Firstly if it showing this type of aggression, especially towards kids, then its a dog that can never be trusted and kids should never be left unsupervised around it,if it shows food aggression it will show aggression for other reasons.Id feed it with the kids around and gently chastise its indiscretions, taking a far firmer stance if necessary,id repeat this process time after time after time, until the growling stops and you can move its bowl and feed from hand without the aggressive response, ill warrant the dog will soon learn and get back to its early ways, yet dogs like this can be a ticking t

Ive had dogs that rushed, walked and slunk down the beam, that all managed to pick up squatters,i prefer a dog that as a steady attitude in the lamp, something that many of them cotton on to with experience,i tend to find the time when the squatters make the sudden leap from their seat are caused by the dog breaking the beam just before they strike.I tend to walk up to squatters until these dogs settle down a touch.

Ive an old retired Beddy bitch and a red Fell that hunted mink for over 14 seasons between them, both these terriers could be trusted 100% around the ferrets when bunny bashing, often worked around each other in the same holes.

Id prefer to have at least 3 lurchers in the kennel,at some time or another at least one of them will be laid up and some of the terrain i hunt would,nt be a viable option with 1 dog,no matter how good the dog.I had 2 dogs at hand this time last year, lost one and another as lost an eye,she is half the dog she was and is not up to the task,s at hand,at times, thus a third would have served me well.Between me and my lad we now have 3 saplings to bring on,ive the task of entering 2 of them, which ive often done, yet these 2 possibly need splitting up and bringing on as individuals. Some folks can onl

If you put up clips expect the rough with the smooth,i also thought the Collie made a mush on that ground, mind you ive had dogs on the best of ground that have let bunnys run again, that a terrier would have caught. -
Anyone Remember The Norfolk Lurcher Society 80's-90's?
morton replied to sam74's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Now that would be a good topic for a lurcher book,Lambourne and the characters it attracted, especially from their money?. -
The dogs got to 12 years of age and your asking how to feed it?,ive wet the bed?.

Lambourne was the Mecca in the day, long before lurcher shows became polluted with pseudo shampooed jukels lads beat a path to Lambourne,i only went once, what a pilgrimage, the Stone Henge of the scruffy lurcher mass. -
I awaited the heavy fall of daytime fog with an happy heart at times, feck to waiting for a little night time foraging,it enabled one or two of us to allow the dogs to stretch their legs on land that was otherwise off limits, the fog enabled the mutt to run in the proximity of over zealous landowners un detected, yet un hindered by the haze,it was a spooky experience witnessing the dog in pursuit, especially when you could hear more than you could see at times, the haunting squeal in the depths of the haze was testament to the dogs ability to connect in such situations, then scanning the limited hor

Dogs That Have Tried Your Patients Past And Present .
morton replied to BRICKTOP's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
After a long hard slog,2 water-hens,don,t ask i had a whippet at the time that was in the habit of catching them, about a dozen rabbits and 2 hares,we pulled over in a pub car park for a little refreshment, the tally was tightly stashed in a couple of stout bags and away we went for a quick pint, which turned into a less than quick 3 and a burger and chips,we returned to the motor to find the whippet and 2 lurchers sat amidst carnage, feathers, guts, blood, flesh and fur covered every inch of the motors interior,we attempted a little clean up,id have hated to empty that bin, took our coats off to sit -
I would,nt feed a lurcher that did,nt have the ability to hunt up and work out a few of the problems it may encounter, you can only train so much into a dog,the rest as to be natural and instinctive,if its not in the breeding its impossible to train it into the mutt.

A few years ago i had the opportunity to acquire a jewel of a pup, bred in the purple,i raided the wifes bill money and arrived home with my new treasure. From day one the mutt gave me migraines,it would not take to any sort of education,i prided myself on my ability to get the best from the most worthless of jukels, this little bag, of ignorant and un-interested,skin and bones tested my resolve like no other,a Whippet/Grey-Saluki hybrid.I persevered and managed to get a little mooching and lamping instilled into its barren head, eventually it turned out into a gem behind an Hare, the little ignora -

The drones are thinning their ragged ranks, god bless the drones and the nerds that navigate them. What boils my piss is these same cowardly drone dodgers are sneaking back into the UK to pick up their UB40,s and carrying their hatred back here.Id start a campaign, like they did in the 2nd World War when they sponsored Spitfires,Hurricanes and Wellington bombers, lets get sponsoring a college nerd and his drone,im sure every village, town and City could get a few hundred new drones flying over their raggy heads blitzing their idealogy and making the UK safer,if fecking only, nice thought though?.

All my terriers are trained to work around ferrets, the trouble with terriers, especially when they go into excitable work mode,is they have an un-savoury habit of forgetting all the early education in these situations, ive about 6 terriers,id possibly trust 2 of them with ferrets.

Some people are happy enough with a dog at heel, nets in the pocket and ferret in its box, slung over the shoulder, others prefer a dog on slip awaiting its release etc.,etc.Driving the land can offer rich reward for little effort, ive done a little of everything in the quest for my Grail, driving the land had its moments,i found it to easy and unsporting, yet id not knock another who may have limitations on their time and need the quick fix and easier hunting option,or no option at all. Each to their own i suppose, unless its lamping hares or gate-netting them, barstewards.

He was a top manager at Everton, would have been at Utd but for the lack of support he received in transfers. He,s not suited to Spanish football, should have taken a job in the Championship and built his rep back up,or taken over at Celtic and been another instant managerial success .

Something like a lurcher?.

I managed to exercise the mutts without the need of a car and still accounted for my share, the car made it easier to get to and haul the catch.Transport opened up the country to the discerning fur and feather forager, yet the lads who hunted on foot often had the better jukel?.Maybe a book that covers the progression from foot to wheel and the pro,s and cons that go with each.
