  1. Hallelujah , hallelujah , hallelujah , halleeeelujah !!!!!! . I’m off home , got the bugger . A little vixen.
  2. Ive Never bothered with trophy’s or taxidermy. I like it but my Mrs doesn’t!!! We foster children and I’d love to upset a couple of the hippy lefty , veggie social workers that visit with a nice stuffed fox mask , and regale them with the story of its demise , but Mrs shovel won’t hear of it . ?
  3. Another windless and very still and quiet night. I put in another evening vigil from a different position overlooking the pen and saw nothing . The birds are off the wire now and I’m not loosing any , so panic over . I thought I would do an early visit and see if any of the poults were being nabbed when they landed on the other side of the wire when they come down from roost . I was thinking to myself “ this will be when I get it “. 4.0am and I’m climbing into the high seat . I spent a very pleasant couple of hours watching the sun come up and the birds come down from their branches , but no f
  4. True , but we’ve become free child care . Still it’s hard on the young parents now to afford..... life . I’ve even been roped into after school pickups!!! Still can’t complain , some of those young mums are rather easy on the eye . ?
  5. I agree , In my experience, when they get a taste for live poults .... that’s what they focus on . In this weather particularly, anything dead is minging fairly quickly.
  6. All you need now is a piece of elastic through the arms and sew your mittens on to stop you loosing them ??
  7. To be honest , I’m not even tired , so I can’t use that as an excuse. All I have to do is check the birds have got water and feed , doesn’t take too long. I usually have a nap in the afternoon, if the grandkids keep quiet ?
  8. That string would have to be a mile and a half long to reach my bed . ?

  11. There were a few bits of dead poults here and there , I was waiting for it to come back for them . All it’s got to do is show it’s mug in the field when I’m hiding , the shot is only going to be 150 max .
  12. I think I that would probably work , anywhere else on the shoot and he’d of been wearing a wire around his neck , but because of cattle that is a no no . I have just been to check the pens , and touch wood another quiet night . No birds out and all looking calm and not at all rattled , no dead lying about or puffs of feathers. It looks like the fox isn’t taking any and would probably bait ok .
  13. Well , I’ve sat out for another midge and clegg infested evening by the pen , the poults are getting up to roost nicely now , and looking through the thermal was like looking at a Christmas lights show as their bodies glowed in the branches of the trees . I thought I’d wait in a different spot , above where the fox was spotted last night . I got there at about 8.30 and and tucked the mule under a tree in the hedge . The first thing I saw was a small muntjac buck , who appeared to my right and then a roe doe with twins . A badger appeared above a sett and I watched him rummaging about for a whi
  14. I can’t begin to imagine what that’s like , and I hope you find the strength to continue to care for her and that you keep healthy. After reading it I looked at my wife and thought “what if that was me “? You can take the ones you love for granted. I went over and gave her a hug , “ what’s that for “? She said, “ nothing “ . ATB
  15. There is one of my pens that I have always had a problem with . When I first put the birds in they can sometimes settle for the night next to the wire . Foxes then come along and spook them over the wire and mop them up . Knowing this I always sit out for The first couple of nights in my truck , I recline the seat and wind the window down a bit and go to sleep . When Charlie starts his nonsense you can hear the birds chirping and you are able to deal with it straight away. I’ve accounted for lots of foxes in this way . You are absolutely right , they are probably moving around the pen in the
  16. I don’t know how effective hanging up my budgie smugglers would be , my guess is it would attract the “wrong” kind of attention ?I was also told about something similar, soaking some cut up rags in aftershave and leaving it around the pen “ old spice “ I believe is the most repellent, followed by Brute then Blue stratos , or Hi karate . Have I just described the contents of your bathroom cabinet sausage? But I think the most effective deterrent is a . 223 rem , just behind its front leg in the rib cage , works every time !!!
  17. I’ve always liked Vinnie , crap footballer ? He was a presence on the pitch and an enforcer. The Wimbledon “crazy gang “ with Fash the bash were a hard nut to crack and intimidated themselves to a fair bit of success. Talk about making the most of what life throws your way , he was a half decent footballer who went a lot further in the game than more talented footballers around him , and the same can be said of his acting . But I wouldn’t knock someone for doing well with very little, that’s to be admired surely ? I think however he has acted like a bit of a dick ( the airplane incident) and o
  18. Well the story so far is I’ve had birds delivered to two pens so far , I’ve got another two to be delivered this week . The first pen has settled in really well and I’ve had no problems from Charlie......I’m touching a big lump of wood as I write this , no pun intended ?. The second pen was delivered Friday, the first night was good , anyway Saturday evening and I’m off to check the first pen and I noticed that all the water had drained from the IBC ..... shit !!! So I had to go and fill it up with 1000 litres which I do by pumping water from an already filled up IBC into one that’s on the bac
  19. Good result. And another interesting write up . It’s amazing how hard they are to find sometimes, I’ve had it myself in grass , and you need to get up a bit to see the heat source . I’ve given up before and gone back the next day and found them exactly where I was looking quite easily in daylight.
  20. It’s my little “truck gun” , I know there is a sausage on top , but as least I haven’t put a pringles tube on the end ?

  22. Yes David , it’s a Black sun ruby pil from Wardy . I think it’s fine , a lot better than the T20 I had on it before. I can see everything I need to . ?
