  1. Good pics Russ, like the first pic of the second post where your dog is in full stride
  2. If it was me mate i'd always breed from a greyhound and keep the size up then if you decided later on further matings and preffered the size smaller use a whippet. I'd recon it would be a bit more difficult bringing up the size than bringing it down. As has been said, i'd look to the best blood possible for your greyhound, either one thats been worked or coursing blood. For which way round... A long time ago I worked with an old boy who bred and ran dogs with Nuttall of Clithero, Deerhound crosses, the hare dogs of their day & mentioned in Plummers early books. He always said that
  3. Looking for information on two 11 month old Bull Greyhound pups my mate has, bought from an ad in the Countrymans. The pups were bought in Doncaster and came to Liverpool. Both have turned out very well, fine lookin animals and he's looking to see if the breeder is on here or anyone knows of 'em for more information on breeding etc. Any help would be appreciated. I'll try to post some pics soon as... Cheers
  4. Do old minshaws have a dash of foxhound in them? That was supposed to be the case when they fist came to this city mate, B.Mc and co. were told by Vic that there was some in. One of the fist lurcher books is Simpsons, Rebecca The Lurcher, it's a nice, quaint book and the dog in question was a foxhound cross. Never fancied one myself, not that i'd doubt it wouldn't 'go' but it'd be the 'gob' on 'em that would put me right off!!!!
  5. It does CP but that pups standing on laminate flooring, which every dog has trouble with, so the pic might be a bit decieving. Looks like typical 'big heavy bull pup on spindley greyhoundy legs', and with a pup so built, never overdo the excercise, just keep it fun, plenty of walks and free running but keep it fun, nothing to serious for a few months and all will be well. I've had the same.
  6. CP's right WN, feet are feet and when a pup is growing it's a gamble on what they'll turn out like. I've seen good cat type feet smash to bits easy and poor looking splayed feet run over anything and vice versa... Most of the time it's what you run a dog over and how fit it is when you do that causes foot problems, that and not giving feet enough real healing time. I think folk get confused as to what flat feet are. I see flat feet as when a dog has not been out of a kennel in far to long, dogs that don't do any running. This is when road work will help and tighten 'em up, as it does
  7. Very very impressive Santiago, love that stuff.
  8. Will keep my eyes & ears out this end for you mate. Best of luck.
  9. As far as i'm concerned, there is no such thing as too fast, on the lamp or not. It's, as has been said, how a dog runs it's quarry that counts... Has that speed been harnessed to be used as nessesary..? The problems arise when a dog has not been entered either fully or properley to both the range of quarry and the types of ground it is going to run over. You only have to look at the folk who have successfully entered pure greyhounds as lamp dogs. On the flip side, i have a lurcher in my kennel that came to me at over 12 months old, he cannot seem to come to terms with my usual lam
  10. Great and interesting contributions on here, Gnasher, Duckwing etc and one of 'the' best on this forum ever, from Stabs... Thanks all....
  11. Jesus! He's coming on a treat Ronnie. Taz your bitch is looking good too. You boys should be in for a very bright future!
  12. Stewie, gutted for you mate, I know what your going through. If you remember when you pm'd me earlier this year, I had just the same thing happen last year. My dog suffered severe spinal trauma last year from a ditch fall and didn't stand for four days. On the day the vet was gonna put him out of his mysery he stood for just a little bit, a few seconds, so they held off... When they did it was still a total waiting game BUT with time he made a full recovery and i'm sure your bitch will too. Everything comes to those who wait! Take things very slowly, it really does take time. Best of
  13. Then lets hope it is like the Lowthers of old (and not of more recent years), a cracking day out.
  14. Good read Brambo, thanks.. I hope your wish comes true.. For me... the Borders
  15. Your dogs, especially the pup, look better and better each time I see 'em mate. Love the festive shot too. Well done Ronnie, a credit to you!!!
  16. I took on a yearling about this time last year. At the time things were pretty bleak dog wise, i'd lost a very promising young bitch and had just about written my old dog off as I carried on lamping him with one eye. With nothing to walk, nevermind run and six months previous moving to a countryside location, i was offered, off a friend, a decent youngster, free, with a very genuine reason for the offer and it wasn't out of any sympathy for me! I took him on, and to be honest.. he's an honest dog, done all I've asked and carried me through.. BUT he ain't mine.. Whenever I've raised a p
  17. Good stuff Ray, that pups gonna make a size too
  18. First off i'd just like to say thats a bonny pup! I've no doubt that litter will be very handy too, pity I wasn't in the market when they came up. Just my opinion but I also see a difference in the type. I seen the original dogs that came off Vic to Liverpool, been out with a few of them, had a dog out of one too. After a few years not seeing any of the type, when I then came on this site and seen recent dogs, they were different BUT saying that, I know all too well that they are a 'type' with a shrouded past and given the difference of years I suppose they would not breed to type. When al
  19. I had one, certainly looked the part, there's a head shot of it in my gallery (buckskin dog). It was out of very good bulldog lines too BUT it didn't have the balls it was born with, a totally usless animal!! Damn right nasty with any smaller dog, it was a fecking liability and went where all good doggies go!!
  20. Out.. Though with good kenneling and bedding. Though my dogs are house trained and very good inside, I'm not one for doggy smells inside the house, plus, on the wierd side, i'm allegic to dogs!!! I do enjoy them inside though but at this time of year I find it harsh putting them back out, so what they don't know, they don't miss.
  21. I'm with Stewie... Empty yer fecking inbox, lol!!
