Modern ancestory,the Russian Borzoi type wolfhounds have never played a major role in the the development of modern lurchers,why is that?,the Irish Wolfounds have been useless before the modern lurcher developed,over 200 years ago,the American Stags were developed from English Staghounds,possibly the finest exponents of that type of hunting,ever.I still cannot fathom why the original Borzoi played little influence in the modern Lurcher,especially with what it had to offer. I'd say that was because the Borzoi was restricted to the aristocracy, (didn't the Czar gift a pair to Queen Victoria ?)

There will be few hunting dogs throughout the world that cannot trace common ancestory to Britain,some yet few?. I agree that countries colonised by Britain, such as Oz and the US, that would be the case; but places like Central Asia, the Middle East, Europe have had their versions of running dogs, sight hounds for thousands off years. Beagles are as honest as they come as bushers,centuries of breeding and working accounts for that fact,in their day they grafted in packs,the hunting ban and its ignorance as fecked that,shameful.They still have the opportunity to reflect their breeding and heritage in certain kennels,working within the restrictions this law as.Do a little research on line and follow a beagle pack,doing what they were bred for,marvelous dogs in action,really marvelous.

There are far more countries than Britain that have bred and adapted jukels to cover their hunting lifestyles,some of which are possibly a better reflection of the originals that were bred here i.e.,the Deerhoundy and Staghoundy mutts that originated here and lost their purpose decades ago.

There are innumerable locations impossible to dig,especially were the majority of decent terriers breeds evolved,thats possibly why a sounder that could bolt was prized over any other working terrier type,back in the day when terriers were grafted harder,longer and with more purpose than the majority are today,digging was the easy option brought about by the advent of technology,since technology started to play a major part in terrier work,terriers have gone backwards,get a mark and get the shovels out lads,breed them bigger,stronger,muter and less useful,the shovel and locator will amend the

Beagles are an handy tool at bushing the odd fox about,ive never seen a lurcher that can shoot then retrieve,its ok to be a tad politically correct in the times we live in,but geez lets do it with a semblance of nous.

There's nowt as funny as folk and dogs matey. . . seen grown men wanting to fight each other over the bloody things...lol. You should try a week or 2 with my old dog..she,s a neurotic beaten up rescue dog from a previously bad owner. . . Now the tales I could tell about the fun and games I've had getting that dog to a decent working standard could fill a book. . . Faults a plenty I can tell ya. . .lol. We keep trying to re-invent the wheel,fox drops in or is at home,terrier enters and either shifts it or awaits the shovels assistance,if the shovel,bar or dynamite,them old lads had a knack of blowing up rock piles,fox,s and terriers,cannot assist then its down to the terriers resolve and the owners patience,at times.The wheel as been around and round for centuries,only the broken ones ever needed fixing.
