  1. I use a spaniel terrier mate. He’s a great busher and loves ferreting. He don’t range that far though. Handy sometimes but when I’m in the hills I could definitely do with something that ranges out a bit. If I had a choice then I would go beagle x spaniel terrier type. Having said that I go on the hills with a lad who has 2 beddy whippets. They leave no stone unturned and cover some ground. They go in all sorts of cover. They opened my eyes. Get a young dog stock broke and then out with dogs that hunt the way you want. Most will pick it up. ?
  2. Anyone in the south west or within a couple of hours drive from the Exeter area go out with a decent bushing/bobbery type pack? Something I’m interested in and am looking at heading out with someone with a few decent dogs if possible. I’ve been getting out a bit with my busher but he could do with a few more bushers to work along side. Happy to drive if anyone’s offering. Cheers in advance.
  3. My old man is in the dog training world. He was big on GSD for ages. He’s had Dutch herders and Mali too. He really rates the Mali as a working dog. He says the same...they got to be kept busy.
  4. There’s not many decent GSD about now. We had them growing up. They were agile and fit as fiddles. Not as popular as they used to be
  5. For train ability I can see them suited to some people. Don’t know if I would go 1st cross though. Bit too heavy for me. Heard they were popular back in the day with some. Think I would rathe go for a Mali type cross.
  6. I’ve been saying for a while.......you need a busher!
  7. Nice one. Yeah I’ve found some decent patches for rabbits and the busher has put a fox out the other day. Rarely see much up there but great to have a walk out.
  8. The farmer I hang around with has a kelpie x border. Fast little thing and works cattle and sheep. If she sees a rabbit or fox when out she’s in all sorts of cover trying to find it. Something like that would be an ideal bushing partner.
  9. Don’t speak about poor Alf like that!! Didn’t realise you were looking at a collie. You got plenty of options of where to get one.
  10. Been getting my pup out a fair bit. Still lots of training, bushing and stock work. She will be ferreting the next couple of weeks and lamping in a couple of months. She’s collie grey saluki grey bull grey x collie bull grey. 9 months. 24TTS and shaping up nicely.
  11. Up above the valley mist early on Sunday morning.
  12. Don’t fall for it Keith. There are no open buries. Kev will have you crawling in the blackthorn setting nets before you know it! ?
  13. Collie bull grey x saluki collie bull grey.
  14. Cheers. She’s only 7 months so still early days.
  15. My favourite style of hunting. Good to just get on a high spot and watch the dogs working. Had my pup out this week. Just starting to range out and search through the cover
  16. Lovely types them Vicky. Look forward to seeing some updates.
  17. Don’t think you need anything too fancy Keith. A little bunny basher will be ideal. Will be an ideal size to have in the house too
  18. Agree there. All depends on what the bitch is like. I’m sure you wouldn’t go far wrong with either of the 2 dogs mentioned.
  19. I’m not a digging man but have spent plenty of time outdoors working in all sorts of weather. As said, a lot of the hunting style clothing is heavy and more fashionable these days. To keep dry on the move I use a goretex shell or paramo. I wouldn’t want to be digging in them though. If I ripped them I wouldn’t be too happy. No matter what you are wearing when digging I think you are eventually going to get wet, rip kit or knees etc are going to wear. Either that or you will be wet with sweat if you are digging hard enough! I don’t mind being wet as long as I’m warm. Decent base layers and a wa
  20. Sad news about your lads dog. Glad he’s got straight back into it and good gesture of someone giving him a dog to run. ?
  21. Early days for her and she will soon learn. At least you have another dog to get out with and do something. That’s the reason I got a second lurcher in
  22. Looking on the bright side mate at least she hasn’t done major muscle/tendon damage. She will hopefully fix up quick and she will be back up then hills ?
