  1. Never felt the need to give a dog anything except praise on a night out. The 'treats', as you put it, are the catches a dog makes, because i'd betcha a dog would rather turn its head to another run before chocolate. ! Always fed last thing at night and only AFTER lamping (never before!!), with fresh water (daily) always to hand. I've always found its more than enough for the majority of nights. I do carry water in the car always but have hardly ever used it. If your dog has really run hard, then it would be advisable to look to electrolytes but its rare, especially these days, that most
  2. I was gonna put up a reply but this says it all for me....
  3. Had a look at this breed before Stroller, they are the primary breed in the make up of the Catahoulla Lepard Dog (spelling!), coming over with the French settlers to the southern states. It was the Cat dogs I was interested in, stunning animals but vocal on quarry, though I don't know if that would apply to the Beauceron, as Cat's are made up of a few breeds including Plott hound and Blackmouth Curs if memory serves me right . Stunning animal in the pic and an interesting post
  4. Bosun11- Be fore that hunt took place we had ran Bull over some rough ground that had "lava rock" and tore his feet and stops up. We Tape him before we hunted that day an as you can see it worked ...very little lol.
  5. Yep mate, as with the other replies, it can be a common occurance with many pups. They seemingly are so chuffed the've caught the fecking thing they do a little war dance and all that good training looks to have gone right out the window! Fear not mate, all that training will pay off and the more you get 'em out the faster it'll come right. There are many different methods that can help, Chid's just said one, but whatever method you use, just remember that it may take a bit of time and whatever you do, do not loose your rag..!!
  6. Do that myself sometimes ,pre ban not uncommon for hare to show up when ye calling fox, used to be a real pain in the arse, dogs wanting hare me after fox haha Also called muntjac, roe, polecats, owls used to hover right in front of my face, the odd badger used to turn up to,ye can't beat a bit of calling to see wildlife Yep mate, dead right, if you've done enough calling in your time a whole spectrum of gear can head toward you, sometime its a pleasure, sometime its a pain.
  7. Good write up, good pics and a damn good haul Stunts. That black dog (Bull), whats with the lower back leg strapping & blood, just a one off, or does his style of running cause him to cut up there?
  8. all very true mate but when/if i breed off my black and white bitch i think the best option would be a greyhound and i brought mine in so i know what he can do in the field and all about the dog himself i know excatly how my bitch is bred and what she can do in the field and ive now traced the history of my blue dog through his tattos and finding out what he can do aswell i want good pups in the future for myself not profit and this is what i meant the pups i will have in the future IF i do breed my two i personally will no there history not just some random litter that i know nothing abou
  9. The thing is, if your worried about what greyhound blood is in your lurcher, it's too late...! The lurcher world was fed the notion "that ANY 'ol greyhound would do" in regards to lurcher production from the late 70's to the early 90's curtesy of Mr Plummer, who quoted this often in his books, and in the subsiquent lurcher boom many bought into it. To be fair, in the early days, with the different climate in hunting methods and fewer litters being produced, i really don't think it made much difference. These days its a different world. A million lurchers out there and everyone seems
  10. Breaking news...! Torres move to Chelsea has fallen through, as John Terry fails to agree personal terms with Fernando's wife..!!
  11. It's been posted on here too, try a search.
  12. Your a lucky fello indeed to own something like that Boyo, a piece of history! I recon its value would only be measured in what its worth to someone who collects that type of stuff too and what they would be willing to pay for it, say for instance, those who maybe won that cup back in the day, its not that long since, or, maybe the National Coursing Club. I suppose it really don't matter, because as they always say on the Antiques Roadshow, as long as you enjoy it, then thats its real value, right there. (Though I betcha most flog it and buy a package deal to the Med or a new Skoda..!! )
  13. I've said it before, but on here folk are far to hung up on percentages..!! As far as i've seen, when there is more than two different breeds involved, then its all just a throw of the dice on how they will turn out, now don't get me wrong, there are plenty of dogs that contain the assets of the different breeds in the mix but rather than say it has a drop of this or a little of that, folk work out percentages like a chemist. With their fractions worked out so well they would be do better dealing drugs than breeding lurchers! Yep, it's all well and good to know what breeds make up our do
  14. And a damn shame too Rotherham.... Though a crackin write up of history. Give me the motley crew known only as Jack Russells any day..! Either stunners or pig ugly, graft should be the only yardstick to measure 'em by, not some well written Reverand nearly two hundred years ago, who wrote what his ideal was and became immortal. White hunting terriers were around long before him. Form should always follow function. I pray that neither the Kennel Club or those who only see £££ will see the death of 'the real working Russell'.
  15. Thats what I was wondering... Think i'll go with the latter CP
  16. I lamped foxes for many years pre ban,got to see most crosses work,my mate had coursing dogs,he used to say to me our Charlie he'd do you ,he catches foxes he hates them, one night he came out with us,brought Charlie,we got five fox an three water deer,Charlie got the lot, I been looking for a dog like Charlie since,he was saluki greyhound didn't miss a thing that night,I have tried a couple of saluki bull greys since but the wer nothing like Charlie, I'd love one the same as him but ye taking more of a chance bringing a saluki x on for fox,he probably will let u down, ye get good fox dogs in
  17. I have been lucky enough to have had an invite down to Taz's ground and let me tell you it's some of the best land I have had the privilage of running a dog over! Well worth any hassle to keep such a prize. Thanks again mate.
