Starting them early or late will make little difference with some mutts,some just never learn the art of patience and the reward it offers.Some dogs are born feckless and reckless,the only thing that curbs their enthusiasm is running into an immovable object and the consequences of it.

Ive seen to many grown men crying and begging them to come back to believe that,then wishing they had been more resolute in their new found independance.Id starve to death,walk about unkempt,unclean and possibly un-shod,without the wifely interference,thats the second wife,not the first one that lasted until the second lurcher arrived home and met her dissaproval.

They often need a little rest from the nuggets they abide and keep company with,allegedly!

Its easy enough to gently check the leg,fingers first then a little push and pull,if the mutt reacts in a distressed state to the examination its a vet job,if it shows only slight discomfort id allow it a few days to recover,then the vets if there is no improvement.If we took the dogs to the vets at every limp and winge the vets would start charging us rent.

Perhaps that dog needs putting on a leash in the vicinity of roads and around moggies?.

If its been in a rescue centre for 6 weeks and looks like that the place wants shutting down.Worm it,flea it,get plenty of small and often meals into it,give it a warm dry bed and a little care and education,then you will have done as much as you can,good luck. -
The area is hammered by lurcher and terrier folk,believe it or not many of them are less than desirable to have in the area,many are not,thus the police are attempting to make life easier for themselves whilst protecting the rural community and property.As others have said,ring the local plod and inform them where you will be,vehicle details,landowner etc.then hunt away,good land is worth a little hassle.

Tried it,ruined 3 fountain pens and a re-tractable pencil on a brain dead Collie cur. -
One of the few shows now that make a genuine effort with the judges,that and the Red Kites makes it worth a visit.

As soon as you beat,or feel the need to,then its best to get rid and take up another hobby more in keeping with your abilities,head butting steel pillars or chasing fire engines.There is a world of difference in needlessly beating your training into a mutt and chastising a more resolute mutt with a firmer hand. -
Was that taken just outside Horsforth,Gods country if its nearer to Keighley?. They haven't got any trees, the locals burnt them after T'pit closed !!! Lol lol The 3 eyed and 5 limbed locals,anything near to Leeds is like the Deep South,All lurchers are bred from Blue and all terriers have an extra leg to dig themselves out.Anything worth writing a book about is bred the other side of Dundee and Otley is bandit country?.

Id look no further than the land you walk,do your homework and source a dog that suits the terrain and quarry,The Welsh landscape may not best suit a Whippety.

The quicker the dog the slower the brain cells kick in,the cleverer the jukel the slower it needs,or wants, to graft?.I don,t have these problems,a dash of Deerhoundy balances out the speed and brains and makes for a clod that takes longer to feed than it does to graft,im happy to stroll with a jukel that looks the part that others fill.
