Electrolytes for your dogs?
Bosun11 replied to Snifferboy's topic in Working Dog Health & Training Talk
If you know your going to run your dog hard that night then yes, i see the benifits but on ordinary outings, providing fresh driking water a few hours prior to running and taking water with you should be all you need. I've been out with lads trying to squeeze a bottle of electrolite down a dogs neck every other run, to me it was doing more harm than good and i said so! Elecrolyte should not be a every outing requirement. An expierenced, fit dog and a sensible owner know when... -
Feck that, Chris Moyles will kill it!!!

Some great stuff posted.. The Warriors.. Just so damn good.. 'The Baseball Furys dropped the ball'.. Once were warriors, for those that have seen it, never forgotten, for those who ain't... Last of the Mohicans... My fave film... Every fight scene is a Wow... Even Bridget Jones... Clever, as it really looks like two blokes who can't fight, sommat you'd actually see... But only one winner, in all cinamatography, simply THE best fight scene ever!

have tried several times but every time it tells me nothing found so Pie was a dog rather thn an affix then? so unless he sired hundreds of litters, chances are the dog in quetion isnt a direct decendent. thanks for info. The Pie dog did sire quite a few litters but not hundreds, though only one genuine half cross litter but he sired a few 5/8ths and 3/4 litters too, usually back to his own siblings. When he was alive his second owner put him up for stud and he went over all sorts of lurchers, which certaily didn't do him any favours! Thankfully, a few kept the line with the half cros

Seen a fox or two stop and face a dog, usually with predictable results!! And, as you say, it was deep in the fens, i'd bet that young fox had no idea what you and your dog was. Though it's good to hear that you are content with your dog and what it does and you don't have to prove anything, good for you. Bet it was a bit of a buzz and good to watch.

If it was found dead and we are listening to anti propagander, then all we can hope for is that the cause of death is revield so hunters and hunting can be vindicated. Though i very much doubt that would make the headlines! If it was shot, then shame on those who shot it, not that I have any remorse for a long in the tooth stag BUT by the sounds of it (and it's made national news), it was a well watched animal, killing it (by any means) just adds fuel to the fire, yet again putting hunting in a less favorable light... Nationally!! Either way, it's still a bad day for us!

Seen some crackin little dogs that were mustard on foxes pre-ban. An iron hard beddy whippet/grey that'd run through a brick wall to get one and a collie whippet cur that had no teeth and would hold 'em all day, no quit in them little dogs over many years. I also owned a grew that took a fair few each season for all of her working life. For me though, when foxes were a priority, i'd always go for a bigger dog.

Exactley!!!! You should be 'running' your dog on your permission! As for mine, anywhere I can or want! When I lived in the city, roadwork or the park daily, I really don't see any difference between a lurcher (of any cross/type), just because it 'works' for a living, don't mean it should be any more badley behaved or anti-social as any other dog breed, in fact it should be more so!! Now I live in the countryside and the sky's the limit... Bliss! Though i'm as respectful as possible... I live there!! My dogs, over the years have been just about everywhere, from the Three Peaks t

The dogs seven, not eleven... Run the bollocks out of it for the next three seasons, give it all it can take and make a decision to breed from it then, also by then you'd have sussed out the right bitch, half, 3/4 or 5/8, you'll know what you need in a dog, it's then an 'informed' decision!

I totally agree with you Craigy and thats why I started my post with 'IF', BUT lets face it, most on here will use dry, as good raw can be either hard to find, expensive (if you are struggling to find it) and difficult to store and to use (for some) and because of that I posted on my thoughts to it, from what i've learned. I'd also go as far to say that, if given with some thought, I didn't notice any difference in my dogs health or performance!

Dead right Mr Darcy, Cumbria police have always put the word out on their big crackdowns and the main reason why they make it so public is that in an area like Cumbria it is very difficult to locate and catch poachers, especially 'in the act', so in general it's a load of 'hot air'. Very much the main places they make any arrests are on the roads leading to the M6 junctions, of which there are few. Mind how you go...

IF.. You gotta feed dry, then go for a protene level of about 24% to 27%, if they are doing a bit this time of year. Yep, you can take it up higher but you really need to be giving your dog decent graft. It don't matter the brand, you may find your dog don't take to some, so you will have to go through a few different types (and a whole heap of slop shovelling!) till you find one that suits your mutt. And, if you do change brands, do it gradually, mix one with the other for a week or so to stop bowel flux and sometimes rapid loss of form & condition. The best i've found are Eucanuba and A

Two great replys, simple and spot on.. I would add, read all you can, disregard most, stick with the programme, you'll only get out what you put in!

very flat feet not good!! Old dog on rough ground, really couldn't judge it's feet there. Simo put that post up because of the dogs ability not its feet! A dog he's proud to own! So lets not start piss-balling around about feet!! Point of fact... THE single best dog i've ever seen run (and belive me, i've seen a few!) had THE worst fecking feet, didn't make one feck bit of difference!!

Exactly how far back does the running dog go in the UK ?
Bosun11 replied to Aaron Proffitt's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Celtic_Hounds Is that what your after Hywel? Wikipedia is open, therefore open to everyone. What that stub does is describe the 'legend and myth' more than the probability or fact. -

Exactly how far back does the running dog go in the UK ?
Bosun11 replied to Aaron Proffitt's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Think Bird is right on this one, as most texts when describing British hunting dogs from that period seem to mention the Mastiff types (they were war dogs too). Not to say there were no running dogs, as Hywel says they were around then. What is becoming clear, with new reserches into ancient Briton, is that trade was both huge and far reaching, so the distant shores of the east were definatley 'on route', and with hunting dogs so highly prized, these dogs were going back and forth quite often then. The war-mongering factions between the Saxons and Normans, well before the invasion, dampened -
Lets get it right... Their ALL fecking mercinarys... It's all for the money, no matter who! As for Rooneys loyalty... Been the same all his fecking life, De La Salle had to beg an bribe him weekly to play for the school team, Everton too when he first was signed as a kid, he knew what he had, knew they all wanted it and played them all.

what is the best lurcher for lamping and ferreting
Bosun11 replied to huntingryan's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
A good 'un!! Most crosses will do exactley what your asking... It really don't matter which type! Choose a well bred pup, give it the best in training and entering and you'll be just fine!!
