  1. Good post Watchman and 100% on the money. I've had more than my fair share of bad luck over the past two years, more and worse than i've had in over 30 years with running dogs, seen sights I never want to see again BUT it's always got to be the love of the game that comes first. One thing we can all rely on to see us through.. the promise of a new dog... Best of luck
  2. I'd be very surprised if the animal in the photo is a boxer cross, i'd bet he who off loaded it, told 'em that thats what it was for obvious reasons. My first bull cross was registered a Gt Dane/Greyhound at the vets!
  3. Yep, as has been said, an interesting topic BUT is it 'his' crust or 'my' crust and would that crust be to buy his food or put mine on the table? If it's his grub, then really they could cost nothing to keep, hell i've owned crackers that were fed from the slop bins of school dinners! If we are adding everything that could come with owning a running dog, then that could add up to a pretty penny! I suppose the only way I can answer is, that what I own now 'could' earn his crust and his keep in every way but that would be firstly down to me changing my 'style' of hunting. Yep, he 'could'.. a
  4. One of my lurchers has a real knack for this job, he'll locate terriers both below and above and is very useful on days out. Though i do think it's a job not beyond any lurcher if they are out enough. As for terriers, in this day and age, if digging was your game, unless the dog has some other use for you, just to keep it to find, would be a bit pointless IMO.
  5. Yep, my choice too! This thred is fast turning into 'i know more about greyhound pedigree's than you'....! For me it would matter not, if i had to choose for breeding purposes (and i'd pick a longdog hybrid before a greyhound any day or, second best, a greyhound that someone is using as a lurcher), it'd be one of the big heavier boned types i've seen for enough years run at the Cup, with as much coursing blood as you could get. Is there a difference...? Not from reading some of the previous posts, but everytime I went to the Cup I seen bigger (mainly in bone) dogs than any of the
  6. Dead right, it's a youngster, brought up right it'll probably rectify and cause no problems, thing is, what could be cow hocked to one may not be to another, don't let comments put you off your pup. Handsom is as handsome does! Anyway's, if it can't run, you can always milk it!
  7. theyre cast iron men figures on crosby beach i think it was meant as a temporary attraction but the council have decided to leave em there Right, didnt know that. Well i'll tell you what craigy, its cetainly brought people to the area.. As there were quite a few folk taking pics of them, they are pretty eary things arent they.. Yep, they sure are RFYL, pic the right mornin or evening and it really sets the hairs on the back of your neck up. One of the best pieces of art in this country IMO. Next time your down there let us know, i'm about 5 mins away
  8. Got to be the one and only the legend dick hall from stamford rd birkdale
  9. Nope Dotty, it was up Christian's neck of the woods... Southport!!
  10. Bout 20+ years ago i was asked by an old boy I worked with if i'd help slaughter pigs, geese & turkeys for Christmas at his uncle's smallholding. Never done it before and thought it might be worth a bob or two, i signed on the line and was picked up at about 4am on December the 22nd. We got to the gaff and I found that Uncle Dick (yep, that was his name) was right out of Texas Chainsaw Massacre..The grandad.. Ancient! With both old boys ready for the knackers yard themselves, it was down to me to do all the work with full supevision from them! Ok, so we are setting up and one thi
  11. Would agree WB, Swazi gear is damn good stuff, I bought a gillett about 8 years ago and hardly have it off, great gear! If I was gonna pick a fault, it's only its price BUT I see it as an investment of sorts, so i'm gonna buy more.
  12. My regular lamping partner Timmyk had one that also broke its neck, damn shame too as it was a very good dog. Though, he did manage to breed a very good bitch out of it, to a half bred bull bitch. She's just about all i'd want in any dog, looking for all the world like a deerhoundy lurcher, fine, racy and 'the' most agile dog, you just can't see any bull in there... Until she 'goes'!!
  13. Some good times to be had on golf courses, been privilaged to play on some of the best, though mind how you go, they can be tricky... after dark! As for playing golf It's as addictive as crack! Got a lot of none hunting mates and my brother who play, as soon as they start their hooked, never shut up about it. Me, ain't got the time nor the inclination, if i'm gonna spend a day waking in wide open spaces i'll make sure i got a dog with me.. Life's too fecking short!
  14. every city in the UK would be a much better place if the Pierpoint family were back at work, once young Albert had,had a quicklook ,and a quiet word ,the problem would be solved. Now, THAT man, could realy use a snare.....
  15. It'll always depend on what you want to do with it LR? My choice would be No.6, but i'd have to 'know' the sire & dam were up to exactley what I was looking for... Best of luck
  16. Mine would be the B&T but both are bonny Skycat, i really do like the look of 'em, said it when you first posted about the litter, they'll be very handy critters, i'll bet i'm not wrong! Oh, just to add, they are the healthiest lookin pups i've seen on here to date, keep us posted.
  17. get with the post mate ...... Ok, I'll get with the post, the post says 'heavy', well lets face it, no heavy (as in weight) can catch much at all. As for first crosses, well run at the right weight and they'll do the job, week in week out. Take the Pie dog as an example, as it's blood is so frequently mentioned in your dogs make up. The pic that has been posted on here, taken in Scotland, did that look too heavy to catch foxes, he was a genuine half cross? Well if he 'looks' capable, then i'll tell you he was capable, run at the right weight, that pic was taken when he was with one o

You'll never know... not run that many fox then ...... walked in to that then ....... Eh...? Do you think you've just tripped me up there or something?? No mate I haven't
