  1. Well done Dotty I usually leave Bommy night well alone, like Baghdad around here, the city is ablaze and though I live on the outside now the noise and smells from it drives everything in. I never take the gamble on a drive either but you know your specks and it paid off, well done again!
  2. Great stuff, enjoyed reading that. Looks like the 'dark continent' has got some very useful and fine hounds. And what an spectrum of quarry to use them on, fantastic! Though one on one with a baboon, that'd have yer heart in yer mouth if it was your dog...!!!
  3. Damn shame such a well built critter is only a pet
  4. Was it a 'happy accident' Brother? 3 years down the line how did it turn out? I've never had the need for a terrier whippet, my old whippets served me very well but seen a few terrier crosses go and they were crackin little dogs. Just a thought but if I was to look for a cross of this type i'd plump for a Lakey Whippet. Off one of them tall rangy type Lakeys. Recon that fiery/gassey attutude would suit a sighthound well and they certainly can be found tall and strait legged enough. I had a Cowan bred dog like that in the 's, used to think that if I could have got it over a greyhound o
  5. And how would you get that cross, bearing in mind that after the first cross there is no way of telling what percentage of what has gone where ! Yep , too many folk are hung up on fractions, when performance is the key!
  6. I don't think their is any such thing as guaranteed... Reliable, honest etc but guaranteed... I would firstly agree with Wilfs post, then, thinking about it, i'd go with Dotty's... Funny, but most of the comments have been made about seasons... What about numbers, as different lads will do different ammounts during a season, so it would be no 'measuring stick' to me. I'd only think in seasons if I had knowlage of how much the person gives his dog. Pre-ban, if someones dog was up for sale in its third season but that dog has only taken single figures (all be it well) per season, w
  7. Good stuff Ray Your a crackin shot with that gun . That pups lookin well, he's gonna be a big 'un!
  8. Crackin stuff lads... Great when pups come on Gotta say though Tomo, you look a little different from earlier this year, them fried brekkies you posted on are doin their job! Or is it the coat??
  9. Dunno if this link will work, but this is a must see.... http://www.bitoffun.com/video_vault/call-her-crusher.html
  10. This is a tidy animal, seen this dog in the flesh and the pics don't do it justice. Ronnie told me how it's bred, as i'm sure he'll tell any genuine enquiries, it's dog with a lot of promise, at that age and that price, it'd be a sound investment.
  11. I like that pic GTO and a fine looking dog too
  12. I think RFYL said it's got a high prey drive LG, plus it's only 10mths, recon i'd be a shame not to give it a working home, all lurchers deserve 'em! Nice lump all the same, spit of the bin licker i have in my kennels, someone will have some fun with it, best of luck with the re-home.
  13. so no pont for the catch ....and if the first dog took it on the run up then would it run again ... No, the object is to course not catch. The run up with a catch usually produces all three points.
  14. John Peel and the Rev Russell...!! Think this one could be a little difficult to answer Wag. Most on here have mentioned the older names in Plummers Fell Terrier, which is the only difinitive book tracing back older lines and the men who worked 'em. But that only covers Fell Terriers. I guess your looking for pre-war (wars) stuff, the turn of the last century? Lucas mentions a few names and lines in his book Hunt & Working Terriers and also both books refer to the old badger digging clubs that existed in number mostley around the south western counties & Wales. Hunt kennels w
  15. You've done everything right there Watchman, keep it up over the next few days and i'm sure she'll be just fine. One thing i've always done, is encourage my pup's to play with half filled balloons (well start with less than that), make it tons of fun and when the 'inevitable' happens, loads of encouragment and praise then bring out the next, bags of fun again and within a few goes over time... Bomb proof!!
  16. Me too Tomo, he wrote some interesting stuff. Would I be right in that he was on here a few years back? The last I heard of him i'd gone on a site on the net for an ad for first cross bulls, it was a site for living off the land type stuff (sort of River Cottage) and if i'm right he'd bred the litter, damn well bred too, I should have got one!
  17. From the first pics of that bitch on here I thought there was sommat right about her. Seeing that just confirmed it! Socks you should be justly proud.
  18. Over the past 8 years i've lost three and seriously injured another. Never had such a bad run BUT this 'ol dog game is never easy, sooner or later a injury or worse is gonna happen. Something we all should be prepared for. Get yourself insurance if you value your dog and remember, if you belive in what you do, no matter what the setback, it's hunting that counts, so get back in the saddle... soon as poss!
  19. Though i've always been predominantly a lamper, i've always encouraged my dogs to hunt up daytime. As long as they are 'firstly' well schooled with the lamp, they have all took to it well and in the right specks, i've had good success and providing that i'm still lamping 'em regular, i've seen no difference in their night time performance. Working them alongside terriers has also brought them on in this department, so long as they have a good prey drive they do the job. My current mutt is improving all the time in this department and our daily walks usually produce some good hunting now. I w
  20. If you know your going to run your dog hard that night then yes, i see the benifits but on ordinary outings, providing fresh driking water a few hours prior to running and taking water with you should be all you need. I've been out with lads trying to squeeze a bottle of electrolite down a dogs neck every other run, to me it was doing more harm than good and i said so! Elecrolyte should not be a every outing requirement. An expierenced, fit dog and a sensible owner know when...
  21. Feck that, Chris Moyles will kill it!!!
  22. Some great stuff posted.. The Warriors.. Just so damn good.. 'The Baseball Furys dropped the ball'.. Once were warriors, for those that have seen it, never forgotten, for those who ain't... Last of the Mohicans... My fave film... Every fight scene is a Wow... Even Bridget Jones... Clever, as it really looks like two blokes who can't fight, sommat you'd actually see... But only one winner, in all cinamatography, simply THE best fight scene ever!
  23. have tried several times but every time it tells me nothing found so Pie was a dog rather thn an affix then? so unless he sired hundreds of litters, chances are the dog in quetion isnt a direct decendent. thanks for info. The Pie dog did sire quite a few litters but not hundreds, though only one genuine half cross litter but he sired a few 5/8ths and 3/4 litters too, usually back to his own siblings. When he was alive his second owner put him up for stud and he went over all sorts of lurchers, which certaily didn't do him any favours! Thankfully, a few kept the line with the half cros
  24. Seen a fox or two stop and face a dog, usually with predictable results!! And, as you say, it was deep in the fens, i'd bet that young fox had no idea what you and your dog was. Though it's good to hear that you are content with your dog and what it does and you don't have to prove anything, good for you. Bet it was a bit of a buzz and good to watch.
