  1. Maybe something like this. http://i1143.photobucket.com/albums/n623/Ideation123/Facebook/Wander%20in%20the%20sun%20with%20Young%20Tom/536146_146418852200118_1746132365_n.jpg
  2. Having recently been titting about with hounds. I think if what you are thinking is making a little gun pack type thing. Then i'd go for some hound x's. Some smaller dogs. More controllable, better for pushing covers to guns. Also cheaper to feed etc.
  3. Excellent looking hound. And a good name to
  4. I find the quad excellent for fitness training. Can run the dog behind it just trotting about for hours around the place, at a slow pace, starting and stopping as i'm working. Or give him a concentrated work out at a fast speed for several mins at a time with breaks.
  5. That grey bitch of Johnnyboys is probably the best ferreting dog I have seen. A proper ferreting companion.
  6. Aye we have a milk man. We live in the sticks and he calls by in the early hours in his truck.
  7. I guess because they found out she was allergic to dogs they decided to shave it bald?
  8. does the whippet do ok in the wet and cold?I done some survival training late last year and one of the lads on the course brought his lurcher and it didn't like the cold at all, ended up sleeping in the car on the last night. He's no massive fan in general, unless we are hunting. But he will stand it all day if he needs to. But i also think with all of the people gone, he would be fine, finding places to lie up when it was too bad. He's a smart animal, when it comes to sorting himself out
  9. Mine would be ok, they'd just go from bin to bin On a serious note, I think the hound would be hard pressed. She would do a lot of chasing, and not much catching, and would need to rely on carrion. If the whippet could get over the heartbreak of losing my radiant company, he would survive just fine, I have no doubt. He is a a thief, never stops hunting and will eat anything.
  10. I was just reading a thread in the ferreting section, and some one mentioned that accurate marking was very important in a ferreting dog and many decent dogs were let down by the lack of it. Now. . . . I totally agree on it's importance. But as of yet, I have not come across a dog that hunts with us that has not ended up being a good marker. Including - Whippet. Bull x. Collie x. Beddy x. GSD x. Hound. Terriers. So my question is.. . . . . has anyone seen / had a dog that just would not or could not mark stuff to ground accurately, that was given opportunity?
  11. I think I've said on here before, I'll be driving long with the kids in the car at night out in the lanes and start telling them the hairy hand story.... then the car starts juddering, the lights go off and the hand go's back and grabs one of them.... as soon as the lights are off there's bedlam in the car, with the kids screaming Nothing like responsible parenting Can't be too responsible it would be boring lol..

  13. As 3turns said, it's a game of percentages. A well bred litter should have a higher percentage of pups that will make good dogs, than a litter bred off to shit dogs. But two very good parents can produce shit pups, sometimes an entire litter. The blood just doesnt marry right. And two shit dogs can throw good pups, even a good number, perhaps throwing back to previous dogs in the line that were good. Genetics are a funny thing. BUT. It's logical to try to stack the odds in your favour by both getting a well bred pup and putting a lot of time into training it. Also i
  14. My worst is probably turning the headlights off on my car when im driving at night. I get a sudden compulsion to do it when i'm on a quiet country lane and have to stop myself. And sometimes I can't.
  15. If in doubt, get a collie x, a whippet, a bull/beddy x, another collie x and a hound. . . . . . . seems to cover all the bases for us
  16. I've seen a lot of dogs out ferreting, and i've seen good ones from a wide range of x's and types (pure collies, spaniels etc). But the very best I have seen have been collie blooded dogs. Perhaps just by chance. But maybe not.
  17. Aye you are right mate. But you need a shit ton of land and game to really slake a thirst for it
  18. From what I have seen on here. . . . . would i invite all of the irish coursing lot onto my land stacked with hares????? WOULD I f**k!
  19. Apparently the definition of a Scottish homosexual. Is a man more interested in women than drinking and fighting. ?
  20. Like most geese, young ones taste better.
  21. Probably come back to breed now. If you can get as close to your as we can get to the ones that come onto our shoot ponds to breed. . . . then an air rifle will do the job. But unless they are causing bother. Why now?
  22. A grass is a grass . . . . . . That's such a play ground mentality. At the end of the day the RSPCA etc are c**ts. But it's cases like this they SHOULD be dealing with rather than the hunting stuff. Not everyone is willing to break the law, by entering someones property and removing animals etc, or resorting to violence (if things get 'tasty'). So in that case are they meant to just stand aside and let it go on. . . . for fear of being 'a grass'. If someone knew their neighbor battered their wife and kids regular, but was too weak or not in a position to intervene themselves .
  23. Just to say, I hope folk realize I just started this topic cos i'm home alone and bored shitless Good debate / chat usually does the job.
