  1. http://www.thehuntinglife.com/forums/topic/363084-lad/page-3 Thanks John. Took me a while to find it!
  2. Sounds handy. Can you stick a picture up John. Chickenman and GVC too if you see this. I liked the thinking behind that litter and would like to see how they turn out.
  3. A bit of fat helps them keep weight on as they can burn it for energy. If they don't get enough they will burn protein instead and that won't help with muscle bulk either.
  4. Get some fatty scraps from the butcher. Should cost nothing and you can add a handful to his food each day. Dried foods rarely have enough fat for an active running dog. Personally I feed only raw meat and bone. My daughters whippet does great on this but you need a freezer to do it.
  5. I'm the same. Spend a fortune on black sunflower and I get allsorts of small birds. Last year the winter siskins stayed on to breed and then brought their young round for it.
  6. Never understood these type of sanctions/hunting act, are they supposed to be a benefit to wildlife or conservation or what, and if so how ? I know what you mean. I used to live between Wragby and Baumber (Lincs) before the ban and because of the North Lincs Coursing Club the farmers tolerated a good population of hares on their land. Since the ban there is no longer any incentive to do so. Even members of the LACS sometimes come to realise this and get kicked out as a consequence. Below is from wikipedia:- In the late 1980s, League Executive Director Richard Course was fired from the L
  7. Interesting but I'm not sure what to make of it. Over 170 views, no-one got any opinions?
  8. How do I go about getting onto moochers When you have killed Dragons and slain beasts bare handed .........you will be sent for .When the great Whin and mark need new blood you can be sure you will be summoned Are they the puppet masters? Haha They wish.
  9. nice big dog , spot on for what he was bred for i think i asked you before Dan , do most stags have apbt in there make up, i know you said the stags are very old lines , and they might have years gone by , just wondered if they still use a drop of pit today in the newer stuff thats bred . or do the stag lines you breed are very true , and you dont have to out x at all . glad your posting/ pics keep them coming . That dog there's grand dam on his dams side was 1/16th bulldog I believe. So that would make him 1/32 bulldog. Don't hold me to that but I'm almost posit

  11. The land you walk over is NOT a muddy field MF. More like a 'blitzkrieg' zone! Lol I'm only on that land some of the time. I lamp a lot of dairy/beef land too. The rough stuff's do-able daylight, dawn and dusk but I'd be wary of it in the dark.
  12. Yowch!!! that's all we fecn' need now I wonder if many garda would walk over a muddy field in the dark????
  13. Not sure how well these work but bear in mind they'll only work where you can get a phone signal. Personally I always switch my phone off when I go far with the hounds.
  14. The light brindle is a deerhound/greyhound first cross and the dark brindle is a mix of border and bearded collie with greyhound. The collie cross is quite small at 24 inches but she has a half decent nose and in the woods she surprisingly often seems to head game back towards me. Could be coincidence but it does happen. I haven't many photos as I've only a small pocket camera and don't take it very often. Most of these are old.
  15. Must be useful to be able to breed from dogs tested on that stuff. My own two run some rough mountain and forest ground some of the time and cut toes, pads, and stoppers are a common occurrence. [/ URL]
  16. On the upside they can't half jump!!! Like deer in fact. Mines also quite bright and trainable too and with the huge stride can cope with most terrain.
  17. Good few off that line don't fail though I had one sold it doing my lc at the time went to Wicklow and made the grade single handed Wicklow area would be a good place to work that type of dog .
  18. I like my bitch and she's turned out good for what I need but I wouldn't advise a straight deer/grey cross for most people. Reading through all the past threads about them on here it seems like a lot have had poor and indifferent dogs of that breeding for whatever reason. Even when there were well worked strains of deerhound about this cross still needed careful entering to avoid discouragement then plenty of work as their enthusiasm built up. I've heard of plenty quitting on fox after being bitten the first time. I've also heard of plenty taking foxes and doing well on deer and hare ( before
  19. She's a Hancock bred border/beardie/grey.
  20. If there's barbed wire around a dog's going to get hurt sooner or later anyway. I teach all mine to jump but one of the worst rips I've had was on a bitch who broke two strands of rusty barbed wire when close behind a hare ( back in the 80's). She broke the top one with her face and the botton one with her shoulders and chest and caught the hare. Took a bit of stitching .
  21. The line is pretty much gone. There are still dogs around with Doxhope ancestors but once they are more than a generation away they are no longer producing that exact type of hound. My own deer/grey bitch carries Doxhope blood but I wouldn't call her a Doxhope type or line. Bred by Alan Charles in Westmeath.
  22. This one's from an Irish breeder. Contact details here.... https://www.google.ie/webhp?sourceid=chrome-instant&ion=1&espv=2&ie=UTF-8#q=alan%20charles%20westmeath

  24. I have one of these https://www.amazon.co.uk/d/Compasses/Suunto-SS004102011-Clipper-L-B-Compass/B00PD9NYZG/ref=sr_1_2?s=sports&ie=UTF8&qid=1484670531&sr=1-2&keywords=compass+suunto+clipper clipped permanently on my watchstrap and a silva compass for maps in my backpack. The watchstrap one is surprisingly useful and you don't forget it if you always wear a watch. It'll keep you in roughly the right direction inside woods and other places where you cant see far. I originally bought it for long swims to shore in rough seas so I didn't have to keep sticking my head up to see if I
