  1. As chid says, two smooths will only breed smooths, AFAIK even if one or both are bred from beddy cross.
  2. What were they like sailor? Were they purely deer and grey or was there other blood in there too? I'm guessing you must have liked them or you wouldn't have had four. I've got a young deer grey bitch from a line started years ago in Ireland with some of Bills breeding in it. She's 18 months now. Done alright on rabbit and hare and I'm just starting her on fox.
  3. Or to arrange matches that'll never happen.
  4. I think he is down south. Isn't he Ocset?????
  5. It's funny how the deer cross has gone from being the "must have" dog in the 70s to the least popular/most unpopular of the common lurcher crosses. Guess that's fashion for you.
  6. The moon sets at 01.00 in the morning. That's when I'll be going out . It's good and breezy here and my dogs have exercised on rough and hard ground all summer.
  7. not had any experience of beardie crosses but i have heard similar. i'd rather a biddable dog . cant see many benefits of a lurcher deciding to cock a deaf un. There definately CAN be benefits. I like a dog to be fairly biddable myself BUT when it comes to hunting up a good dog knows a lot more about where to be and what to do than we do. That's surely why we use dogs instead of hunting up ourselves!!
  8. Try one of these. It'll stop him getting daZZled too.
  9. I've been watching your litter since pups PP. Fine hounds. Why the muzzle though?
  10. We've had a bit of rain here in West Cork and the grounds fine heh heh . Season's starting off nicely. Finally got some fish up the feckin river too!!!
  11. I've sometimes wondered that myself. My guess is that they're exploring and establishing new runs. To an animal as small as a rabbit it must be a devastating change when a field is ploughed, like a mile square bomb blast to us. All their familiar paths and scenting/pissing places gone. I'm only guessing here but what else can anyone do.
  12. This man seems to like his collies mate. No disrespect to your opinion but I've never had a 1st cross collie/grey that I wasn't happy with and I've had one or two in my time.
  13. If ones of your welsh sheepdogs is a bitch why don't you put a good greyhound over her. Max hardcore on here has one and would know of others.
  14. When he does that just walk away calling/whistling and he'll come to you.
  15. Lord above, someone's resurrected B.P. Do you read a bit by any chance Ledburn?
  16. That just looks like a sealed lead acid battery to me. 10ah deben lithium ion weighs 735gms. This weighs 900gms and is only 6ah. The 9ah weighs 1200gms - almost twice the weight of a 10ah lithium ion. Smells a bit fishy to me.
  17. I use a wider beam for a pup than I'd use with a more experienced dog. Pups tend to lose sight of the rabbit after it turns and until they learn that they'll always find it in the beam, a wider beam helps IMO.
  18. Greyhound breeders do but I prefer lurchers - they're generally tougher and sounder and cleverer. If all you want is speed, get a greyhound.
  19. Have you got a link for that please Conner? I wouldn't mind one meself.
  20. Do your outside retrieving on a track, like a canal or riverbank or a farm track. Throw the dummy down the track and as soon as she picks it up you feck off running in the opposite direction, calling or whistling. Keep going until she's almost caught you before you intercept her and give her the rubs and praises before you take the dummy, while she's still holding it. That's what I'd do anyway.
