As above . The only thing I would add is availability and choice . The 223 is my choice of fox round and also .243 for longer daytime shooting . You will have more choice of rifle and ammunition in .223 simply because it’s a more popular caliber , your local gun shop will stock more ammunition in 223 than the others . Like Stavross said , tell them you buy stalking and want a .243 .

Something to brighten your day?

If I didn’t know better, I’d say you’ve been dragging your knuckles!!? -
The only time a bore snake will damage your rifle is if you pull it on an angle. A bore snake will not and should not replace a proper clean , but it is a good thing to pull through after a few shots in between proper cleans .

Recommend me a cordless vacuum cleaner..

Henry Weston’s vintage. They also do Addlestons draught in my local . That’s not a bad drop either , you don’t want too much of that though. -
I’ve always thought that bore snakes were a bad thing ( can damage the crown)until I was chatting to Steve Bowers ( rifle maker) who uses them . He suggests using KG12 on a nylon brush , paying particular attention to the six inches near the end of the barrel ( moderator end) as that is the area with the most deposits , leave the brush soaked in KG12 in there for 10 minutes then clean with patches on a jag and finally a patch soaked in methylated spirit. He then likes to fire one or two shots to have the barrel in a fired condition before using in earnest. He also recommended a bore snake afte

Well done Stavross . If you don’t find it straight away , give it a couple of days in this weather and your nose will lead you to it , then you can addd it to your tally . Don’t break the rules , they are there for a reason . “Keep it real”?. -
The one person you should be able to count on to protect you as a child , your mother . That is the ultimate betrayal. If ever someone needed executing, it’s her .

What you playing at stav

We all miss em . And it’s usually the easy ones . I go through a routine of checks , shoulder , cheek , breathing etc . Whenever I miss it’s because I’ve not thought it through properly , I’ve hurried the shot . But in the field things happen fast and most of the time muscle memory and experience takes over and you hit the mark , but when I miss I usually know why . A funny story , a keeper I know told me he was out dogging in a boundary the other night , saw a foxes head sticking up in the grass , shot it with his 17hmr, heard a crack , then saw it run off , he squeaked it stopped and he put -
Interesting read ,and an eventful morning. And “good on ya” for taking the fox .?

Looks like you done that fox a favour, mangy looking thing . -
I’ve never got involved with DSC , I’ve not had to because I’ve got all the deer shooting I want with my job . It’s a voluntary thing , if you want to go on a course you can , if you don’t , then don’t . A friend of mine is very involved with it and is up to deer manager level , whatever that means. He’s got a lot out of it , it teaches people best practice and a lot about the deer . Everyone I know who has done level 1 or two has said they enjoyed it and learnt a lot . We can’t all be gamekeepers and pest controllers and deer managers . I would have thought it’s s good thing . It’s certainly

You could be right there ? I’ve seen that ridiculous contraption attached to his bumper he is trying to put a deer carcass in . ???

You would find it difficult to notice the difference in noise reduction from most of the moderators in that price range . MAE is a name that is being used a lot now thanks to YouTubes Mark Ripley (Rips 260 ) he seems to know what’s what and if he recommends them they must be ok . I just went for an Atec because it was what the RFD had in stock and seems ok . Wildcat are good too .
-
Nice !!!!! ?I like the stock . Bolt on the right side too . Take notice Stavross.

Hope you enjoy it Mosad . Welcome to the new gun owners club . I was surprised to see that you haven’t gone down the military style route ? Perhaps you are on a mission where you need to blend in with the civilian population. ? Anyway the rifle looks good and is grouping well for you . Let us know how you get on with the 80grn . I haven’t forgotten that I owe you a hobnob , don’t want to disappoint you but I’ve only got the Lidle tower gate brand “ Oaties” , times are hard in the Leaner house at the moment, the shopping budget has been cut to spend on Tikka rifles . I’d go along with mink as well. It’s going to be one of two things ... mink or otter , a fox would take the head . Whenever I’ve lost ducks to otters they crunch the beaks . So my guess would be a mink . Trapping near the water is the best method of control. ? -
It’s too hot for this sh*t ☀️

They’ve come a long way from my old BSA meteor. Christ I loved air rifles , I had Wierauch HW35’s and my last one was a Fienwerkbau sport . All break barrels and 12ft lb but I used to kill some stuff. Rabbits pigeon magpies rats and I’m ashamed to say it Starlings and sparrows when I first started, nothing was safe from old Elmer Fudd here . Still you can’t turn the clock back , but looking back I was bloody naughty. -
My new Tikka varmint stainless

Cheers lads . Nothing beats a new Toy . I’m looking forward to using it . I’m going to put a bi- pod on it I think . I had toyed with the idea of using bags. A keeper I know swears by them . But I like a bi-pod . I hadn’t used my old .243 for so long I’d forgotten what a good bit of glass my old Schmidt is . Well .... no excuses when I miss now !!! -
Picked up the Tikka yesterday evening from the RFD . I put my old Schmidt & Bender 8x56 on with Warne mounts on this morning . I also got the Atec sound mod . I had some old factory rounds knocking around so I got the target set up and got it zeroed. Surprisingly the Federal 70grain Noslers grouped the best with a half inch group at 100meters . I was only shooting off a feed bag off the back of the mule , so that can be improved on I’m sure . I’m going to start off reloading 70grain noslers with reloader 19 with nosler brass . I will let you know how my first reloads go .

The protection of pheasants is the only reason legitimate terrier work has a place today , dog-men nearly managed to get that banned by bad practice, and keepering could go the same way . There is a lot I could say on this post but this forum is read by those that seek to harm game shooting, so I will keep my thoughts to myself. Wilf was right when he said that the more wild things there are to eat the more predators turn up to eat them . There is a lesson in this case for anyone who keeps game ....... Don’t be stupid!!!
-
A lad I know does the pervert way of getting rid of them , he lets them say what they’ve got to say then says “do you know what I’m doing right now ? Aargh , urgh , aaaah “, they’ve usually hung up before the money shot ???
-
I’ve had a Patrick and a Shaun . I sometimes ask them their real name , and then when they aren’t truthful, I play the guessing game , “Mohammed “ ?, “ Abdul “? , “Ranjit? “ ,” Akbar”?
-
I still get them on my mobile, problem is , I sell stuff on eBay so I answer the calls . The latest and most frequent is the pre recorded ones on about an accident I haven’t had . I thought I was a patient and relaxed/ laid back guy ...... I now realise what a short fuse I’ve got . “Fuuuuuuuck ooooofffff” is my usual reply .

Cancelled my landline today . All I seemed to get was call centres ( Indian mostly ) ringing me up wanting to do a survey or sell me something. I’ve tried caller preference but that doesn’t work , I’ve also tried a good old bit of Anglo Saxon swear words , that just seems to get them going . I’ve tried asking them if they enjoy their job ? Bothering people who are minding their own business at home . Nothing will stop them , so that’s it , gone . Anyone got a solution to these annoying c@nts ? Or is this the end of the landline ?
