  1. As has been said before it's all about picking good working lines for the type of dog that suits what you want to do and the land you want to do it on and then putting in the time and effort from when it's a pup to achieve a bond with it and to teach it the task you want it to perform. I know people do buy good adult dogs and do have a lot of success with them, but personally i would never buy anything older than about 8 weeks, by the time it gets out hunting i want that dog to worship me and hunt with me and for me. Remember all we are doing is making a pack (we're the leader) and for a p
  2. Can't remember exact age - but about 3/4 years old - Dad took me into the fields around our house one evening and i shot a rabbit with his 12g. I remember Dad having to kneel down and balance the shotgun on his shoulder and hold it tight with his hand cos i couldn't pick the gun up on my own or hold it steady. I remember the rabbit doing a backflip and lying still - i'd hit it in the head! Off i scampered across the field and dragged my first kill back. He made me carry the rabbit all the way home - showed me how to skin and clean it and then cooked it for my tea! I've been hooked on hunting e
  3. Aye, i figured that might be the answer!
  4. Took the girlfriend out today and let her set her first wires - it'll be interesting to see what's to collect in the morning. Was thinking while i was out that i'm needing to replace a few and could do with a few extras! So the question is - who wants to sell me about 20-25 quality snares (not 8 or 10 strand) with tealers and pegs? Cheers!!!! Jai P.s - i'll get some pics up tomorrow of the missus first try with the wires!
  5. Too true matey! Still using hemp nets tho!
  6. Buying a new rifle next month, think i've finally decided on a BSA R-10, unless anyone has a better suggestion? Thing is now trying to decide which scope? Cheers, Jai.
  7. I'm also looking for a whippet or whippet x pup for about march - any one breeding any good working lines?
  8. Thanks for the advice mate! I think i'm gonna get an R10 when i next get payed :-) Any suggestions on scopes? I watched some of your vids - some cracking shots mate!
  9. Ferret1 - i'm 39 miles away mate. Just Pm'd you!
  10. Cheers for the suggestions so far guys - keep them coming!
  11. Hey, Recently come into a fairly large bit of land to hunt, but thing is on this particular piece i'm only allowed to use an air rifle. Been using a Webley with Simmons scope that i've had for years an it's seen ALOT of service. The new hunting ground justifies a new gun (what an excuse!) and i was hoping for some suggestions on which make/model - i'm looking for very good accuracy and stopping power. I've been looking at the BSA R-10 A new site might be nice and all - any thoughts? Peace, Jai.
  12. Cheers mate - much appreciated! I'll give him a shout!
  13. The French dude your talking about was Dr Armand Delille, who in June 1952 released mixy on his estate outside Paris. By 1956 90 percent of europes mainland rabbit population was dead. Delille got the strain of the virus from Switzerland. The virus was first isolated by an Italian bacteriologist called Giuseppe Sanarelli in 1898 and is from south american bunnies. Mixy is SHIT.
  14. Hey All! I'm looking to get hold of Mike Brown to have a chat with him about his dogs, but can't seem to find a website or anything! Any help would be greatly appreciated! Hope everyones had a good Christmas day - i got up and went for a walk with the gun before lunch. Two pheasants and a bunny, but it would have been nicer with a dog. Lesson learnt! Jai.
  15. Cheers matey! I'll drop a post in the lurcher section. Yer i'm looking forward to getting hold of a pup, was out shooting in the snow over the last few days and it would have been perfect without the gun ;-)
  16. Hey, I've just joined the forum - nice to meet you! Hunted all my life so far (only 25), mainly with ferrets, spaniels, and my wee jack russel but shoot alot as well and go out with other peoples lurchers and hawks from time to time. I'm looking to get hold of Mike Brown to have a chat with him about his dogs, but can't seem to find a website or anything! Any help would be greatly appreciated! I'm also looking for a new ferret kit, jill or hob, color not important but albinos/sandy best as i ferret in a lot of deep cover. Must come from proven working lines. Know its not likely till sp
