  1. The problem with old school keepers is that you aren’t dealing with country people any more, who don’t want to offend the local landowner because they live in one of their cottages or work on the land . No , most are city dwellers who have made a pot of money and are looking to escape the our ethnically diverse cities. “No the poor can enjoy the cosmopolitan , ethnically diverse, multicultural inner city dream “. The same liberal do gooders who are no doubt remoaners , who have allowed our towns to be overrun.....rant over . You see , you can’t lay down the law to these people, because they ar
  2. I’ve no love of cats . I think there owners are delusional animal lovers who basically unleash a miniature tiger on the local wildlife/ bird population and choose to ignore the death and destruction their beloved pet causes. But I am also savvy enough to know the shit storm that killing pets causes . And also I think of the kids who love their pet moggy . So I am ultra switched on to making 100% sure that what I’m shooting is not a cat . It’s quite rural around here and I don’t think I get feral cats , I think they are mostly pets . But if I had a feral cat problem I would have no problem deal
  3. It is bang out of order . I haven’t seen the cat or know what injuries it’s got . But the boss got the land agents solicitor to write her a letter to , prove it or shut up and there was obviously no proof . Nothing more has come of it but it was reported to the police , who haven’t contacted me .
  4. Since I started on this estate I have never shot a cat . When I’m out I see many cats . Not being a partridge shoot they don’t cause me any problems, I’ve had one get in a pen once and all it did was spook the birds and upset the pen , but no killing. I wouldn’t dream of killing someone’s pet . But whenever a cat goes missing I always get a call “ have you seen Tibbles “? Or “can you keep an eye out for my cat , I haven’t seen it for a few days”? I read into this that what they are really saying is “have you shot my cat “? The cats invariably turn back up , but I never get a call saying “panic
  5. The boss is away at the moment, he is a big Sauvignon drinker / enthusiast, he’s got a cellar full of the stuff, he’s back at the weekend and I will ask him if he’s got a bottle . I know he likes Newzealand wine I see the cardboard boxes on the fire waiting to be burnt.
  6. Good luck in your search , I hope you find her a bottle . So sad .?
  7. I saw some young people drinking this outside the chip shop the other day . I asked them if it compared favourably with a Nobilo Sauvignon, they told me to F@ck off otherwise they’d kick my stupid face in , “ how rude “!!!
  8. Why haven’t you contacted the NGO ( national game keepers association) and asked for their help ? I am a member and so are most of the keepers I know . I would personally be a bit wary about taking part in anything like this , that hasn’t been given the ok by the NGO . Just a personal view but it seems to me that the well meaning ( deluded) people involved in rewilding , don’t own livestock that would be potential protein for the released predators .
  9. It’s not the foxes that will have them , it’s winged pests that’s the problem.
  10. It’s not the foxes that will have them , it’s winged pests that’s the problem.
  11. Just flattered this old cock bird . He’s been calling my poults away from home for a while now , but because of the wheat I’ve not been able to see him . But there he was this morning with his little band of truants. He didn’t like my 55grain Vmax . 243 though , nearly turned it inside out. He was of course injured and I was putting him out of his misery.
  12. You are right there . Looking at them though , they are so different from the poults of that age you see in the sheds , their feathering and colour , so different, due to the unnatural high protein diet artificial heat and close proximity to other birds . But it’s almost like a different species.
  13. As promised , a little write up for you all . The combine and trailers and bailers worked on till about 9.0 pm . I sat next to one of the pens till it got dark but nothing showed. There is a Cider festival locally which started off life as a small festival where there were a few local bands played and people drank local cider , well now it’s become massive and extremely noisy. So last night SL conducted his foxing session whilst having my ears assaulted by the likes of “Dizzy Rascal” , ( he’s a rapper sausage dog ) . Anyway I managed to shoot two . I just drove around the newly cut fields spot
  14. That’s just it sausage, foxes can be stupid, but they aren’t that stupid , they are aware of my comings and going’s. I just did my rounds as usual and it wasn’t long after I’d been around that he showed. I can’t stress how important it is to have a bit of help now and again. It really is appreciated by me .
  15. This is all you need to know about Scientology, it was made up by a science fiction writer , L.Ron Hubbard in the 50s . It’s a complete load of Cods wallop and how seemingly intelligent people have been suckered into it is a mystery.
  16. Well they started combining the wheat yesterday and it looks like they will finish most of it this evening. Things have been a bit quiet on the foxing front for me . I knocked the snaring on the head a while back as I got fed up checking them for nothing. I hadnt smelled or seen a fox or had any interference with the birds , everything is settled and peaceful in pheasant world. Just how I like it . Some new people moved into one of the estate properties, former city dwellers, looking for the rural “ good life “ . One of the first thing people who move onto the estate do is get some chickens. I
  17. The first thing I do is feel the breast to see if it’s got any muscle tissue, if it’s sick the weight falls off the beast . Next strip the skin back to see if there is any teeth or claw marks. If it’s a well muscled bird with no signs of injuries then it’s a mystery. Keep your eyes on them and if you see a sick one , catch it still alive and get it to the vet .
  18. Nice work on the squirrels. I went through a period of seeing a lot and shooting a fair few , to nothing? Anyway, I haven’t killed them all they are now on the hazel nuts and my pheasant feeders . ?
  19. Totally agree with that cave diving story .... that guy can communicate, what a story teller !! He had my total attention, which is difficult. I’ve got the attention span of a goldfish usually, but that was awesome. On the subject of Blippi my grandson likes tractors, so when he stayed, I found some kids tractor stuff on YouTube, and that Blippi was one of them . My grandson and me now watch Blippi vids together...... he is one annoying c@@t !!! Seen him at the car wash ??? He needs suffocating..... but hey , kids like it !
  20. Have you seen the guest he had on there Joey Diaz ? He’s a funny guy. He has lots of interesting people on there , Brian cox , Elon Musk ! I like it on in the background, I listen to the bits that interest me .
  21. We have the Stow horse fair twice a year near me . The tourist town of Stow on the wold has a gypsy fair in May and October, a lot of the hotels and businesses shut up shop while it’s on . It’s not that there is a lot of crime because there isn’t , it’s just the youngsters are so bloody rude !!! They honestly don’t know how to behave , they are totally wild and out of control . They do not give a f@@k about anyone or anything. They are not nice to have around , it’s as simple as that .
  22. We used to use Stalosan F as a floor dressing , I’ve heard of lime but always thought quick lime too harsh . Agricultural lime is fine though.
  23. I like to put a few shovels of gravel/ grit under and around my drinkers . It stops the mucky paddling and they also pick up a lot of grit for their crop . Then when it looks a bit dirty I move it . In wet weather this is more often than dry weather . I give the drinkers a swirl/wipe every day or so . I’ve not had any disease on this shoot for all the time I’ve been here. I put it down to cleanliness, big pens/ low density, and most importantly, lifting the wire as soon as you can . In my case after about 10 days . That means you have to be on top of the foxes .
  24. Very little difference in performance. Both excellent foxing rounds . The 223 is a more popular caliber and therefore you will have more choices of rifle and ammunition. But one isn’t better than the other. Out to sensible ranges both are more than capable. If you want to stretch the distance then there are better options out there . ATB
