How To Measure Your Dog To The Shoulder
Maximus Ferret replied to Blueboybilly's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Never seen a towel used like that before but it's a good idea as dogs that are at all submissive tend to flop all over the place as soon as you start trying to do anything like that. -
How To Measure Your Dog To The Shoulder
Maximus Ferret replied to Blueboybilly's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
If you run your hand down the dogs neck you'll feel a bump where it reaches the dogs body. That's the top of the shoulder blades and that's where you measure to, same as with a horse. To be really accurate you should put a small spirit level across and measure from the floor to the bottom of the level but exact height isn't that important. -

Don't know what it's like now but that's the kind of place you need to look for. what you need to give is a bit of time and diesel money for research. max you seem will up on the running dog font if u don't mind me asking how long does it take for a dog to get back from a trapped nerve. Any any advice well lads its going on 3"week and the vet just seem to be putting a saddle on me everytime I go. It's not something I've ever had any trouble with but I'd imagine it's different i

Is the pup one of Whin's line then Arctic? Nice looking pup, I must say.

Swap her for a Hancock dog .

Or at least let someone use him over a decent bitch. You never know what's round the corner. Keep some decent collie genes running.
-
I agree but in fairness there aren't many litters like that being bred. Does take some patience and even then there aren't always pups available. In a litter from good parents they're all spoken for pretty quickly, often among owners mates only.

Here we go, yet again TC just with bit the bullet thread been taken of was going to put it up there £350 for a pup I was disappointed when that thread was wiped. Post ban interesting threads are rare enough and a bit of bitching and squabbling can be good entertainment.

You can't really generalise about Hancock dogs as they aren't one type of dog. He keeps a lot of differently bred studs and a lot of differently bred greyhound bitches. The only person with an inkling of what a litter might produce workwise is Hancock himself or possibly Sally, who have only feedback from buyers to go on. I've had collie crosses all my life and know how variable they can be and how badly they can turn out if owned by the wrong sort of person. The only Hancock dog I've seen run is my own and she's a bit of a mixed bag.. She's a handy enough rabbiting dog but, although keen at

Out in the countryside it's only enforced if someone makes a complaint about sheep killing, dogshit, biting etc. When that happens they come door to door asking for licences. They rarely do anything else about the complaint though.... If it's sheep killing a group of farmers often get together to drive around in a van shooting any dog they see. I think it might be more rigidly enforced in the cities.

My own cat is a fantastic hunter. At this time of year he has one or two rats on the doorstep most mornings. In summer he brings the occasional rabbit. I must admit that he does catch a few birds during summertime too, mostly youngish inexperienced ones. I couldn't bell him though. I live in a street of houses where some people leave their dogs straying all day. If he was belled he wouldn't last too long. We've lost a couple of cats to dogs in the last ten years and this cat has fought off dogs a few times in the last couple of years.

Watch out !!!!! Internet bullies.

No, he's "the gafer". Bonehead, you're perfectly safe posting a pic of a 14 week old pup. Gaz puts pics of his up all the time. I'll show you mine if you show me yours.

A tip for biking more safely. I always use two leads. One is hooked to it's own handle, making a circle that goes over my shoulder. This lead is looped through the handle of the second lead which is hooked to the dog collar. Hope that makes sense. If it doesn't I can put up a photo. This leaves both hands free for steering/braking and if the dog pulls it's pulling against your whole body rather than your hand.. The only time I had trouble holding this way is when a fox jumped onto the road in front of my 29 inch, 37kilo deerhound cross.

My worst was a collie/grey/whippet bred by myself from a collie/grey dog that would try anything and a non ped whippet with dazzling speed and prey drive to burn. The bitch was 21 inches but would tackle a full grown dog fox. Her only problem was her feet which suffered on any rough ground like beet fields etc. The dog had tough feet (and everything else) so I thought to get the best of both worlds. The pup was pick of the litter and looked like she had strength as well as speed. Unfortunately she was a nervous type, afraid of her own shadow and unwilling to tackle anything more than a rabbit

How Do Dogs/ Lurchers Find Their Way Back To Us ?
Maximus Ferret replied to flipbull's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
had a we collie cross that was only ever at my mates house in tbe back of my van One day it got out its kennels and made its way to my mates house which was 4 miles away across many main roads never walked it there once A friends dog used to come to my house when my bitches were on heat, a distance of around 3 miles with the Lincoln Skegness road in between. Again he had only ever been over in a car and if my mate visited when my bitches were on heat, as soon as he got home the dog would know and would set off for mine. -

Mine do this too when they're finished a chase in the woods. At least my sons bitch and my Hancock bitch do. My deer cross bitch sometimes gives a deep sort of questioning bark and I give a toot on the acme silent to let her know the direction . She's getting better as her scenting improves. Mine seem to return to where they left me and trail it from there. -
Whatever are you on about????

Planned Deerhound X Greyhound Litter

If your bitch runs well for you would you ever breed from her Liam, maybe 4 or 5 years down the line or have you had enough of litters, messers and timewasters??? -

If price is the issue you'd be better off getting a half cross from the right blood or getting a deerhound type lurcher. If a deerhound's what you really want then you need to bite the bullet . Most people who run a car could afford it, after all, what kind of crappy old banger could you buy, tax and insure for 800 quid ?????? I'm happy enough with my half cross. She can do almost anything a pure could do and is faster and maybe a bit more agile, though at 29 inches she is nowhere near the rabbiter that my other lurcher is. She's still young yet though and I'm working on it. -

Planned Deerhound X Greyhound Litter
Maximus Ferret replied to jasrae's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Shanehound off here had some tidy looking houndsnice price too, any wonder they're on the extinction list. Feckin money ruination again It's never been cheap to buy a pure deerhound pup. I can't remember what he charged, only that it was cheaper than the going rate. I don't know Shane personally but he doesn't keep deerhounds anymore. When he got out he offered me a youngish adult dog, 30 inches at the shoulder, for a couple of hundred to a good home. I turned it down as I didn't need anymore dogs. I hear it's doing well with it's new owner. If you want a purebred pup I can't see you -
