  1. I made that mistake many years ago,the nights lamping when i never took a lamp or dog came to an end.
  2. well said if there was a prize for veteran lurcher or should I say whippet man you deserve it mate long may you continue to enjoy your dog and countryside After a few years in the field i know Whippets are not for me and my hunting lifestyle, yet after reading some of this muckers posts and pics im seriously questioning myself,im beginning to understand the naivety of my rational.
  3. Venison as an habit of running from field to fridge without ever coming under the scrutiny of the Loonies out there,i just wish i owned a fridge or a mutt that could furnish its dark shivery climes.
  4. Its surprising what a little dog with a big heart can put in a shed,i find the owner of such a mutt deserves as much accolade for the effort they put into their prized pooch,as always, well done to you both.
  5. I won,t let a sapling see a lamp until its competent at bunny,s daytime, the experience at running, turning and picking up is then more easily adapted to their nightime education. At 11 months old id expect the youngster to deal easily with a bunny or 2,day or night, alas the bunnys on certain land and terrain are a tad more educated than others and use the terrain and their early doggy experience to their best advantage. Its then a case of sourcing greener bunnys for a green sapling,or having the experience to put them at a dis-advantage.
  6. seen thousands of rabbits that weren't expecting it! Thousands?,i thought apart from me and Tomo nobody had seen that amount of scutts?.
  7. Still going with this shite I see...... I thought you were dead Lab?.A few years ago me and a mucker used to trawl the countryside around us,day and night. Some of our favourite land was betwixt two valleys that held more than its share of game, hares, rabbits and venison, plus a fox or two,an old broken down barn was often a resting place as we decided on our next option, one dark and gloomy night we rested there whilst deciding on our next options, the lazy lamp was cast about as usual to be be met by the stark silouhette of the corpse of a young lass who,s face had been eaten away by rats.Young

  9. I do a little bushing, seriously pups bred this way are not what a bushing afficienado is looking for, even after the attempt to prove me wrong more than a dozen times over, ive bushed a tad longer and harder than that. The art of the cull is a thankless task, horrendous, heartless and so fecking saddening, yet is the task at hand that some of us take as requisite at times, even though it may sicken us to the depths of our souls, the test of a true dogman/woman at times, thankless.
  10. No they won,t,they will make second rate jukels if we are to be honest, there are far better options available without the need to source mutts bred from accidental matings. If the pups are taken on and utilised by somebody with lesser intention, then fair play and good on the pups, yet lets not masquerade under the notion that these pups are anything but what they are, second rate.Ill take my hat off to anybody that is the salvation of one,yet sympathy is the realm of the romantic fantasist.
  11. Culling is the major responsibility of accidental mating, the lads offered them up for free before the harsh descision of knacking the rest is undertaken, toplad,if my pride and joy came about because of a terrier lurcher accident id cull myself.
  12. The sign of a usefull ferreting mutt, many of them have the knack,my old Deerhoundy/Cur had an habit of following the action below, above, then striking at the requisite moment, uncanny at times.
  13. He,s mental,i hope he gets the bike to suit his ability at the manx next year.
  14. Its a woman,strange fecking creatures .
  15. Either double wire the aviary, screen it with garden mesh or ?.
  16. Cull hard and leave 2 to shift, accidents happen.
  17. Part of the learning curve with lurchers is the ability to find out what rocks the individual lurchers boat, some like tennis balls and squeaky toys to stimulate them, some like a Tesco bag or a skin, some like feck all until they see the real thing.Let the youngster develop at its own pace, ill hazard a guess that it will soon find something that stimulates its senses and drive,as it matures.
  18. we all breed from whipp and greyhound at the end of the day has a base dog,,,not the best feet on them,or skin,,,, going to the right stud dog you will solve that little problem,,, Many, many Whippet/Greys have the soundest of feet and a durable skin, many, many.
  19. Youngsters show interest from an early age, slowly nurture that interest, expect nothing but intrigue and interest as the sapling grows into its frame and brain.Certain youngsters develop faster than others, they all catch up eventually, well most. The more it gets out the more it learns, the more it encounters the more its interest levels progress, slow steady progression is what we wish for.Ive seen youngsters that seem to be less than interested that turn a corner and flourish when they are a month older.
  20. im only asking opinions i have a ruff idea of what im going to cross her with just thought id ask what people on here think. the bitch can run and is out regular and i want a pup back and need a dog that will improve on some of the bitches weak points, i dont feel her weak points warrant not having a pup back out of her. i know a bitch that has feet like ghandis flipflops and is awsome and all the pups work out of her fine and the skin thing like you say is an issue but if i put a dog with a good jacket across her it stands a good chance the pups will be more durable than the bitch If th
  21. Its a misconception that good dogs don,t get sold, they do at times, for a multitude of reasons.
  22. I don't think no ones talking about selling the odd spare pup , I thinks it's more to do with buying or selling a made dog or at least one that's a possible grafter . Pup or entered terrier id rather have one gifted than pay,yet at times some don,t have the luxury some of us take for granted and have to dig deep to source the required mutt. Some of the prices quoted are obscene, yet if somebody is willing to pay the price there will always be somebody willing to sell, seriously id find it difficult to turn down £1000 for a terrier, especially when i have the resource to breed another, the most iv

  24. I know of many a decent digging dog gifted to mates and spare littermates sold for a decent price, why is that such a problem for some?,the money made from the odd pup is a welcome bonus to some, its rarely the reason for breeding and will seldom cover the costs involved with raising a litter, yet id not turn down a little brass in my pocket from the odd pup.
  25. If Messi or Ronaldo were just released for the same crime, how many clubs would give them another chance?,mind you Evans goals to game ratio was,nt to bad.
