  1. I agree Gem. But the lost terrier deserves respect as well.
  2. Where is the stats to say more folk are getting into it than leaving? I'm not sure that's right!!I'd have said that lack of game could be down to increase in BOP, different farming methods and weather to be honest. Come on mate. . . . . . Folk leave for a number of reasons. . . . . but aside from the flash in the pan hunters for who it is just a phase. . . . . think about all of the genuine hunters. . . . they guys who stay the course. Every year more folk come of the age where they can get out and do it, then come of the age that they no longer can. That's what I meant. S
  3. It's a tough one mate. And this is just me 'thinking out loud'. But you need quite a lot of land and quite a lot of game to really test yourself and your charges, and to be able to hunt properly over a season. With young lads coming into the game. Where do they find permission? Most of it is already sown up, and unless the folk do something really daft, die or retire from the game. . . . that land isnt coming up for grabs any time soon. The numbers of 'hunters' way way way exceed the number of farms and estates around. SO its just not physically possible for everyone who wants it, to have enou

  7. Too many 'hunters' (used in the broadest sense at times), not enough land. Every year there are a lot more folk getting into it than there are folk getting out. The numbers of game seem to be falling. And they are not going to make any more land any time soon. So what is the future of it all . . . . is there one? Or eventually are the just going to be 1000's of people all trying to hit the same few spots . . . until they are gone as well?
  8. I don't eat wheat and I don't drink milk. It's shite. Recently I have really been looking into the whole wheat thing . . . . . and man is it bad for you!
  9. If I had a kid and they came home with some one and that person made them really happy . . . . . then i'd be happy.
  10. If that's directed at me ,I've given my reasons for shooting rabbits during the summer. I don't hunt with the my dogs during this time of year ,and wont start again until late Sept / October. No mate, not directed at you (don't be so paranoid!). There are some folk on here who are either professional pest controllers or get pest control jobs that come in over summer. What I was referring to was the guys who go out and ferret 3 bunnys or shoot 1 hare with an air gun in a week and claim that they were doing much needed pest control on a farm. It just seems that when the summ
  11. It's just amazing how many 'pest controllers' are on here . . . . when the summer comes around
  12. Maybe try swimming with her? Mad as it sounds.
  13. Different hares, different land, different approaches. . . . . who knows. Very impressive if any dog can catch over ten good hares, on fair runs on decent land. Out of interest, any idea how many runs he had? KR - I wasn't aware that Jims ern did over 100 in a night?
  14. Well. . . . it IS probably the beginnings of society. Man realized that a lone he could not over come more powerful beasts . . . . but if he joined together with others he could.
  15. Looks like a nice walk Andy, and you really are getting good with that camera now. The dogs are looking well . . . . . but I wouldn't really expect any less, with the miles you put in. Keep em coming!
  16. That part of the world mate . . . . there are certainly plenty of foxes!
  17. why not? ive got a relatively small beddy whippet bitch 17tts, she hunts like a beddy but is built like a whippet, and she has caught loads of bolted rabbits on long courses upt dales, on some terrible ground and has never even knocked up a toe. i think her light weight means she gets no injuries. she is a great fun dog, the amount of times me and my pals have gone "oooohhh" and "ahhhhh" when she has grabbed hold of a bunny after a long course on limestone she is tough as old boots, and as sommeone pointed out to me, would a full whippet have the coat or skin to manage all day in the h
  18. I know mate, sorry that wasn't really aimed at you, just following on from what you are saying. I know where those dogs are running as do a few others here, and they make it look like there are a fair number of foxes about and if you go for a mooch you should knock a couple out. In reality it's not like that at all. Without the right kind of dog/s you could be out on those hills everyday and never see one.
  19. Is that the raspberry ripple pattern?
  20. To be honest, i've always found it a fox 'hunting' dvd. . . . .whereas something like wrecking crew is a fox 'killing' dvd. Whilst both make a good enough watch. . . . . I get tired fairly quick of watching a quick dash across a flat field in the lamp and a kill, over and again. Whereas i could watch those dogs work those hills for a fair old while. Most of the good killing dogs you see about would never find charlie up there in the first place. I think a lot of folk under estimate what the dogs in the DVD do, because they have never hunted that kind of land in that kind of way, and have m
  21. Mobile phones, digital cameras, facebook, forums. . . . . . . . . all very bad news . . . . . .especially if you are thick as shit. Saw a facebook group recently where a lad was stood posing between two bull x's, caption was, one on left is a great bambi dog, one on right is 'grunter' mad (complete with face well marked up). Of course, the picture was linked to his profile, with his full name, address etc. But then he called them bambis and grunters. . . . . . . . that's bound to throw them off. . . . .
  22. I have a decent poley hob here.
  23. How many have you got pal? And do you own the bitch and dog?
