  1. How would we go to getting one of them tried n tested stag hound types sent over then ? It would cost a fortune. A member on here has one, mostly deerhound with a touch of english bull. It's been trained and used for pig only. Get it over a fast type fen coursing bitch and you might be onto something. I can't remember his name but I think he posted in one of the more recent deerhound threads.
  2. Someone sell the lass a few whole rabbits to feed to her staffies FFS. She isn't asking you to feed whole carcass to your dogs, she only wants to feed it to hers and you should jump at the chance to sell your catch without gutting it.
  3. Sadie, 1st cross, deerhound dog and greyhound bitch, 29 inches of muscle and guts.
  4. ....... only better! feck me, that's a nice looking hound. Best of luck with him mate.
  5. If the ban is lifted it'll be totally legal to hunt fox with lurchers (and terriers) as long as you have permission from the landowner.
  6. Poor lad didn't see the latch! Maybe he'll look for it next time.
  7. I've got a 14ah. I always put it on charge as soon as I get in the door and I've never bottomed it out yet. I use it with a variable power blitz and always keep the lamp low until the dog's running. I rarely go for more than 4 hours so I reckon for a couple of hours, 10ah should do you fine if you're careful. Then again, better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it.
  8. Get emailing, writing etc. to find out how your MP's going to vote lads. Let them know it matters to you. You can bet the antis will be.
  9. If the ban's repealed you'll have to use skis mate.
  10. Hope your enjoying walking the fells buddy ..It's maybe not for everyone but when the weather's fair its good craic ..even when its torrential rain and gales I still go haha..back off up into the Highlands of Scotland camping again real soon, change of scenery for me and the pooches..can't beat it Do you camp near a road Fuji or do you drop the car off in a village or pub or something and backpack the tent and gear into the wilds? Do you take dry food for the dog? I feed a fair bit of meat and bone but it would go smelly after a day or so. (Always looking for good ideas and I love the wil
  11. what exactly did he promise on the hunting ban,,hes no excuse now. Promised a free vote in the HoC on a full repeal of the hunting ban if he got a majority no excuses now then,,,bombard him with petitions, lol Too right Pat. Even if he does come through with a free vote the MPs still have to vote the right way so it won't be all beer and skittles.
  12. what exactly did he promise on the hunting ban,,hes no excuse now. As I remember it he promised a free vote on repealing it. That means if you want it repealed it's time for all UK hunters to start lobbying MP's on a big scale. They need to know the level of feeling on this.
  13. Fast enough for what? Short, sharp dashes after rabbits - I very much doubt it. Long runs with no cover in sight - possibly. The way I'd look at it is to ask if a straight deerhound would be fast enough. If the answer's yes then crossing to the bull might possibly still be, but I think it highly unlikely that the pups will be faster than the deerhound. It's not a cross that I'd want personally, but each to their own...just people with experience of this cross reply please. Bit touchy. Try here:- http://www.thehuntinglife.com/forums/topic/271463-deerhound-x-bull/
  14. As said above!! but I'd just like to add that it's pretty hard to keep a dog in hard work muscled up on dry bag food. If you can't find a source of meat and bones then at least try and find a butcher that'll give you leftover fat and scrap trims. When you're giving lots of roadwork or lamping, a small handfull of fat added to the food will help stop the dog getting skinny and "hat racky".
  15. There never can be a definite age. Maturity wise it depends on the breed, size and build as to when the dog will be physically mature. Work wise.... well some dogs will have done more by the end of their second working season than other "proven" working dogs will do in their lifetime. When it comes down to it it's up to the breeder, and then the pup buyers, to decide when enough has been done to ensure the pups have a good chance of staying sound and inheriting enough drive and hunting instinct. As for the kennel club, well no-one in their right mind gives a feck what they think.
  16. Dead right Dave, there's something wrong there and the lad should appeal. This magistrates ordered him to pay compensation to Hampshire police when he hasn't wronged them. It sounds like he's making the law up as he goes!!!! I'm sure a poaching fine can't be that high for one rabbit and if it can I'm glad I don't live in that police state anymore.
  17. If there was that many round your way Gaffer, they'd be cleaned out in a season. Good work lads, I know I couldn't be bothered with all that driving these days, not for a bootful of smelly bunnies anyway . I sometimes would still work after a night out but I'd want 2 or 3 hours sleep first. ive got hair Gafer, just not very much of it ,,lol Maximus ,the driving is the only part of it which is a grind, especially when you can feel your self nodding of at the wheel, really hate that bit. Had a great night and some cracking runs with summer round the corner wont be doing anything the
  18. Great stuff when you're young!! Bet you wouldn't do it now though

  20. The casing on mine was already busted up when it arrived . I like the book though and read bits again occasionally, or just look at the pictures. Some excellent photography in there.
  21. If they get their way there won't even be rabbits and rats. The proposal's for a ban on hunting all mammals with dogs.
  22. Here's what I'd advise. 1. Keep the travel sickness pills for when you have to do a long journey. 2. Take the pup for a short drive every day. Put a blanket on the passenger seat so you can watch it without crashing and choose quiet roads. Watch the pup carefully and as soon as it drools or shows any sign, stop and take it for a short walk around on a lead 'til it's fine again, then carry on 'til it looks sick again etc etc etc. With luck you'll soon be able to go 10 or 15 minutes at a time and things should keep getting better. The worst pup I had like this was a non ped whippet and she t
