  1. You can have them when I’m on my hols ?
  2. I see you are working some of them secret open warrens without me Kev!
  3. Anyone looking to bring on a pup this year? I have decided it’s time to get a second lurcher in. The owner text to say the bitch is in pup and pups should be born next week. Looking forward to spending the summer with a new pup in tow. The breeding will roughly be: sire: collie grey/saluki grey x collie whippet grey/bull grey 26tts dam: collie bull whippet grey 23tts havnt decided on a dog or bitch yet but will see once the pups are on the ground.
  4. Brilliant thread this. Started well and ended well. Great little pack and great land to work. Look forward to your write ups next season.
  5. You might get one one here that someone might have to give up.
  6. Best ferreting and bushing dog I have been out with was a wire haired JRT. My busher definitely benefited from getting out with her. She never went to ground. Yapping I doubt you would have any control over. I’d the beddy whippets you know of also go into cover then there’s an option. They should be good on feather too. Would say away from the beddy whoppers though!
  7. Best thing I ever did was get a busher to work along side my lurcher. You see a lot more than you normally would have. I went for a spaniel x terrier. He’s settled in and isn’t scatty. I would probably go more for terrier though with living on a boat. Spaniels don’t tend to sit still for too long! Another option would be a beddy whippet type. I go out with a half cross and she bushes well. You also get the temperament of a lurcher. Only thing is not all beddy whippets will hit cover. Then again not all terriers or spaniels will. When you looking to get a pup?
  8. I always break the egg shells up and add to their food. Broccoli has calcium too. Obviously bone but I don’t over do it.
  9. There’s some decent folk out there. Kind gesture. Looks like an excellent day out too.
  10. Going to be a nice strong dog that boris. Look forward to seeing how he gets on.
  11. Nice one Vin. Totally agree. Already started to de clutter my life and want to spend more time out with the dogs my boys and good friends. I have also met some decent folk off here. Phil being one of them. I like to come on here to see decent write ups and people giving decent advice. Helped me a lot when I started out and I’m still learning! Don’t seem to see much of it now as the thread is normally ruined on the first page. ATB.
  12. There’s plenty of people who have done the same. If someone is 100% decided on not breeding then they shouldn’t regret it. There will be other top dogs and bitches to get a pup from. ?
  13. Yeah heard this and heard ligaments and tendons don’t repair as well. Most vets and people in the know have told me it’s not true.
  14. A lot of vets will advise on before the first season. Don’t think it’s with the emphasis on working dogs. Looking at all the evidence and speaking to various vets, I would wait until after the first season.
  15. That’s one of the downfalls from spaying. People also say about weight gain but that’s just a case of less food and keeping up the exercise. Think it makes sense to at least let them have a season.
  16. Hopefully people will have something to contribute to this thread. Positive or negative. Something I have been looking into as I might bring a bitch in next and have no wish to breed. I have had various answers. Hardest choice is deciding when to do it. Most vets say after first season. Others say before. Had a couple of people message saying it made no difference to the work ethic/ability. Would also like to hear both sides of the story.
  17. As Vin said. Spoke with him the other week. Hes getting out and doing his thing. Sure he will be back on soon!
  18. Nice litter that will be. Is she mainly a busher or an earth dog?
  19. Yep all depends. I think it made a difference with my busher working along side another one. My lurcher seemed to pick things up by himself. The only thing I think was a help was the distance he ranges and how he hunts open land in the day. I think he definitely picked that up off other dogs. Lamping wise I prefer to take them solo. Think the owners would benefit from a mentor more than the dogs. I know I did. ATB with the pup.
  20. Collie whippet greyhound or a beddy whippet. If it just for ferreting then a smallish dog will suit. If you want to move towards lamping as well and your land has bigger fields, go for something a little bigger. Collie x grey or any lurcher x lurcher type breeding that are doing the work you want.
  21. Kids must have had my phone and put a quick post up!
  22. I wouldn’t be doing much at 3 months. Wouldn’t even be thinking about a lamp. Get the bond right and let it be a pup. Bit of basic training and get it amongst some stock. The rest will come in time. ?
  23. Lots of food for thought. It’s the seasons that bring trouble with a Bitch in a mixed kennel. Something I was aware of. I know people that keep all dog kennels and have also had massive problems.
