, that's why we switched to other weapons.
  17. used to get quite a few runners with them. in those days they weren't as good as what you can get today ?
  18. a good friend of mine used to make them, he was very good with engineering stuff. unfortunately he trusted a bad un converting pistols and got 4 and a half years ?. don't know about the. . 22 ammo. I used to use the brass 9mm cartridges, they knocked birds down easily. Once shot 10 rabbits out of the car window with it on the roadside one night, ?. I think it was made by anshultz.
  19. a few lads used the. . 22 rifle. I preferred. . 410 with home made silencer. had good success with a 9.mm garden gun. don't know anyone that bothers nowadays. going to have a go this season with catty.
  20. used to love a night on the birds? was a regular thing around here, back in the day. I think bottom falling out price wise put paid to it, plus anyone out with a gun at night being classed worse than the mad axe man.
  21. lol. I meant the real one, he's been dead years ?
  22. it's hard to to tell with him being dead.
  23. I think it depends on the individual dog. this one takes pheasant and pigeons. won't look at ducks, wildfowl. put it down to being a pup I regularly took her through Hardwick Hall Park and stopped her chasing wildfowl, that was early training, recall, stockbreaking, etc.
