  1. people, people , people!! two stories spring to mind here, both when i was a bit younger and a lot more fiery! we had a big gsd when i was a lad, rescue dog who was great with the family but didnt like other male dogs much. stayed on a lead whe other dogs were around, and usually walked him late at night. well one evening two collie/lab type things came running up off lead, bristling and snarling at him, tried a couple of nip-and-dart-away type tactics, and Bruce is winding up into a proper fenzy. i'm shouting at the owner who doesnt really seem interested, and as the two dogs are get
  2. corbett was quite a man. born in an era when white folk in india looked upon indians as a lower life form, he was from one of the few poor white families, and had to work (bloody hard!) for a living. spoke the local tongue like a native, and (as far as the society would allow) considered the indians as friends. when the company couldnt fford to pay his workers, he didnt draw any pay either, and as result ate the same bare rations as the workers because he couldnt afford anything else. although shooting big game was considered the norm at that time, he gave up shooting for sport long before mo
  3. those pups look great, and are well grown for 9 weeks. nice job.
  4. had loads of stuff over the years, used to break ponies for driving, and had some llamas for a while which i harness broke too. rodents, birds, fish, etc all the usual pets these days its just 3 lurchers, couple of ferrets and some poultry.
  5. Know what, mate? That's a f**king good idea! I've been flying round the sites, looking for something new posted, faster than people can post. Why not indeed? Slam the breaks on. Bid the lunacy adieu for a bit and read some good shit. Catch ye all later! hope you enjoy it mate read all his books over and over when i was younger, great stuff. in india, they will try to shoot man-eaters but they also set live traps, and any they catch end up in zoos. well you can imagine what those poor b*****ds go through, after living as the most majestic of animals with evry freedom they are sud
  6. my mate had a film of some people in romania or somewhere with a tame cheetah coursing roe deer, brilliant to watch
  7. do you remember in the cartoon comics when we were kids, the explorer boiling in a big pot with all the savages standing around, and him still in his helmet and all??!!
  8. dont feed them anything for 24 hours, and give them electrolytes to drink. if they are still bad, get to the vet and take a sample of the diarrhoea. its a little worrying as its more than one dog, so you need to make sure theres no nasty disease going through them
  9. the SOUTHERN european races of wolf like the iberian wolf are smallish, but the NORTHERN european/asian/siberian races are just as huge as the north american ones; likewise those found further south in the americas such as mexico tend to be smaller (Bergmans law). i read somewhere that the biggest wolf ever shot was in the ukraine, 160lb i think
  10. i try to get my dogs round my kids as much as possible, but under strict supervision. i think its good to get kids respectful and knowledgeable about how to behave sensibly round dogs, and get the dogs used to the funny noises and jerky movements that kids make, so its no big deal to them. but i always have the dogs under control, dont let them engage in wild romps with the kids or relate to them as a source of entertainment or excitement - kids are just another thing going on in the backgorund of their world.
  11. so, some 25 stone monster, do they not get to 15 stone or 18 stone or 20 stone and think "mmm, i'm getting a bit porky, ought to throw half my dinner in the bin every day"? at SOME point do they not realise that they are FAT? they must do. and if they stopped being so fecking greedy at that point it wouldnt become an issue. and that is the bottom line, if you eat more calories than you use, you put on weight. yes some people are genetically programmed, or have a condition, which makes it easier for them to put on weight BUT they still cause it themselves by stuffing their cakehole. dont see fa
  12. i have found two of these in my shed which i forgot i had. they are brand new and unused, still in original packaging although to my embarassment the boxes ave been nibbled a bit by mice they sell for £30=40 each, you can have the two for £45 posted. PM only please, i am in bedfordshire the link below is for illustration purposes only http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ELECTRONIC-RAT-KILLER-PEST-STOP-PROCTER-PROFESSIONAL-/250771074166
  13. really look the part those two. glad you kept the black one, was my favourite from th e puppy pictures. now dont think i'm trying to teach granny how to suck eggs, but each of those dogs will really come on best if they get an hour a day alone with just you out in the woods. youll see things from a collie bred dog you wont see from other breeds. sneaky, clever, creepy cunning kinda stuff........
  14. 11 week old puppies dont mark territory, ffs. its either simply not finished proerly or often little puppies will do a few drops out of a sort of fear/respect when they come up to a big dog/person. do you just put the pup out or do you have a bit of a play and run around with it when it has done its business?
  15. jigsaw!!!!! please do not use that picture of my wife in your avatar!!!!
  16. shocking, poor little mite. and the big question is, how do you stop it happening again? all these owners must have seen news reports of other deaths caused by dogs, and yet such is their total ignorance that i bet they dont even consider their dogs as a threat to their kids. yes of course they need to be punished somehow, but that in itself isnt going to stop another attack, as they will never see the warning signs or understand dog behaviour. do you make everyone take a test before owning a dog? do you ban any dog big enough to kill a child (which probably leaves a few chihuahuas and a pug o
  17. used to know a girl who once shared a squat with that fella. said he was a real nice bloke. the singer i mean, not the marine mammal
  18. hagler, hearns, leonard, duran..........what an era remember hagler vs minter?
  19. well i really dont know where to start with this topic, there are so many angles and i guess at the end of the day it boils down to personal opinion, but what really struck me was the openness that copenhagen approached the whole business with. i'm sure zoos in GB cull surplus stock, but how often do we hear about it? the longleat lions only became public because it was leaked by an ex-employee apparently. and i reckon the reason its kept quiet is to avoid massive media hype (and lets face it, a lot of the uninformed public take their opinions from what they read) and attention from an
  20. you can muscle a dog up by increasing exercise gradually, and at the same time increasing protein and energy intake A LOT. if you dont increase the exercise just the food you will just be putting fat on the dog. but as folks have pointed out, there is a limit to "natural" weight gain depending on the dogs genetic blueprint. so we come to unnatural weight gain, the equivalent of human body building. ridiculous amounts of calories, and protein, and ridiculous amounts of exercise, but controlled "resistance" exercise, like dragging tyres, uphill sprinting, etc and repeating it time after
  21. sounds to me that you could do as much as you wanted in that room and still not be finished, but what i would try for starters is a small vent at either end of the room high up near the roof, and either leave the door open into your warm rooms to take some heat in there, or put some sort of heating in there. hopefully this would solve the damp problem enough without resorting to major work (and major expense). worth a try!
  22. foreign aid is really an effort to influence foreign policy. the USAs ability to do just about what they want in pakistan for example, and the interim agreement to halt uranium enrichment in iran, these and manyh other policies are not negotiated, they are bought and paid for. now the fact is that the UK government still has a misguided idea that we are still a major player on the world stage, and that our "aid" packages will influence foreign governments. i dont think they seriously believe they can change political outlook in other countries but rather that they can tie down trade agreements
  23. classic! that sketch is a variation on an old vaudeville/music hall skit, but brilliantly done and funnier than the original. the two ronnies were great, so much better than the other rubbish duos who were about at the same time (little and large, cannon and ball and other equally talentless acts)
