  1. Some pups are more difficult than others to train/housetrain etc. BUT.......with great respect...... if I had a pup or a dog to sell I wouldn't consider selling it to you.
  2. Threequarter grey/collie bred to threequarter grey/deerhound would produce 1/8 collie, 1/8 deerhound, 3/4 grey. The pup you're looking at would have 1/16th collie and 1/16th deerhound but you shouldn't waste too much energy worrying about fractions. If both parents work well that's the main thing.
  3. Gaz, I do like the first picture a lot. Something about the angles and lines of her head.
  4. Is the roof low in a corsa van? Sometimes dogs bang their back as they jump in then don't like low van tailgates after.
  5. She's 21 months today. Her birthday's May 10th :drink:
  6. shes a beaut MF and doing the biz I see,you happy enough with her then? Yes, I'm very happy with her at the moment. She was a bit slow to pick up the rabbit lamping game as she's quite big (28 to 29 ats) and I'm still giving her plenty and her strikes getting better all the time. She's soft enough mouthed too, hardly ever marks rabbits. Everything else seemed to come naturally except for foxes, which she's seen a few of and been in at the kill of, but she hasn't caught one single handed yet. She's come close a couple of times and I'm sure she'll do it but even if she doesn't I won't m
  7. She a first cross Krawnden, from Alan Charles in Westmeath. The dog, a deerhound that catches hare and fox and the bitch an unregistered greyhound that'll have a go at most game.
  8. A young bitch, she's had a few of these , this one yesterday. Not deliberately slipped on. She's self entered, finding and flushing them herself.
  9. Great photos Fuji and thoughts too. I was thinking myself that the seasons closing over here too. The last couple of times I've been out at night half the does have been milky.I've enjoyed the season too as my young bitch (21 months) has passed a couple of milestones. Don't worry about age mate, I've just celebrated my 59th birthday last month and can still walk the hills a bit and drag heavy stuff about so I'm hoping I have a few more seasons in me yet. I love the hills and always enjoy your photos but I'm a bit lazy about carrying the camera myself. ATB.
  10. Dead right and a three month old baby or indeed any young child should never be unsupervised with any dog anyway IMO.
  11. Jigsaw, My daughters whippet had one similar to that for a year or two. We've no central heating, (I don't like it) and he needs a coat when the weather's like it is now. That type of fleece, with front legholes and polo neck collar was great for him. He has one now that my wife made, like an ordinary greyhound blanket but made of fleece and with the high collar again. He loves this too and will come to get it on if the fire's not lit. The other three hairy lurchers don't seem bothered by cold.
  12. I have Altberg (the lightweight waterproof warriors). Very comfortable from the word go and I've had two seasons out of them. They're starting to crack at the flex points now but still are waterproof.
  13. The soil is something similar but a lot deeper and better drained. It's kept clean and is good for growing cabbage, sprouts, spuds etc. Back in the 70's I was working on black fen on one of those potato harvesters with conveyor belts for spuds and another for stones. The weather was wet and the tractor pulling it bogged in. They hooked up another to the front of the first and that bogged in too so we all fecked off to the pub.
  14. I like the look of him. Does he hold a scent well? Does he bark to a scent or run silently? Its 7 months old. Yes, I saw that but when he said real forward I assumed the pup had self started.
  15. And don't shine the light on his house. You'll find most farmers won't complain if they don't know you're there.
  16. I like the look of him. Does he hold a scent well? Does he bark to a scent or run silently?
  17. I like it. It's the kind of thing that might sway people in the direction of hunting if they haven't already made their minds up.
  18. Okay for starters, as someone who gets less opportunity to get out lamping than others - I need 2 dogs. I work nights so when that night off work crops up - I AM GOING OUT. So I need 2 dogs to guarantee that. One could be laid up or in season etc. Time is precious. Secondly it is nobody's business but the man who feeds them how many dogs he keeps. Dogs ain't just a working tool to me. If I had 4 and they were all below average I would still be a happy man. They would put the odd bit in the freezer and I would enjoy their company. This ain't a competition who can keep the best dog and w
  19. just looked on the net few pics has it owt to do with minshaw It's not by Minshaw, it's by Joey Finnan. He did have dogs with Minshaw breeding in them. This is one of my favourite books. Very good for the first two thirds or so but it did seem to run out of steam a bit towards the end. I like Bill Doherty's book too though it's not all that long. His other book, "A bird in the hand" is really good too if you like keeping native birds.
  20. Open a window with THL and another with photobucket. Go in the photobucket one and click on the photo you want then click on the copy box to the right of it (it say's img url). This will copy it. Now go on the THL window and start your post. Right click your cursor where you want the photo and a box will pop up with commands in it. Click on paste and that's it.
  21. Get him on the big stuff and you can match Fuji's pom.
  22. I think you need a passport now to bring dogs to southern Ireland, even from UK. You never used to but they brought in new laws. I'm not sure if they enforce them yet but there'd be nothing to stop you ferrying to the north then driving over the border.
  23. Did Teddog run his dog against a bull cross? It's new year now and that's when it was supposed to happen. Anyone know?
  24. I'm glad to hear you say that. The right collie grey has a lot to bring.
