  1. Get yourself a cocker spaniel from good working stock ! I have jack russels and borders springers and a cocker and the cocker has the most drive in heavy cover never stops hunting,if i had to take one dog with me bushing it would be the cocker everytime.
  2. Good luck with the job hunt Patterdaleboy, its not easy out there at the moment, and with the season weve had so far i dont see it getting better any time soon! Dont give up hope something will turn up eventually, you could try contacting a few sporting agents and ask for the adresses of shoot owners and bung out as many cvs as you can,There is always a small turnover of keepers through the season, but ultimatly you may have to wait till the classifieds in shooting times in jan/Feb.Keep yer chin up,if you are good at your job and have good refs you will get on.ATB SL
  3. There is always one.lol
  4. Try Ebay, ive seen them on there from time to time, good luck SL
  5. Ive got the hawke 3-9x40 And on a 22lr its all you need, its not a centre fire so recoil is non existant, also the range on 22 is not so great so high power optics are not needed,i know some lads will have tales of amazing feats of accuracy as 100yrds but in reality i promise you most of your effective shooting will be within 50 or so yrds. The hawk is plenty of scope also check out a simmonds whitetail they are excellent value.
  6. Hi guys,Was at the ledbury hunt terrier show on july 8th which was very well attended,i think because every other show was rained off. There were competitors from all over.A Mr Alan Bowers was judging, and i think made a good job of it,he was placing obviouse workers and dogs which were very typie and showie but had never done a days work came nowhere, hats off to Alan. The reason ive posted this is the winner of the jack russel dog 12 months + class really caught my eye,in hind sight i should of gone up to the guy and had a chat but you know what its like. Was anybody there who knows the dog im
  7. Just be patient ,there is no magic wand,if its in it,the other dogs will bring it out.
  8. I dont think that sort of money is out of the way for a pup that has had a bit of thought put into breeding it.If a stud fee has been paid ,maybe a visit to the vet?Think about it you could have that dog 12 13 14 years ? It will also discourage people buying on a whim!Look at the papers get one with pklenty of red in it and pay the money.
  9. Hi everyone,I am new to this forum ,and have enjoyed reading the comments and advice.I am 46 and have been involved in fieldsports all my life.I started off with ferrets and air rifles when i was a boy, longnetting by night ,and then terriers and lurchers in my twenties.I never sought permission for any of my hunting and i suppose i was a pain in the backside to the local landowners and gamekeepers. I lead a different life now,i work as a full time gamekeeper on a pheasant shoot in the cotswolds.I have some strong opinions on somethings,a fair bit of knowledge on some topics, less on others.I h
